la description de l'hôtel et le prix étaient attrayant la réalité est tout autre cet hôtel est la grosse déception de ce voyage en Californie la situation : dramatique situé dans un quartier dangereux avec nombre de toxicomane le premier soir ma femme portait son sac a main en bandoulière nous avons été suivis par un toxico qui en voulait a son sac […] et notre présence a mon fils et moi 3.60metres et 170 kilos a nous deux ne lui a pas fait peur le dimanche a 10H du matin bagarre au couteau devant la porte de l'hôtel entre une dizaine de SDF L'hôtel : hors d'age si ces termes sont flatteurs concernant un cognac il s'agit ici de qualifier la literie (a remplacer) l'isolation (inexistante) l'acoustique (on entends les discutions de l'autre coté de la rue) cet hôtel est vraiment a déconseiller de plus le parking est le plus cher du voyage peu être est ce la prime de risque pour les gardiens qui justifie le tarif Lisez la suite

Correct pour le prix, mais les chambres petites et certaines nuits, on entend de la musique depuisla rue ou court intérieure. pas très bien isolé du bruit et du froid (mi-septembre)

L'hotel est un peu vieillot mais le rapport qualité prix est quand même interessant! Le personnel a été accueillant; seul inconvénient pour le wifi; il ne fonctionne pas bien donc il vaut mieux ne pas trop y compter dessus.

Hôtel moyen, pour un prix moyen. Il est fonctionnel. Extrêmement bruillant 1/5 sur ce critère. Une forte odeur se dégage des moquettes de la chambre. Je ne déconseille pas cet endroit mais pensez aux bouchons à oreilles.

Accueil froid à l'enregistrement. Pas très loin du centre ville à pied. Places de parking dans la rue, sinon parking payant de l'hotel (21$/jour). Pas mal de sans-abris aux alentour, mais quartier tranquille, même en soirée. Pas de déjeuné à l'hotel, mais commerces (cafés, restaurants, épicerie) à proximité. c'est vrai, l'hôtel est situé en face d'un peep-show, de nombreux SDF passent leurs nuits sur les trottoirs, mais il est très bien placé pour quelqu'un qui veut visiter SF en bus. Même à minuit et avec des enfants de 10-13 ans, on n'a jamais senti aucune agressivité dans la rue. Attention, il n'y a pas de parking proche de l'hôtel... et aucune possibilité […] d'y prendre son petit déjeuner. En revanche, l'hôtel est situé près de nombreux restaurants, épiceries et autres... Bon dans l'ensemble mais acoustique nulle tant pour les bruits exterieurs qu'interieurs. Sinon assez spacieux et confortable. Accueil assez froid. Bien placé et bien desservi par le bus MUNI

Hotel dans la Geary street, pas loin du centre. Beaucoup de clochards qui ne sont pas agressifs mais c'est tout de même un drôle d'accueil la nuit. L'hotel est assez propre, en revanche l'accueil est décevant. Bon rapport qualité prix cependant si on veut être dans le centre

Hotel proche du centre ville. Quartier tres frequente par les sans abris jour et nuit mais pas insecurisant. Café en libre service toute la journée. Seul bémol, personnel froid, limite antipathique.

Hotel sympa, bien situé, à quelques minutes du centre à pied; grande belle chambre avec dressing pratique pour les valises ; direction soucieuse de défendre l'environnement, ne change les draps tous les jours que sur demande ; mais petit bémol l'accueil est un peu impersonnel.

The best is the location of this hotel. I recommend.

No frills, no bathroom amenities, hardly any heat, no working phone, However, it was quiet and we had use of street parking and the bed was sleep-able.

We needed to stay on the cheap and this was the only hotel in the city that offered affordable rates without being too scary. It's a very old building that would be beautiful with a remodel, but then I'm sure it wouldn't be affordable! The room was clean, but there aren't too many extra comforts. There is no a/c in the room, and just an old wall heater. […] Most of the electrical outlets didn't work, or were too stretched out to hold the prongs of our appliances. Neighborhood outside is a little sketchy, but we walked to and from the hotel at night without any problems. It's within walking distance of lots of bars/restaurants, which is nice. Lisez la suite

Hotel is on the edge of the Tenderloin, very rough neighborhood. Loud at night - sirens, street fights, traffic right outside the window. Cleanliness is OK, but it's very old. Found one bedbug on the wall next to the bed, staff didn't seem overly concerned or speak English very well. But fine for a few nights, close to everything.

If you are looking for a ship hotel relatively close to union square this is a good option. We just wanted to have a place where to take a shower and sleep and this was a perfect place.

