Excellent hotel! I expected it to be uncomfortable and stodgy, but it was quite the opposite! The staff was very friendly, in particular the bartender and front desk staff. Thank you to all for making my stay extremely pleasant!

The last time I was in San Diego I stayed at the US Grant. The Westgate was just as nice! The rooms are a little more spacious and their breakfast restaurant has amazing croissants. I missed housekeeping and it did take an hour for them to bring me an extra set of towels. If you are looking at staying in Downtown San Diego, this is a great hotel. Located at the top of the Gaslamp District, you can easily walk to the heart of it all. Note, if you are not looking to go out at night, or don't mind a taxi, then you may want to consider staying on the harbor; after all, this is a downtown area. BUT, if you want or need to […] stay downtown, I would highly recommend the Westgate. As for the service fee of $15, well, to me it's well worth it. You get complimentary wifi (usually $9.95 - $19.95), 4 small bottles of water (cost you $5.00+, or more if you buy it in any hotel), access to the gym, AND, all the apples you can eat... From the friendly staff to the cleanliness and comfort of the hotel, I couldn't ask for a better hotel. To top things off, they had a live harpist in the lounge area! Talk about high class live music. Convenient location as well.

the hotel is on the older side and not as opulent as the US Grant next door, however rooms are clean and comfortable, close to all in downtown and convention center, parking is ridiculous, I parked two cars for three days @ $32.00 per day per car, friendly and helpful hotelstaff

Enjoyed our stay immensely and it was a pleasant surprise considering the room rates compared to other hotels. Will stay again.

i fell in love with this Hotel the minute i walked in, its a perfect location to enjoy all the night life has to offer in san diego, near stores and restaurants. The Hotel itself is gorgeous Victorian style and being that im a girl i loved their powder room. I will definitly stay here again.

This hotel is right in the middle of everything. You can catch the trolley right in front of the hotel. The staff was superb. Very friendly and very helpful. However, the only downside is that they charge a $30 resort fee which is crazy along with their $32 hotel parking per night. It's very expensive.

This hotel is steps away from the atmosphere, restaurants and people watching in the Gaslamp quarter. When you've had your evening out, you can retire to a quiet, comfortable room. The staff, in particular, the concierge (who is fabulous), makes every effort to be helpful. I would recommend it and return on my next trip.

This was a really underrated first class hotel. I will choose to stay here as a first choice the next time I'm in town.

My husband and I went to San Diego for a little get away and could not have been happier with our choice of the W hotel. The staff was beyond friendly, the rooms are unique and the location was perfect! We walked to breakfast and dinner almost every day and if we wanted to go down to the beach, the freeway was only a few blocks away. I now know how a five star hotel is supposed to feel. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable. I asked for restaurant suggestions and received a detailed description including price and formality. The receptionist also had great suggestions for sights to see, etc. The location was very convenient. My meeting was at the NBC Building on Broadway. […] The hotel was half a block away. The room was well set out. It was bright and clean. In addition to the usual items, there was an overstuffed chair and ottoman, a large, leather appointed work table, and the latest in clock/ipod ports as well as in room web connections. The restaurant in the hotel was excellent, and it was opened sufficiently early to allow me to enjoy breakfast before walking to my morning meeting. Lastly, they didn't charge for everything. The business center, gym, etc. were included in a small fee. There were other free items like fresh fruit and bottled water. I would definitely stay there again if I were in San Diego. This hotel has obviously seen better days. Although the service and housekeeping are fine, the hotel is old and in need of remodeling/refurbishing. There are no refrigerators in the rooms, TVs are old and there are no ice machines in the building although ice is provided by housekeeping. We were charged $50 for "services" such as a new coffee pot in the room and printing out our boarding passes. There were no "extra" towels in the bathroom. The sirens of the fire department were non-stop! The room was not cleaned until after 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

I have to say from the beginning that I'm very finicky about where we stay. I was very happy with everything at the Westgate. The rooms were well appointed and spacious. Beds were very comfortable, and the showers were heavenly! The rooms and the lobby were even nicer than in the pictures we saw before booking. We took our 2 teenage grandaughters with […] us, and wanted to be close to most things. The location couldn't have been better. Good neighborhood, and we felt very safe everywhere we walked. We were only one block from Horton Plaza (great shopping). Restaurants were very close. We had breakfast every morning at the Saint Tropez, which was only 1/2 block away. The food was very good and the restaurant was charming. We were able to walk to many places, and took cabs or the trolley to the remainder. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Lisez la suite

High quality great service hotel the way a hotel should be

It is a great hotel, located walking distance from Gas Lamp. The only complaint I have is that the shower didn't drain well. But, I didn't ask for any maintenance, so it is partly my fault. :)

