"Very disappointed"
I took a vacation with my wife to Venice and decided to be at a hotel near San Marco. The hotel is old and not well kept. In addition: They promise Internet in the rooms. There was none. To get on the Internet (that wasn't working well at all) in the lobby you can get one password per room for 24 hours and they demand the slip with the password back […] to get a new one (you would imagine that if you are staying at the hotel for 5 nights they wouldn't do that) They stop using heating on 1 April because there is a law in Italy that allows that. It was freezing despite two additional blankets. When we asked about the heating they first said they would fix it, then that they had fixed it and finally that there is none. No heating in the bathroom either. Breakfast for 15 Euro per guest - barely a continental breakfast. Sitting in the lobby at 2200 to use the Internet (since there is none in the room) my wife was requested to order something or move out of the lobby to the side lobby. There was more - but that is the main experience. I do not recommend Lisez la suite
"Don't Even"
This hotel is great location, easy to find, right next to St. Mark's Square...but once you find it the front desk man was horrible, trying to put us on an inside room after we booked and paid for a canal view and was very rude - didn't even look us in the eye. The room has not been updated since the 1400s...seriously, the walls were the same material […] as the bed cover. Shower was not really a shower, half bath type - and very slippery, almost broke a leg! The windows opened - and thank goodness because at night the hotel cranked up the heater - even though it was hot outside! We burned up at night, and since we had to leave a window open, crazy sized mosquitos got in and bit my husband over 15 times. The bar did open a bottle of wine we bought from the market, but when we tried to sit on the terrace and lobby we got kicked out and told we couldn't sit there unless we ordered from the hotel bar. Breakfast was $15 euros, and after only eating croussiants and caffes for 5 days was a nice break - eggs, meats, bread, coffee, juice, cereal, milk - worth it! Good luck if you stay here, I would have chose another hotel had I known we wouldn't get much sleep here. We stayed in places in Rome, Paris, Netherland - and did not have this problem while paying this much for a hotel room. Lisez la suite
"Great location"
We had a great stay in the hotel. Excellent location, pleasant staff, nice rooms in one of the oldest buildings in Venice. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.

best locatian n near from St Mark Square.. helpful staff.. we get the room at 11 am...
"Hotel Cavalletto in Venice - great location"
Conveniently located, good service, clean - just about everything you look for in a hotel. The only drawback was that we had assumed breakfast would be included and were unpleasantly surprised to find a whopping charge for that on the first morning. But there are plenty of cafés nearby....
"Breakfast was not free"
We were charged 30 euro to our room for breakfast without being told we were being charged until the second morning. We were not happy about that at all.
"Good Location. Noisy surroundings"
Rooms facing HARD Rock CAFE are very noisy. Drunk teenagers making noise all the way upto 4 am. Toilet flush had suddenly no water. Took half a day to repair that. Centrally located.
"Best Western Hotel Cavalletto e Doge Orseolo"
This hotel was excellent all round. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the gracious and friendly hospitality of all staff and services. It overlooks al canal where gondolas sway gently throughout the night and people gather and engage in happy conversation. The description on the website is accurate and we have no hesitation in recommending it to […] everyone. Lisez la suite

"Wonderful location and great staff"
The perfect location and price for viewing this beautiful city.
"Excellent location but super thin walls."
I stayed here for 2 nights in January. The location is excellent, right next to the San Marco Square and within walking distance to everything. The service was good. The wifi connection was good and is free. No breakfast but there are restaurants everywhere. The front desk staff were very nice. The ONLY problem is that the walls are paper thin or have […] no sound proofing. You can hear EVERYTHING in the hallway, the next room as if they are sitting across from you. Bring ear plugs if you want to sleep without being woken up by people walking in the hallway, etc. You can hear everything like there is no wall. Otherwise, a good stay and great location. "Hotel Albergo Cavaletto - Venic"
The rooms was fairly basic, and due to location just near San Marc's square was very expensive. However, the location is convenient. In my opinion though, Venice is better visited in a day trip. Not really worth the overnight stay.
"Running It Out . . ."
Like most of Venice, there is no maintenance or upgrade of anything. It is a tourism hotel in a tourism-only city. So, you're going to come and leave a lot of money for a non-remodeled room at least for the last 10 years, with old bedsheets and no space for an incredible amount of money to see a museum-city that is falling apart and not being maintained. […] City population continues to decline, nobody cares as long as come an pay 100 plus euros for a gondola ride. Lisez la suite
"Best Western--Albergo Cavalletto E Doge Orseolo"
Our room was listed as standard size, or the least expensive room. Bathroom had been redone and look new, but it was very small, as was the room. Hardly any room to walk around bed. No dresser or any place with drawers to store items. Location was perfect--water taxi could take you right to door, and we were very close to San Marcos Square. Service […] was very good, and hotel had restuarant (although we did not eat there and could not rate). Lisez la suite
"Venetian"
This hotel sells itself as 4 star. I don't have the faintest idea where they got that rating. The rooms are worn and tiny although our bathroom had been recently renovated. Our friends' room was no better. Also, when was the last time you were charged $8 for a cup of tea in the lobby? Stay away.
