the hotel was great except one major inconvience being only one elevator working and a very small one (max 6 people). the service was great and the location was perfect the price was reasonable in comparison to other hotels in the area. San Francisco is very expensive for hotels on a whole. i would stay there again hopefully the elevators both work […] . Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
If you are not familiar with San Francisco be aware that this hotel does not have a parking garage, it is in a very busy street. The room was a deluxe room very small comparing to others we've stayed in san francisco and the person who we checked in with was not very friendly or helpful. One of the elevators was not working, so it was an inconvenience […] we had to wait since it was the only elevator for the whole hotel. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
This was our second stay at this hotel......loved it again! The staff was very friendly, everything was very clean, there is a great restaurant right there adjacent to the hotel lobby.....all in all a great weekend experience. We will make this our San Francisco home away from home in the future. BBAvis certifié Hotels.com
The rooms look WAY bigger online. After getting to the shack of a room, it was right on the street and super noisy. Nowhere to park so you have to valet your car(which is $50/night + tax + hidden fees;)) Upon arrival, they would not accept cash for a $200 'incidental charge' just in case you damage the room. Oh and even if you DON'T damage the room, […] they charge you anyway. When checking out, I asked for the $200 back because I knew there was no damage to the room. Someone has to check the mini bar 'just in case' in order to get this refund. They had the manager speak to me after inspecting my room for the mini bar, and she accused me of smoking in the room. They charged me a $300 'smoking fee' + tax + hidden fees;) I could not check out unless I paid these fees. Total cost for 2 nights? $1200 + tax PLUS.......hidden fees;) Enjoy! "Okay hotel on busy Powell Street"
The rooms were very musty and stuffy. I ran the window air conditioner all day to try to remedy the smell. I had a room facing Powell Street which is very noisy and between the sounds of the cable cars, horns honking and people talking loud or yelling it was not quiet until about 2am. This is a typical old San Francisco Hotel with a tiny bathroom that […] only holds one person. I will not stay here again. I've stayed in lower rated hotels in SF that were nicer. I've also stayed in hotels in San Francisco that were about the same age but refurbished and more pleasant. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Fantastic little gem"
I feel pretty good about finding this little gem of a hotel right in the action of Union Square. I would definitely stay here again! The rooms are small, like in most major metropolitan areas but extremely clean and the staff was beyond friendly and helpful. Loved it and I wished I could have stayed a few more nights.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Definitely worth it overall"
The location is perfect. This hotel is definitely the best overall in it's price range. The room is big enough, and the area is very safe and so close to union square and the Bart station. Also right in front is the cable car station. The only slight drawback is no views but to me that doesn't matter.Avis certifié Hotels.com
Small rooms but adequate. I believe the funny smell is prob related to a carpet cleaning product. Time to change brandsAvis certifié Hotels.com
I was participating in a national examination at a nearby hotel. I was happy to find rates here were less than at that location. Incredibly convenient to Union Square and was a great fit for the weekend. Rooms were small, and slightly noisy if window faces the street. All in all I was very happy with my stay. Thanks.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"In the heart of Union square"
We had to extend our stay in San Francisco and moved from Hotel Adagio to this hotel. So glad we did! It's an older hotel but still clean. I felt like there was history in the halls and our room. Great service from the front desk and bell man. Small ac unit in the room but got very cold. Location is great! Right in the heart of union square across from […] Macy's, Aldo's, H&m, and a couple blocks from the Cable Car drop off. Loved it would def stay here again for a good price! "Very friendly service"
We had an enjoyable trip. The hotel was perfectly located to union square, shopping, the trolley car and the Bart. The hotel staff, especially a woman named Brooklyn were very friendly and helpful.Avis certifié Hotels.com

