Die Port van Cleve Hotel - Amsterdam

I will no longer go to the hotel. Hotel is 4 stars,but actually shoud be 3 stars .. Air conditioning does not work, the lift is very slow. We were with Bebb and we were looking for bed in a room, they gave us the old defective crib. None of the normal parent will put beby to sleep inside. When we ask for onother , we were told that they can not do anything. […] Among other things door handles of the bathroom fell out and no one came to look, so two days we could not close the door. 4 stars? Are you joking? Room size of micetrap, carton walls as doors and permanent protest-loud shoutings in the corridors. If you in Amsterdam planning not to sleep - this is reasonable choice. Toilets are the same quality as the street ones. Going by car - never. No parking at all, just to approach - it is the worst place in AMS. Fail to see how a 4* rating is in any way justified. 2* would be more appropriate. The double room we had was very cramped, limited light, no bed side tables, no draws for clothes (other than a shelf in the single wardrobe), single glazed and chilly until the heating came on. TV and remote control was problematical and table light had still to be fixed […] - which added to the gloom. Location was perfect, close to train station. Room was small but workable. Only negative was the traffic noise throughout the night.

The hotel was right near tourist sights, buses, places to eat and a supermarket. It was walking distance to the train as well. The staff was very helpful and friendly and spoke English well.

This hotel is NOT a 4 stars. At best 3 stars. They just take advantage of the location. Which is very convenient due to how close everythings is, The Dam Square, the Central Station, the Red light district, etc,etc. The door of my room was left open twice by cleaning ladys, i spoke to them and ask not to let the door open again, since any one can enter […] the room and take whatever they want. The second time, i went to the front desk and complained, well after that they retaliated. They hardly cleaned the room, i had to ask to had the linens changed on the bead. Location terrifically convenient to Central Station, fantastic facade of the building along with its amusing history, pleasant enough staff, BUT there was a mouse in our room, so we asked for another which was provided in short order but once we got to new room it smelled to high heaven, of what we did not stay to investigate, and were given a 3rd room […] fairly quickly but this one was the smallest of the lot. two people with luggage (one bag each) is extremely tight. mattresses lumpy and deeply indented. noisy even on back of bldg. sleep did not come easy in this hotel. next door is a vastly over priced and over rated shopping mall with, however, marvelous archetecture. This was my second or third stay in Die Port, and for some reason, this time the room I was given did have a toilet, but I could not use it. This was quite expensive room and the toilet seat location was such that adult mid size person could not sit on toilet seat, the front wall was just too close about 15cm from the seat. Next time I will check another […] hotel since I will not take a risk in getting similar room again. Previous stays, for the same price, I was very happy with the spacy room etc... The staff at the hotel (only) were helpful (restaurant was another story). When we arrived in our room, it was extremely stinky (lasted throughout the entire stay). There was also a note saying that the Air conditioning did not work as they were undergoing a "soft refurbishing". Maybe it will be better after it's fully "refurbished". Location is fantastic for this hotel. The Dam square is on your doorstep. Next door is a shopping mall and a little supermarket. Outside the hotel is the Tram stop which will take you all over city. I found the hotel average and I would probably stay again. Note that they do not allow early check-in, so check-in is 2pm and they won't let you have […] your key before that. We lucked out and got one of the two balcony rooms and it was great. Our friends did not and although I did not see it they said their room was so small they couldn't open both suitcases at the same time. The location is great. DAM Square is just across the street and the trams are right in front of the hotel. The people at the front desk were very […] friendly and helpful and there is free wi-fi in the lobby. We Stayed at the Die Port van Cleve hotel for 3 nights in August 2010. The hotel is located just behind Dam Square and there is a tram stop directly outside. The location of the hotel was great, it is within easy reach only a few mins walk from all the bars and shops in the Dam Square area, and is only a 5 minute walk to the main train station. Whilst […] we were there the hotel was supposedly in the middle of upgrading the air-conditioning so unfortunately the air-con did not work and because of the time of year this made the rooms very hot. The hotel advertised free wireless internet and although connection to the hotels internet was free it was not wireless and I had to plug an Ethernet cable in to my laptop to connect to the internet which was a disappointment. There is a good selection of English TV channels, notably BBC. There was no mini-bar fridge in the room which was also a disappointment. The public areas in the hotel and beautifully furnished and the restaurant and bar are also very nice, however I found the hotel room we stayed in to be a little tired / shabby in terms of furnishings. We had a great experience at the hotel. Were able to check in early and in fact were upgraded to a suite. Hotel is right behind the palace -super location. Anne Frank's house is four canals (streets) away. The only down side is the air conditioning has not been installed as yet and it was very hot on the top floor during the day. Great hotel and even better location! The hotel is within walking distance to pretty much everywhere you want to be and it is very reasonably priced. The only downside is that there is no AC... which can make for an uncomfortable night's sleep.

Great little hotel in the old part of town. Room and en-suite very adequate. Ideal for our overnight stay prior to cruise. Definitely would stay here again.