I spent 5 days/4 nights in SF to take a mini-vacation, but didn't want to splurge so much on hotel expenses. At the same time, I wanted to be in the heart of Downtown, despite knowing that most (if not, all) hotels located in the Tenderloin/Union Square vicinities of San Francisco were, in fact, going to be pricey. I came across a listing for the Monarch […] through Hotels.com that was around the price I was budgeting to spend on a hotel. Front desk was accommodating and the room itself was adequately promising for what I paid for. Housekeeping was consistent in providing daily upkeep, as well as fresh towels every day. The hotel overall was quiet w/ no disturbances whatsoever. I would definitely consider staying at The Monarch again, as well as recommend it to friends/family who plan to visit SF in the future. Overall is OK. The front desk clerk could be a little more friendlier. The wi-fi service is horrible. I have to ask the clerk to re-set the router many times during my stay.

I do not think you could get any better for the price. Hotel in general was average for star rating.

WiFi was absolutely bad in the room. I had to access WiFi in the lobby.

the Monarch was an excellent value. Geary St to the east was rough but VanNess is immediately west (and "Mels" a great spot to eat next door). We like to buy the seven day bus pass (covers all cable cars and busses, but not Bart) and were able to get all over town readily from this central location. The funds we saved staying at this safe clean cozy […] hotel cover our airfare for our next trip. Usually I stay down on the Wharf...but with the buses running between the Wharf and both Van Ness and Polk, we were able to get wherever we needed (Golden Gate Park, Castro) easily. Lisez la suite

I stayed for three nights at the Monarch. The lobby is nice, with some decent stone and comfy furniture. The elevator is old school; a little slow but has charm. This hotel was significantly less expensive than similar hotels in the area, and was in the location I needed to be. I read the reviews, and yes, there are homeless that hang out across from […] the hotel's front door. Don't walk down Geary at night alone if you are female, as it may be unsafe. However, the hotel itself is very safe, and the room was fine for what I needed. The bed was comfy, but the pillows were flat. The bathroom was clean and the shower had decent pressure. The woman at the front desk gave me an entire box of tissues when I asked for a few for my trip... very kind! Lisez la suite

This hotel was very inexpensive and that makes sense given that the neighborhood is a bit dicey. It's a much older establishment, so don't expect frills. I got stuck in the elevator and the staff on duty did not seem at all surprised.

Scary, rickety elevator; front desk staff more interested in texting on his cell phone than helping me. Wouldn't stay there again.

Clean rooms, comfortable bed. Walk-in closet was twice the size of the bathroom?! With 2 exceptions, the staff was inattentive and without welcome or hospitality. I understood beforehand I would be in the Tenderloin, so the neigherbood was grubby and sad. All in all, fine for a place to crash but no warm fuzzies.

Bottom line: If you just need a cheap hotel to rest near SF area, it is a good choice. Pros: Room is clean, didn't experiences any problems during the dates that I stayed; lounge looks nice; walking distance to Japan town (if you care); only seven blocks to downtown area (if you don't mind walking); Cons: Staff is kinda lazy, so don't expect too much […] customer service; Neighborhood is the worst neighborhood in SF (according to one of my friends lives in SF); try not to book your shuttle with this hotel because they might over charge you; Heard a lot of other people compliant about their heaters and cars parking and etc while I stay; Lisez la suite

I'd call it a dive. Way too much money for this sort of a place.

Check in was quick and easy, room was clean, bed was comfortable (just passed out around 5 after concert), helpful people, would come here again.

I have to admit, not the best amenities, but was certainly the least expensive I found for the area. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcomed.

Horrible neighborhood, particularly at night. Rooms are extremely small, and although was promised a Queen bed we had a full. No shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom and only 1 towel.

Came to SF for Nike womens marathon. There were us 3 girls staying and we ended up with only one bed because I booked late. Even though we all had to share the bed was actually comfortable and we all slept good. We ran late getting back from the race and the hotel gave us a check out reminder which was nice. If you want hot water on the 6th floor maybe you should move down a couple floor. Power outlets, if you can find one that works your lucky. The beds, I think the sidewalk would be softer, and the pillows are pancake thin. Now the good part, the hotel staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful.

The hotel should be renovated and than the quailty will improve. The staff was great. The carpet and floor overall need to be replaced and the smoking rooms need to be closed down. We had to stay in a smoking room because we arrived early the windows would not open so the stink in the room was just sitting in the room. So please make the hotel a non- […] smoking hotel. The night desk clerk was brusque and unfriendly. The bathroom sink was loose from the wall and looked like it might fall right off. The bed was ghastly—hard and lumpy—and the pillows were somehow thin, lumpy and hard all at once. The comforter was unpleasant polyester and had several holes burned through it. The bottom sheet was not fitted, which is […] not necessarily a minus, but in this case it continually came untucked and it and the mattress pad would bunch up underneath me. Location: The neighborhood has some great places to eat and is well served by a number of bus lines. The hotel seemed to be located across the street from a homeless shelter. This hotel could definitely use an upgrade, but then it would probably no longer be affordable. On the other hand, it is clean and well-located, so that's the trade-off.