"Not a bad deal in the Heart of SF"
Good location, not great for a car unless you want to pay $52. a night to store it at the hotel. It's city living. Would stay here again!Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Right next to Union Square"
This hotel was nice, our room was a newly renovated room. (Apparently one of the model rooms for an upcoming renovation. 302 was the number ;) we enjoyed being so close to shopping and our Play at the SF Playhouse.Avis certifié Hotels.com
They add a bogus charge to your room. I had read the hotel reviews beforehand, and I crossed out the charges, but they came anyway. The real problem is hotels[dot]com, which is also ethically challenged. They misrepresented the hotel fees to begin with. Business-Ethics: an oxymoron.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Adequate Hotel in Great Location"
The Villa Florence can best be described as adequate. The room we had was spacious but very dated and not as clean as it should have been. The hotel is in a good location in Union Square but if you are looking for an elegant place to stay the Villa Florence is not for you.Avis certifié Hotels.com
We had valet parking which was good.A really good place to stay where all the action is.You really don't need a car, you have tansit which is cheap.the rooms were a nice size. I would stay there again.Avis certifié Hotels.com

"A Gem in Union Square"
The hotel was so quaint and was in a great location in the middle of Union Square. A little over-priced for a family of three, but the room was wonderful and unique. Loved the little lobby bar and coffee shop, so convenient when you are waiting for others. Didn't try the restaurant that is next door on either side, but looked delightful. "Good hotel, but not great."
The staff, decor, and location were good. But our room looked out at a wall - not a rarity in San Francisco, but would have been nice to be offered another room since they were not full. The main complaint was the bed linens. The blankets were stained and the sheets had circular patches on them which were virtually worn through...perhaps caused by some […] of the laundry equipment, but they should have been noticed by the staff and thrown out at a hotel that costs that much! Also the carpet was worn. Would have felt more luxurious without these things, but the location and room were good enough that we still enjoyed our night in the city. Though I probably won't re-book at Villa Florence next time. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"CLOSE TO MAIN UNTION SQUARE OUT YOUR DOOR STEP"
I LOVED THIS HOTEL, VERY OLD AND WELL KEPT UP. THE ROOM WAS SMALL BUT VERY SET UP CUTE. AND WITH IT BEING OLD THE HOTEL HAD NO OLD SMELL TO IT. VERY CLEAN AND THE BED WAS VERY COMFORTABLE. WILL LOVE TO STAY HERE AGAIN! WE GOT LUCK AND GOT A GREAT ROOM RATE.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Tired hotel; great price"
This former Kimpton hotel is tired, and a complete renovation is about 5 years overdue. All case goods and soft goods are old and dated. However, location is fantastic and price was great. Hotel was clean (despite many permanent carpet stains), and service was good. "only one little problem"
Everything is fantastic, especially the valet attention when you pull up with your car. However, the small room size was a drawback since there is no where to lay out your luggage. Also, there were no bedside lamps. A real inconvenience. The proximity to Union Square and the Kuleto restaurant on the bottom floor overshadows the small drawbacks.Avis certifié Hotels.com
Good location with excellent Italian restaurant on ground floor. Easy access to BART station and restaurants/shopping. However, the room was very noisy on the street side and their were a couple people on the street below between 3 am-7am shouting and keeping everyone awake. We were on the top floor of the hotel, but the sound on the street carried […] up and through the window AC unit. This was unfortunate and probably a rare occurrence. There was a peculiar "off" smell in the bathroom as well. Room was furnished nicely and for the small size was laid out pretty good. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia

Room was good-sized. Clean. Good shower, comfortable bed, and window a/c was effective. Most rooms have a scenic view of a wall - but it makes it quiet for sleeping. 3/4 lock from Union Square. In mid-July, the street in front was very, very crowded from 8am-11pm. Unloading can be a hassle. "Best mistake I ever made. . ."
I made a last minute booking. I needed two suits for two nights and Villa Florence seemed to offer these at a good rate. This is a great hotel -- Victoria greeted us at the reception and on seeing it was my girlfriends birthday ordered us a birthday cake and as if that was not enough sent a bottle of champagne to the room. We never mentioned anything, […] she just saw the date on her drivers license. The rooms, or the suites, were great -- Have no idea what others had issue with, the rooms and the bathrooms, these were plenty big enough. It reminded me of an Italian hotel in Italy, real depth and history to the building, the furnishings were real and solid, they’d seen some years but that only added to the comfort level as far as I was concerned. If you want a flatpack Ikea room then you might be better suited to a Hilton or a Marriot, but this is the real thing, it’s like the Chateau Marmont in LA, or the what the Gramercy Park Hotel in NYC used to be like. But what makes this hotel stand out is the staff -- It wasn’t just Victoria that was great, they all worked so hard to make our stay enjoyable and seamless, nothing was a problem. Great experience overall and this will be our first choice when we next go to SF. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Nice hotel on Powell at Union Square"
It was very conveniently located, the Cable Car passes right in front. It's in the middle of the hustle of Union Square, a couple of blocks away from the Bart station. The room was nice, even though it over looked the street and it was noisy at times (but we were asked if we wanted a quiet room or one overlooking the street, which we chose).Avis certifié Expedia
Nice locations, excellent for transport around the city. Air conditioning was somewhat noisy.Avis certifié Expedia
"Just ok...a little high priced for the experience"
Decor was lovely, the rooms are very small. Recent updates are obvious from the comfy beds to the fresh paint, but the electrical outlets (ALL of them) were loose. It was tough to charge electronics and dry my hair. Bathrooms are very small and don't have curved shower curtain rods, so the curtain sticks to you the whole time you're showering. (Yes, […] things this small gross me out.). The staff was ok, not super friendly, not rude. Lobby and restaurant areas are lovely. Very convenient location, but colleagues stayed a few doors down at a nicer facility for less. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com

"Not bad, but DO NOT DRIVE HERE"
If you bring your car, forget it. Drop off and valet on one of the busiest streets in SF is simply not happening. Either leave your car at JW Marriott (which is what the hotel uses) 3 blocks away or park at Union Square (1/2 block). The hotel is dated, obviously from 80 or more years ago. Small rooms, window aircos, odd configuration, tiny elevators. […] But it is clean, well kept and updated. The price is excellent, and if shopping is your thing, you are right on Union Square and 1 block from cable cars and BART. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Nice location, but not great"
An OK hotel if you're a tourist visiting San Francisco and you didn't drive. We drove from the East Bay for a weekend in the city and parking was a huge headache, as the hotel itself doesn't have a garage. Had to circle the block for an hour or so until there was an open spot to park for the valet, which wasn't exactly cheap, but about average for SF. […] I wish we had just taken BART. Also, the street noise goes on late into the night. Other than that, it's right on Powell street and a short walk to China Town and North Beach. Kind of reminded me of some hotels I stayed at in Florence, so I guess the name is somewhat fitting... Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia

"Inexpensive Union Square"
Small rooms and small beds but nice. Great restaurant. Nice staff!Avis certifié Expedia
The hotel is in a great location and rooms were clean and comfortable. however, the check in experience was poor and the staff missed an opportunity to be proactive and diffuse a situation. We arrived at 2.15pm, check in was at 3pm and initially the staff were friendly and polite and told us our room wouldn't be ready until 3pm. When we arrived back […] at 3pm, they said our room 'wasn't showing' as ready and they would need to check personally, they just left us standing for 10 mins before telling us it wasn't ready but it would only take another few minutes. We heard an exchange with housekeeping that suggested a few minutes was at least 10 more minutes so we asked specifically how long it would take and were told, it would only be a 'few'. We were given the excuse that the hotel had been full the night before, staff were busy, etc. None of which were our concern; we were left standing until I suggested to the manager that a complimentary coffee and a seat might be appreciated - their response was i was just about to offer. Our room was finally ready at 3.35pm. Had we have been told immediately that there would be a delay and offered a seat and coffee, the matter would have been resolved, the lack of clarity, excuses and our own initiation of complimentary coffee just made it feel like a hassle. "Parking? FORGET IT!"
Hotel itself was ok. Request room NOT facing onto Powell Street (facing courtyard for instance) for quiet. Bathroom TINY.And if you are arriving via car be prepared-- we had to park our own car blocks away because the valet/concierge did NOTHING to help us, and SF parking is a nightmare.
