The Santa Cruz Dream Inn - a Joie de Vivre Boutique Hotel - Santa Cruz

The staff was very nice, room service was fast (you can order food at the pool) but the drinks were really expensive. Love the heated pool. The pillows were not real comfortable, but i never asked for different ones.

Horrible

We were with a large cycling group that the hotel knew about in advance. Quite surprised and disappointed that the hotel restaurant was extremely understaffed, which created inordinately long waiting time for food, in the restaurant and poolside. Waitstaff was very nice however and food quality very good.

We enjoyed ourselves very much.Without a doubt I would come back to visit. The bed was comfortable but the sheets were hard.I have never felt sheets that hard before while staying at such a nice hotel.

I have to come to Santa Cruz 3 times a year for work, and I stay here every time. I LOVE it. Nothing beats falling asleep to the sound of the waves right below my window lapping onto the shore. Since I use my time in the hotel as a mini vaca, I always order room service. The food can't be beat. The hotel staff is uber polite, helpful and friendly. There were fresh blueberry like stains on one of the beds

The Dream Inn is located right next to the beach and Santa Cruz Boardwalk, but I was there for business. The Santa Cruz wharf has many great restaurants to choose from and is walking distance from the hotel. Truly the best place to stay in Santa Cruz, highly recommended.

Our stay was for one night only. It was the end of our two week honeymoon in California and a friend suggested we head to Santa Cruz instead of San Francisco. The hotel staff we very helpful and accommodating at every step. Five star service from a hotel that can not be in a better location. Clean, Quiet and convenient to major attractions.

The Dream Inn was a perfect stay for a family getaway. My wife and children- a 5 yr old and a 1 yr old, had a blast! Check in was fast. Got to our room and literally threw our bags on the bed and quickly jumped into our swim clothes. Kids enjoyed the heated kids pool where even my wife and I stayed in and splashed with them. The pool overlooks the ocean and has direct access to the beach. It's walking distance to the wharf and the boardwalk. The staff were amazing! Lovely place. The beachfront rooms have wonderful views. Everyone was very nice. The only drawback was that breakfast was not included.

The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It is conviently located to the beach, beach boardwalk and the wharf. We would will recommend the hotel to our friends.

we first were put in a room on the 6th floor. Took a nap and woke up to some pounding that would not stop. Asked the clerk to change our room being he said there would be some construction going on for our entire stay. Put us on the 1st floor. Nice room but had a handicapped bathroom so water pressure was nil. Could not hear the ocean because we couldn't […] keep the door open. Loud people came in at 12:00 midnight and about 2:00. My wife stays at the Dream Inn every time she's in Santa Cruz; this three-night stay, in March 2012, was my first, and we were fortunate to have an eighth-floor room. A lovely place, of course: nice room; giant, comfortable bed; balcony overlooking the beach just a few feet away; friendly staff. Would have been perfect but for some caveats: • Parking […] is $22 a day, across the street; if you take advantage of the valet option, add a tip to that. In a town with ample free parking and inexpensive lots and meters downtown, it's extortionate. • The restaurant and lounge are so inconveniently located that it's hilarious: One must follow unclear directions and then venture outdoors and down bare stairwells and through corridors to get there—if you make it at all, since there are no signs. The process is less like taking the back door into the Copacabana (à la "Goodfellas") than it is like sneaking into a high-school dance. • The shower (in room 822, anyway) is very attractive . . . and the single worst-designed shower I've ever seen. You'll enjoy trying to figure out how to turn on the water without getting soaked and then how to get the temperature right, since the dial leaves it almost deliberately vague; afterward you can grab a towel from the towel rack, except that the rack can't be reached from the shower. Anyway, I'd still recommend the Dream Inn—it is awfully dreamy to fall asleep to the crashing of waves! But the handful of issues are annoying enough to mention. Lisez la suite

Great views of the beach, water and boardwalk. It's great to enjoy the sound of the waves crashing on the beach.

My daughter is a freshman at UCSC and has not been "impressed" with the surrounding areas. When her siblings, grandparents, and I decided to visit her she And I were a bit concerned with finding a nice hotel near by. Wow, we're we surprised! This was Perfect in every way for the weekend! My husband and I stayed at the DreamInn and have decided that we would make it an annual trip as it was amazing. The staff were a pleasure and just the whole atmosphere at the hotel itself was refreshing. I have been talking non stop about out little get away. I have highly recommended the hotel to everyone I know. We can't wait to come back.