I really enjoyed this hotel. Front desk service was good but my room wasn't ready when I arrived even tho it was after 3pm. Had a drink in the nice bar and only waited 15 minutes for the room. Excellent beds and pillows, haven't slept that good in a long time. I stayed 3 nights and the only thing i didn't like was on my last morning, the older gentlemen […] running the breakfast bar was curt with me and rude regarding my payment. I am so glad we picked this hotel. It's a really old building and we didn't expect too much. We were lucky, our room was really big and our window faced a small quad so there was no traffic noise. All the people staying here were young or old couples so no worries about stag or hen parties getting in late at night waking everyone up. The decor wasn't […] modern or anything special but we didn't care - we were only in the room to sleep! At least it was plenty clean enough and the shower was decent. We had late nights and didn't get out of our room til noon or 1pm and even then, when we got in that night we found our room had been cleaned so the maids work later than most other places I've been. The location was nothing short of perfect; 2 mins walk from dam square, 1 min walk from supermarket, 10 min walk down the road from Centraal Station and 10 mins from the dingy red light district - well out of the way but still close enough to visit regularly. Also, it's on a main road so no need for us to risk going up and down dodgy alleyways. Would DEFINITELY stay here again! Lisez la suite

We enjoyed our stay here. The room is fairly basic, but was clean and quite spacious. It could certainly use some upgrades, but was just fine for a night or two. Good location.

We came into Amsterdam with very little knowledge of what to see and where to go. In fact we had never really intended to travel there. Nice hotel in the center of Amsterdam friendly and helpful staff lovely old bar with very nice bar staff the only negative thing was the air conditioning didn't work on a hot night so wee had to sleep with window open in the 24 hour party city very noisy outside

close to the tourist district, but rooms are small and the hotel and resturant is very expensive. the main thing I have negative to say is it is VERY NOISY!!! They loaded pallets in a truck right under our room window all night. They threw them in the truck and workers talking and laughing all during the night. We mentioned it to the desk clerk and […] she said they were expecting more deliveries the next night also. They did change us to another room, but it was even smaller and still noisy. The location of the hotel is perfect, close to Dam Square and within walking distance of the Central Station. However by international standards the hotel and its restaurant were expensive and for the quality of both one felt that standards could be higher.

Very nice place to stay during vacation in Amsterdam. Everything is so close. You don;t need the tram or any other kind of transportation. Room are quite big an quite compering to other hotels in Ams.

It was pretty close to everything which was great- however the room was a bit cold and it seemed like there was only a building temperature and we were not able to make it warmer. I actually slept with my feather down jacket for the beginning of two of the nights and they did not have extra sheets. It got warmer later, i guess they don't turn on the […] heat until a certain time. They also had free lobby internet which was great. The front desk was also very helpful. We might stay here again. Overall, this is... or should be a great hotel. Decent location, good history, traditional, great bar etc.. However, our room itself was more like a 2 star than a 4 star. Cold, not cleaned properly, badly furnished, very 70's looking. Saying that the hotel was being refurbished so we'd be willing to give them the benefit of doubt! Would we stay here […] again... Walking distance from Central train station. Really down town. Convenient distance from Schiphol Airport; 15 min by train plus 10 min walk. Friendly staff prepared to help. Nice restaurant with good breakfast.

We were pleased with the location, but our room smelled of sulfur, there was alot of noise at night, our early wake up call never came and the hotel resturant has a poor breakfast and over priced.

This is my second stay at this Hotel. It is well located, about ten minutes walk from Central Station. Right next to the Magna Plaza shopping Center, The Dam Square right across the street, and the Red Light District at about 5 minutes walk. Therefore it's all about location, i would recomend this Hotel based on location.

This site of the original Heineken brewery is a stones throw from the Royal Palace, Dam Square, Damrak, and shopping boulevard. A perfect launch point for museums and galleries. The key is to advance book the breakfast buffet at check-in for a discount. This buffet is fantastic. Bathtubs are so spotless they welcome you to jump right in. Overpriced. Not sure how this can be a 4* hotel. Everytime we needed something, we would be left queuing at the reception desk for at least 15 mins (usually listening to others complaining about their rooms).

The Hotels Location is amazing, walking distance to most of the attractions. The hotel is very old, and well i guess could use some renovation. The staff are friendly. The hotel was wonderful. Staff was very helpful, breakfast was good and the hotel was located in the perfect spot. The room was small but didn't spend much time in it. Too much to do and see.

1. Wifi didn't work in the room I was initially given. 2. The manager was not helpful and was completely aggravating to deal with 3. my initial room smelled like the inside of a commercial kitchen due to the fact it was located right above the kitchen and that was the view from my window. 4. You can't do better in Amsterdam than this. But there is no A/C if it's unusually hot.

Die Port Van Cleve Hotel is great! We stayed for two nights. The room was clean and the bed was comfy! The front desk people were helpful and friendly.