"A gem...."
Best location, small but nice room. Would stay again but travel lighter and avoid the private taxis!......€80 each way is a little steep when the council taxi boat is only €6.50.....!!!!!
"Cavelleto e Doge: Never Again"
I cannot understand how this hotel could possibly have a four star rating. The room was ordinary, at best, too small, poorly furnished, and the bathroom was miniscule. The common rooms were shabby. The staff was very nice. I would NEVER stay there again and would strongly recommend that anyone looking for an even medium-level hotel, avoid this. If you […] want even remotely high-end, this is no place for you. Lisez la suite
"Albergo Cavalletto E Doge Orseolo - San Marco sqr"
when your spending that much on a hotel you expect a bit more effort. The cleaner didn't come till around 3pm so we were then back in the room so she couldn't do anything (we'd been out since 9) - didn't really bother us. But as I say, when it's the most expensive hotel your ever stayed in it's a shame. I asked several for an extra pillow for my wife […] as she likes 2 - eventually we got one after the fourth request. When booking I specifically asked them to acknowledge/mention/do something as it was the wife's 40th birthday - they didn't. Oh, and there was no hot water - just a warmish shower (staff couldnt care less about that when I mentioned it) Great location, with an impressive view over gondola basin- but not worth the top-wack I paid! "Hotel Albergo Cavalletto E Doge Orseolo in Venice"
A superbly located hotel rightin the heart of Venice ..under 2 minutes walk from St. Marks square. Also located on a canal so you can take a water taxi from the airport and get dropped right at the hotel. Same for return journey to airport. Arrive and leave Venice in style! This will cost about 120 Euro for up to six people over 6 people add about […] 20 euro a head. Max about 12 with luggage per taxi. The water bus is 15 euro each way or 25 return. Taxi takes 30 mins.. Water bus about 1 hour 15 mins. We did both. Water bus is ok but water taxi is very exciting and if you have a group then not much more than the bus.. Staff at hotel very pleasant especially the barman who is keen to make sure everybody is happy and comfortable with some good music and great drinks. The rooms themselves are comfortable and some have a great view over the canal. I suppose the decor to some may seem a little dated but it's comparable to other venetian hotels and all part of the charm. Not the cheapest spot to stay at but we had a fantastic time and it was great to be able to end an evening in St Marks square and then stroll 2 mins around the corner to bed! Lisez la suite
"Albergo Cavalletto E Doge Orseolo"
Great location but expensive for what it is - paid a lot for a small single room and bed not that comfortable!
"Superb location!"
The hotel is well placed right next to St Mark's Square. It's a short walk from the Vaporetto Stations and with easy access to other sights of Venice. The rooms we had were very clean and comfortable - we paid a higher rate to get the canal view and this was money well worth spending. The rooms were small but what is expected in a city centre hotel. […] the air conditioning was very welcome in the heat of the Italian summer. From our room we could see the gondoliers' station and were woken by the singing of the gondoliers as they cleaned their gondolas the next morning-it was magical. Well worth paying the little bit extra for the canal view rooms. We will go back to this wonderful hotel! Lisez la suite
"The most romantic hotel in Venice"
This was the second time we stayed in this hotel and we LOVED IT again. If you're after a romantic getaway this is the place to stay in. Make sure you book the room with the canal view. The view is just spectacular - hotel window overlooks the gondolas basin. In the morning and evening you can hear gondoliers singing and sometimes shouting at each […] other in Italian. The location couldn't be better either - it's literally behind the San Marco square. Yes, it is pricey. Yes, you could think why would I want to stay in the hotel when I'm in Venice. The think is though - you will eventually be in the hotel and these moments are priceless - trust me. Btw, awesome way to impress ;) Lisez la suite
"Not a bad place"
This hotel is located in the high end fashion district of Venice, which is great if you are there to shop, we were. But that's not the case for everyone. It's a bit far from the bus terminal where our car was parked, the hotel is close to Lido - which was a bit of a scene as the transit system was on strike. Overall a nice place, room was a bit cramped, […] but that's Venice. Lisez la suite
"This is the best alternative to Danieli"
This is the best alternative to Danieli. And so much cheaper.
"Charming"
In real estate terms, charming means small, but that's the status-quo for Venice, space is at a premium. While the room was teeny-tiny by american standards, it wasn't really that bad. The air conditioning was a welcome relief from the late June, early July heat. The shower absolutely kicked butt, it was great. The staff were really nice and the breakfast […] buffet was better than most. The entry common areas were very nice, and the location was incredible. For the price, it was really good. I would rank it a great value. When considering this place, when they say "singe room" they really mean it. The bed was a small twin. For a couple, you need a "double room". Lisez la suite

"Albergo Cavalletto in Venice, Italy"
Wonderful location within steps of St. Mark's Square. Easy to find with directions given. Room was small but adequate and clean, with nice bathroom. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.
