There was absolutely no hot water not even luke warm. When we checked out i mentioned that, the lady said ohh sorry. No compensation, nothing! Very rude!

I loved it everyone was friendly! Comfortable bed too.

Almost cancelled due to many not so good reviews. Glad I stayed! The location and price were both great. The striking workers were a non issue, my room was comfortable and clean, the lounge was a nice hangout between other stops. Yes it's an older historical hotel, but well kept I thought. Would definitely stay there again!

Stayed 5 nights for business, 10th floor room was spacious, clean, and adequately equipped. Some traffic noise from the street did reach the room, but didn´t bother me. Perfect location in the city center, right next to the huge Millenium park and lake front so you could pop out for a nice walk whenever you had half an hour to spare. The State street […] just few blocks west offered ample shopping possibilities, with a less touristic vibe than the uptown Magnificent mile. Also theaters and restaurants plenty nearby. Not very friendly. The maintenance guy was great at helping us get the tv on. It was the end of April when we stayed (40 degrees outside) & they had already turned the heat off -they sent up a portable heater. Rooms were somewhat clean. Very expensive for what you get.

The concierges were A++. Ask for Jose, he can help you find anything!! It is on Michigan ave., so location is perfect! Walking distance to Art Institute, mellenium park & I even walked along Lake Shore Dr to the Navy Pier. Restaurants close & even a couple in the hotel. My only issues were the ladies that helped check in were not the friendliest. Also, […] the single room I was promised on hotels.com turned out to be 1single queen instead of one of the two options given when I booked(two queens or one king). The bathroom was tiny & left much to be desired,The light bulb hung from a hole cut in the ceiling. Normally some sort of plate would cover the hole, I assume. The shower curtain looked pretty cheap & flimsy. The room as a whole was pretty small, but for the location, I guess I understand the pricing. very very enjoyable

Very old building, old rooms and fixtures, need major overhaul. On a daily basis there were picketers at the front door . We were told that this place had picketers for many years. The only good thing about this hotel is its location. It deserves only 2 stars.

Although other parts of the hotel have been renovated our room was very clearly in a part of the building that had not been updated in a long time. It was clean but very worn and shabby.

Pluses: Outstanding premises, great value for money, clean room with great service, great amenities, fantastic location, close to jackson Blue line train station for travel from O'hare, super fast elevators! Great lobby. Minuses: No wireless in rooms, a little bit rundown or gloomy feeling inside (can't explain why despite great pluses),

the hotel is quaint/dramatic/old, the restaraunts nearby delicious, and the 'official' hotel parking is expensive.

This is a quaint hotel with modern amenities. I liked the historical feel of the hotel, and the service was excellent. The restaurant was convenient and the food was very good. Having Grant Park right across the street was a plus as the trees and plants were in bloom and offered a breath-taking view every morning. The best thing about this hotel is the location. I did not have any problems on getting buses, cta trains or others. Everything was perfect. I only think that a hotel with such dimension and good rates should not be charging so high price for access to the internet, since all the hotels I have been to have it for free, and are not so expensive.

Definitely a good buy for the money. My room was spotless, the staff very courteous and helpful, and the location was convenient, although several blocs from the Blue Line train station from O'Hare. Overall, a very good 3-star hotel

Overall the hotel is decent. The convience was the best feature. The hotel could use some upgrades and a litle TLC. The bathroom was in need of repair as well as the fixtures and closet. It would have been nice to have access to a microwave and mini fridge in the room. The Congress does have historic charm.

Older hotel that must have been fancy at one time. Clean and comfortable. & quite. Old and well worn, but beautiful furniture. Great value.

good value for money given its location ... given its a old building, the management can try to give it a vintage look ... the modern looking furniture were not matching with the old-styled walpapers and drapes ...

Loved it when the manager told me to run the hot water for 15 minutes and then it will turn hot...loved it. Definently paranormal activity here.