Exceptional staff courtesies, a spacious room in traditional upscale style. Newspaper, coffee in the lobby by 5:30 am and seasonal fruit on the reception desk all free. Breakfast in the restaurant timely with beautiful service and fresh flowers. Easily walkable to Conv. Center even though January stay. No safety concerns after dark with streets lively […] and occupied. Alternate route to Conv. Center available at trolley stop 1/2 block from front door. Delightful. A bargain and worth every penny. This hotel has the type of traditional elegance which reminds you of the Biltmore in LA or the Plaza in NY. However, although it puts on a good show, I believe it has gotten a bit rough around the edges. The TV in our room emitted a constant whining sound -- clearly it needs to be replaced. Also, its remote control did not work consistently. Therefore, […] I gave up on watching TV. When I went downstairs to the lobby at 7am for coffee (because the rooms do not have coffee makers, but that is a different story), the cofffee urn was empty. Though the food was delicious, the service in the restaurant was also inconsistent. After finishing my appetizer, my empty plates remained on the table for over twenty minutes, during which time I never saw an employee of any kind. Very, very pleasant hotel, great deal for the money.

I booked this hotel via Expedia and was impressed with the rate I got. When I arrived I could not believe how luxurious the place was, especially since I got the room for a rate substantially lower than the nearby official "conference hotels" for the meeting I was attending. The room was gorgeous, room service was delicious and prompt, the fitness center […] was great, the turn down service and help from the concierge were outstanding. I would stay here again in a minute. You get quite a lot of luxury for your dollar at the Westgate. Stay here if you want to pamper yourself without breaking the bank. :-) Lisez la suite

The Westgate Hotel exceeded my expectations. I have stayed in a lot of top rated hotels, but Westgate by far is the best. From the time I got to the entrance till the time I left the staff were polite, helpful, and kind. In addition to daily maid service, your bed was turned down everynight. The concierge and massage services were awesome. The Hotel […] structure and dedor has a French or European flavor, this I found very attractive. My room was spacious and I have a great view. It is conveniently located close to the airport, tourist attractions such as the San Diego Zoo, Museums, the Convention Center and La Jolla Beach, Balboa Park; a mall, restaurants and public transportation. I stayed in this hotel for a scientific conference. It is very plush, the rooms were clean, marble in the bathrooms. The internet connection was fast, free, no password, it just worked. This is a big plus because when I have attended this conference in other cities most hotels do not have the bandwidth for the guests. I had a hard time finding an outlet […] that reached the desk. It was very quiet. The hotel was probably completely full but I never heard any other guests. Lots of nice furniture. Comfy chairs, large desk. They turn down the bed at night and leave a mint. I did not use any hotel services. My co-worker did find they had a gym to workout in. They did want to charge $20/night for a refrigerator in the room. They should really stop doing this. I am fine if they want fridges to be requested so they don't have hundreds of fridges plugged into every room, but the price is way too steep. Lisez la suite

The Hotel was exquisitely decorated. We felt like we were back in Paris. The the large lobby with it's provincial decor, sofa settings, tapestries, fine furnishings and music was so relaxing. The desk and bell cap staff were attentive and extremely polite. The room was wonderful. Large, clean, well appointed , and had a beautiful view.

What a great hotel. The price was great, and the hotel is stunning. The location is excellent, we walked out the door the first night and were in the excitement of the Gaslight District in moments. The next morning we took a quick stroll to Little Italy and the weekend farmers market, that was great fun. We both agreed - the Westgate is our hotel from […] now on. This is my favorite hotel in SD. Room service, nice gym, free wireless, understated, balconies in most rooms and very conveniently located.

If you need a central location in downtown, it is very convenient. Rooms are large with high ceilings so you don't feel confined. Classy old style appearance and not so large that it is chaotic in the lobby. Very nice.

The hotel itself is nice and is in a convenient location but, be prepared to hear EVERYTHING that happens downtown. We would awake to sirens and trucks, early in the morning. Also, the rooms share a common door, that leads to the foyer that the two rooms share, which can become a nuisance if your neighbors (like ours) get us early and like to allow […] their door to slam. Also, we orderd room service for breakfast, our first day there and, after 4 calls (throughout a 6 hour span) and a visit to the front desk, the food cart was finally removed. They have valet parking, which is convenient, as street parking is very difficult to find but, it is rather expensive. The room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfortable. This hotel provided my girlfriend and me with the perfect overnight getaway. loved this hotel, Vintage key style is perfect. Valet is SWEET. Antique atmosphere is absolutely intense when you mention to your significant other that there "...may be disturbances in tbe night..." I'm goin' back. That's all there is to it.

It was better than expected. Nice eviroment, nice welcome music at the hotel lobby and in the room as well. Good hotel but expensive car parking rate. Located in San Diego downtown close to San Diego zoo, museum and all restaurants.

Lovely European style hotel downtown and close to shopping, symphony, theatre and the gas lamp quarter.

We did not like our stay at the Westgate. The hotel staff was not helpful or knowledgable about what was going on in the area. Room service was not delivered on time and still not delivered when promised after several attempts. Loud party noise kept us up all night from the tenants in the next room. When ask for assistance of a flight out of San Diego, […] we were told they were too busy to assist. This hotel should be given a 1 star rating.