"I found 3 pubic hairs in the bathroom.Yes, really."
Right, I'm going to try and give a balanced review here..... On the upside, the hotel location is great - just off San Marco Square. The staff are friendly and speak good English (which you shouldn't take for granted in Venice as lots of hotel/bar/restaurant staff don't.) Ok, that's all the good staff out of the way.... I could have lived with the […] fact that the room was hugely overpriced, smelled of damp and hadn't been decorated since 1982. I wasn't expecting a palace. However, the fact that there were 3 long, dark, pubic hairs in the bathroom (one in the bidet, one in the shower and worse yet, one on the mouthwash cup...needless to say I didn't use it!). I really felt cheated out of my money because I had paid a lot to stay there. I'm well travelled and I've stayed in cheap shacks in South America and South East Asia that were cleaner than this. I at least expected the hotel to be clean! Especially since I had paid such a lot of money. Personally, I wouldn't stay here again. And I would strongly urge others not to either. Aside from the awful hotel, I had a great time and would recommend Venice to anyone. We got the red eye flight in, stayed one night, and then got a late flight back the following day. Two days was plenty of time to see everything there was to see and we saved ourselves money by not staying a second night in our horrible hotel! Seriously - there have to be better hotels than this in Venice that are less money. You might need to buy a map to find them though! Lisez la suite
"Venice Best Western - Next to St. Marks Square"
This hotel was a great find in Venice. Just steps away from St. Mark's Square and a short walk from the vaporetto stop in the Grand Canal, the Best Western Albergo (Hotel) on Cavalletto St. provides a comfortable place to stay with a friendly staff. It is very convenient to several other attractions such as the Rialto bridge, and is situated on a canal […] that serves as a main meeting spot for gondoliers. Lisez la suite
"Albergo Cavaletto. Venice"
We found the staff courteous and very helpful-- they spoke English and French. The room was small, which we expected, but well appointed and very clean. Breakfast is a bit overpriced. The location is perfect. We loved our stay.
"Hotel in Venice. Good location"
This was a nice hotel however I would never stay there again as the walls were paper thin. We not only could hear the TV in the next room, we had to listen to the people scream ALL NIGHT LONG. It was horrible.
"Overpriced and old"
After reading website, I thought it was worth a try. It is definetely not a 4 star-perhaps 3 but even that is a stretch. It's tired and worn out. Wouldn't stay there again.
"Location, location, location - Albergo Cavalletto"
This hotel is about as close as you can get to Piazza San Marco without being in it. I would recommend it to anyone. Just be aware that the staff is very cold, just doing their job and nothing more.
"Decent, nice people, property condition very POOR"
The service was good, but the room was old, old, old & not functional. The room was tiny even for one bed, but ridiculous for the 3 beds they crammed in it - even by Europe standards. We weren't able to move around in the room . . . Only a couple of feet b/t the end of the beds & the wall. Comforters were extremely old & faded - I don't sleep with hotel […] comforters on the bed, but I didn't even feel comfortable sitting on or even near this one! Bathroom was tiny, not super clean in the shower, which had been retrofitted from bath only to shower, so not much room. Room was hot, no A/C on October 3rd where you would comfortably wear shorts outside. No bar or restaurant. I definitely would not recommend this hotel for anything other than the service & location. It was super close to St. Marks's square, but just so happened they were having the 1-2/year super high tides & the street b/t hotel & St. Mark's was flooded. Same reason that we had to walk from Grand Canal to hotel in evening w lots of luggage - tide too high for water taxi from airport to get under various bridges. Lisez la suite
"Hotel Cavaletto in Venice"
The location was great and super easy access to St. Mark's square. However the A/C was turned off due to cool nights but it wsa too noisy outside to leave the windows open. Kind of stuffy in the room.
"Albergo Cavalleto E Doge Orseolo - Venice"
The hotel was perfectly located. The hotel was nice, clean and I would stay there again if we were in Venice. We had 2 rooms, one for our 3 teenagers and one for us. It was quiet at night so we got a good night's sleep yet we were near the city center.

"Albergo Cavalletto E Doge /next to St Mark' Square"
This hotel was located in a great spot...we were walking distance from St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco). The hotel was clean and the rooms were a good size. The front desk staff was very polite and helpful with all of our check in needs.
"Small rooms, great location, good service"
Small rooms tend to be the rule in the areas near St Marks, but the room was fine with a good bathroom, good lighting, and fine service. Breakfast fine and reasonably priced by European standards. Some nice views of main gondola area. Hotel staff is friendly and helpful, and does not push tourist service. Instead, helps you find local restaurants and […] walks to sights. Only a block and half from the main square. Can move luggage relatively easily from the boat stop, and easy walk to bridges and all the main tourist sites. Lisez la suite
