"Noisy Housekeeping Service"
This is a great hotel, very clean and well run. Our only complaint is the housekeeping staff lets the doors slam while they are cleaning rooms in the morning. We must have heard them at least 100 times in the AM before checking out, very annoying.Avis véridique Hotels.com

"Friendliest Staff Around"
Loved the location and the room. Overall, the hotel was very clean as was our room. Staff was very helpful with our finding a local restaurant for dinner. The pool here stayed open later than most hotels allowing our daughter to get in a quick swim following our night out on the town. Room was quite nice with updated furnishings...the bathroom, although […] very small, was clean and well-stocked with Bath-N-Body Works toiletries. Beds were a little soft for our liking, but not uncomfortable. Breakfast in the hotel dining room was quite tasty and portions were more than satisfying. Both check-in and check out were speedy transactions. The only negative with our stay was that there was some confusion between hotels.com and the hotel because they both billed my debit card. I called hotels.com and they, in turn, called the hotel to handle the reimbursement...I should have the credit in 1-2 business days. We would stay at this hotel again. My son and I met there as it is half way for each of us. We were greeted nicely and loved our room on the 5th floor right off the elevator. We really were happy to experience the pool. It was warm, clean, & quiet. We decided to eat in the restaurant at the hotel as the weather was rainy and we had been given coupons for 2 free drinks. The restaurant […] was very quiet, which was good, but the server wasn't very...welcoming. She said there were no specials even though the signage said to ask about them. "It's just there to get people to come in. The menu was limited, and when my Chicken Marsala arrived I was surprised to see that the chicken was fried. The rooms were fine, would like to have refridgerators in the to save some of the exquisit food from the hotel's kitchen. Have stayed at this motel twice and both times the kitchen's menu and food service is among the best! I would definitely recommend this hotel. Our five year old loved the pool. Ok, you come here because you want to save some bucks but ... You are not downtown (20-30mins walk), hotel interiors are old and with one crappy elevator to be shared with maids most of the time ... HI portsmouth was our choice of hotels for our girls shopping trip. We wanted to be close to downtown and the outlets in kittery, and this was a perfect location! The room was spotless, the bathroom and shower were also great. Service and food in the restaurant exceeded our expectations of 'hotel food' and the lounge at night is a great place to relax. WE BOOKED AN EXPEDIA SPECIAL SO I DIDN'T KNOW WHICH HOTEL IN PORTSMOUTH IT WOULD BE. UNTIL BOOKED. WE WERE ON THE 6TH FLOOR HOWEVER THE ELEVATOR ONLY WENT UP TO THE 5TH FLOOR. WE HAD TO WALK DOWN A VERY LONG HALLWAY AND THEN UP A FULL FLIGHT OF STAIRS, THE STAFF DID OFFER TO HELP WITH LUGGAGE HOWEVER. THE CARPETED STAIRS SMELLED STRONGLY OF URINE. We travel quite a bit and appreciate being able to enjoy a light breakfast before leaving the hotel. Muffins and coffee in the lounge would have been nice. The stairway right next to our room led to a dumpster at ground level and we could not access the lobby floor. There was no notice on the door leading to the stairs. It was clean and at a good location so it served its purpose. Overall thought the price was too high for a holiday inn. Rooms are a bit noisy. We could hear our neighbors talking very clearly .....but it was only for about 10 minutes then they left. So it wasn't really an issue after that. There is an indoor pool. However, it's located right in the […] parking lot and lights are turned on at night. So there isn't much privacy if you care. They do provide breakfast. "KEY TO WRONG ROOM WALKED IN ON COUPLE"
DREADFUL EXPERIENCE!!!!! We were given the key to the WRONG ROOM and walked in on another couple. They were just as upset with this hotel, The HOLIDAY INN in Portsmouth, NH, as we were. The receptionist should have handled the situation much differently...she barely apologized. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Hotel is very clean. Rooms were adequate but bathroom was on the small side. Pool was nice, but located in an odd place (felt like we were in the parking lot) as though it was added after the fact. Little things such as a mini refrigerator and chairs for the table would have been appreciated. […] Also we were missing a luggage rack in one of the rooms. We arrived early and asked if we could check in. Our rooms (two adjoining) were not ready but the front desk staff said they would call us when they were (this was a nice touch). When we arrived back after being told the rooms were ready, we found that only one room was ready. Had to wait an additional hour for the second room to be cleaned (which was also one hour past check-in time). Of all the places our family has stayed, this probably wouldn't be one of the top ones. "Over charged for disappointment"
The Hotel staff were very nice & professional. However we were disappointed with the size of the bathroom, I thought that it was much to small. I could also say the same for the beds. The elevator, only one for the size & capacity of the Hotel. We were forced to use the stairs most of the time & because I have a disability, it made movement difficult. […] The pool, as well to small for the size of the hotel & because it is an indoor pool it creates an echo that we found painful & annoying. It is not monitored by the hotel. There were to many children yelling and screaming that made us leave the pool area without even getting into the pool. It's right off the highway, just a stone's throw from historic area and price is much cheaper with free parking. Hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. Was a little disappointed the treadmill wasn't working when I wanted to use it and there was no hot tub at the pool. Also, the fact that there is only one elevator was annoying. There is no other elevator for the cleaning staff so I found I had to wait A LOT. Our room was on the complete other end of the hall […] from the elevator. This said, I wouldn't have noticed this at all if we had stayed just the night.