First time staying here...hotel is nice, great proximity to beach, boardwalk, restaturants,etc. Staff are super friendly....we arrived an hour before check in and they said we could hang out by pool and they would call us when the room was ready. never got a call...finally just went back. Our room was on the bottom floor and we could walk right out […] the patio door to the pool...pretty cool. But the hallway outside our door was the main traffic way to the pool for other guests...so lots of echoing noise as people were coming and going. There were towel carts that went up and down the halls at all hours...again a lot of echoing noise on the tiled hallway. All in all, I will probably try something else again before I come back. The Joie De Vivre brand always has some issues with service, but this one was the worst. The 60 mod/early 70's kitsch decor was tolerable, and for a remodel the rooms themselves weren't bad. All rooms are indeed oceanfront. The walls are indeed thin, and you can hear every sound in the hallway as if you were sitting in it. It does smell very weird in […] the halls. The valet and bellhop service is mandatory- they tell you there is optional self parking across the street for 22/day, and you cannot use one of their luggage carts. So you must valet, and use their boy to help with your bags, and tip everyone out accordingly (each way). It's about equal to self-parking, and somewhat more convenient by design, so whatever. Night staff seemed pleasant enough, if a bit hawkish. What I read of the adjoining restaurant reviews convinced me to skip it, and the car was brought back around promptly. We went out, came back, and with the exception of an exceptionally small mini fridge (could probably hold two bottles of wine and two sodas- further encouragement to eat elsewhere) everything was fine.... Until the next morning. An hour prior to our checkout, the water to our room was turned off- as I was about to shower. We called down, and they said the water needed to be be turned off, they didn't know why or how long it would be, and I should go get in the jacuzzi downstairs to wait. An hour prior to checkout. No warning. I can hear drilling and clinking above my head at this point, so i decide to sit it out. Suddenly, the power goes out. Not just for our room, but the entire hotel, which we didn't realize until an hour later when our calls went unanswered and we tried to go downstairs to investigate. No elevator. No lights in the stairs- not even emergency strobes. Nothing. No one comes to check on us, except the maid, who wanted to clean the room (somehow). We explained we were trapped and she didn't really understand, but moved on. And so we waited. Three hours after our checkout Lisez la suite

Aside from being absolutley beautiful, comfortable, and modern, this hotel boasts some of the BEST Customer Service I've ever experienced! We called in early about check in. Our room wasnt ready but they offered to call when it was ready, and they did!!! They put us in a beautiful king room, overlooking the West Cliff Bluffs and the Boardwalk. We had […] minor trouble with your TV, They transfered into an equally great room and comped our movie that we had purchased. We made reservations at the Aquarious Restaurant in the hotel, absolutley gorgeous. We had a drink and appertizor before dinner. Spectacular! They all greeted us kindly, knew we were hotel guests, called us by name! Then off to dinner, in a corner seat surrounded by windows and a breathless view! The Appetizers, drinks, wine, dinner, and dessert were soooo perfect, its hard to put into the words. The service was great from the hostess, busboy, to the servers, just great! A MUST TRY - The Dungeness Crab Won Tons, never had anything so great! My New York Steak was perfect but my boyfriend had the Scallops and Gnocchi - OUT of this world! I will stay again and again! The hotel was very nice and clean, staff was wonderful and willing to help! The only downfall is the noise level in the morning. The room we were in was near the elevator and when maintenance began cleaning early in the morning or people spoke at the front desk you could hear it all! Absolutely loved this hotel. My daughter and I went out to Santa Cruz to surf for two days and this location was perfect. Beautiful views off the balcony, the sound of the ocean all night long, a wonderful hot tub under the stars and a tasty restaurant to boot. I rarely have no complaints about any given destination (I usually can find something) but […] this hotel exceeded my expectations. I have mixed feelings of this hotel. We got the suites with a balcony overlooking the ocean wich was wonderful. But somehow this hotel seemed like it wanted to be luxurious but missed some things with the decoration and it felt a bit naked. Too few things on the walls. Also, we didn't have enough lightbulbs in the lamps. Waaaay to expensive parking. […] I don't know much about the location, it was on the beach next to the pier. Santa Cruz seemed like a small fishing village, we came at night and left in the morning, so I can't really say anything except that beach and ocean view was wonderful and the beds were comfortable. The location and view was awesome. Didn't care much for the extra $22 a day for parking and the extra charges for bottled water. Most hotels give you the bottled water in your room. I'm not sure about walking the beach at night either there seems to be a homeless problem where they are staying under the pool area and roaming around. I had a wonderful experience; especially having a porch that faced the Ocean from which I could hear the soothing waves at night. The staff was super friendly. I have a service dog and they were extremely accommodating to me and my dog. 5 stars!

It is marvelous to sleep with our balcony door open enough to hear the ocean! All the staff was helpfuland pleasant.

If you like the beach and Boardwalk and wharf area you can't find a better place to stay than the Dream Inn. Rooms are clean, comfortable and all have great views of the ocean.

We love this place and have been a couple of times, and hope to continue to frequent this location. It has a nice bed and pillow selections. The rooms are nice and the location is great. It has a nice pool and located right next to the beach. The staff is nice. The only downside this last visit was there were a lot of ants in our room and they didn't […] seem very concerned about it.