Definately would recommend, its place which is close to all the major attractions in Chicago... even you can walk down to those places. Hotel is good, room is good but 2 things - Temperature adjustment is not possible and sometime one have to wait 5 mins for hot water to come in shower... overall its good place. The Congress Plaza was a nice looking historic hotel. The service person bell hop, valet people and housing were all very accommodating. However it took over an hour to check into our room because it was not ready. The clerks were not helpful. We had to switch rooms 3 times, not fun! The heat is centrally controlled and it happened to be 75 and sunny […] in Chicago and they could not turn off the heat. We were told to open the windows which made it even hotter! We had to leave the hotel because it was so hot. I will not stay here again!! Lisez la suite

This place was like Bates Motel. It was from the scene of a horror movie. I've seen better conditions at a Grey Hound bus station.

My friends and I stayed here for a weekend and it was great. Close to EVERYTHING and they even gave us some coupons to a restaurant that was a 4 minute walk. I will stay there again when I'm back in Chicago. On the down side no wi-fi in the rooms and the landline was impossible. I recommend it highly.

There's no doubt that the Congress Plaza used to be an amazing hotel. However, a wall of smoke smacked my nose the moment I walked in the sliding doors that made it hard for me to envision the comfort of my room. Luckily, the woman that checked me in was very, very nice, I wish I still knew her name. The hotel is just fine especially for Me just to have a decent room for my stay during the ACC convention. The only problem is no free access to wi-fi service but the location of the hotel is just great.

We planned this trip to visit my hometown, to have a nice getaway for our 8-year-old son, who remembers little about living there. We stayed at the Congress April 4-6, 2012. Parking: very confusing. Costs and options vary, so please call beforehand! We opted to self-park, which is only partially true. You drive to the parking garage and an attended […] takes your car, so YOU don't actually park it. But, you get unlimited in/out priviledges. Staff: check-in was easy, and the staff was nice. But they don't always offer up pertinent info. For example, altho my room was paid in full, they need a credit card for security. I offered up my debit card. I later read that $25-$35 per night will be held, and released in 7-10 days! Also, once done, even if you offer up a credit card instead, the hold will remain on the debit card. Beware! Room: We had a room overlooking Grant Park, and had wonderful views of Lake Michigan, the Museum Campus, and Millenium Park. High above Michigan Avenue, the sun rising over the lake was breathtaking. The ceilings are high, which lends an historic feel to the hotel. However, the room itself left much to be desired. We had a double, and the size suited our needs. The furniture, made of wood, had large gashes in them. Unrepairable (and dated), they needed to be replaced. The rug was thread-bare and installed slip-shod. For example, the repeating motif is two lions facing each other with CH between them. Absolutely no one paid attention to the red border, located right in the middle of the room, which was installed backwards and the edges are frayed. That motif is repeated on the wallpaper and drapes. The decor really needs an update. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. Overall: I was torn on whether to recommend this hotel or not. I was ok with it for a short while because I really paid for the location. We spent little time in the room, as the lakefront was our playground. We were upgraded to a very nice three bed room without even requesting. Everyone was very nice and helpful at the hotel. The hotel is very old, but is in very good condition considering, and has a nice charm to it. Overall, we were very pleased with the stay we had.

Excellent location for tourists...room condition needs to improve.

Very good service and accommodations for price perfect location for tourists or former Chicagoans coming back for visit. Convenient to Metra and CTA train lines and all museums and Magnificent Mile and Parks. Quaint and old and charming. Very nice staff too.

Staff was friendly and courteous.Beds and bedding were very comfortable.Room had "old" smell and was a little dusty.Bath had some modern amenities and a VERY squeaky door which I'm sure was 100 year old originial. All in all a good stay for a couple of nights.

The hotel was in the perfect location to visit Grant Park, The Art Institute, and the museums. Our room was on the 14th floor and had a magnificent lake view. Close to restaurants and entertainment. Everything was perfect.

This hotel has perfect location. Price was reasonable.

The hotel itself is beautiful, but I was there for 3 nights and they never attended to my room after calling multiple times complaning bc i had no ac and it was 90 degrees outside! I will never stay at this hotel again! The rating on this site has overdone it by a couple of stars...

I took my to spread her dad ashes in Lake Michigan and this was the best and closest hotel. Besides the occasion my wife was very comfortable with the hotel and so was I. We definitely enjoy the bar, the drinks were made perfectly.
