This hotel served its purpose which was proximity to the convention center. The room is nice and clean, and the turndown service was a treat. My only major complaint was that you are charged the $15 a day resort fee. I have no problem with this, except for the fact that they did not have a resort! The pool and jacuzzi were not functioning (apparently […] they were remodeling), and the gym was a joke (also being remodeled). So what exactly am I paying $15 a day for? I asked the front desk this and they could not give me an answer... for this reason I will not stay here again. Lisez la suite

I thought the hotel was lovely. I really enjoyed the antique furnishings in the lobby and the grand feeling . Personnel were all very personable and helpful.

This hotel was absolutely exquisite!! The decor was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. This hotel looks like it's straight our of some European Castle. Honestly it was breathtaking :-)

Very beautiful Classic style, a must- return hotel. Next to US Grant hotel. Definitely not a outdated one. Highly recommend !!

This was our second visit to this hotel and we would return for sure. It is an elegant hotel and our room was spacious and comfortable with an enjoyable front view from the 14th floor.. The hotel was very convenient to the downtown area, Gaslight District, harbor area. Trolley tracks are right outside on Avenue C and a day pass gets you anywhere without using your car. The hotel is decorated in a high class manner but needs some updating and overall maintenance. Our biggest complaint was lack of control of temperature in our room. […] Regardless of the setting of thermostat it remained too cool. I understand they were having HVAC problems. The television was not HD and control through their antiquated service was cumbersome. Parking is $35 day in and out valet only. With these items, it seemed a little overpriced. Lisez la suite

When we couldn't get reservations at any of the listed hotel for our recent medical meeting, we found The Westgate had an available room on Hotels.com. We couldn't have made a better choice. The staff was uniformly pleasant, helpful, and efficient. Although the building has the look of an elegant old world European hotel, complete with beautiful antiques […] and art, it is actually relatively new and modern. The rooms are immaculate, large, and well appointed with nightly turn down service. The bathrooms are elegant, new and sparkling clean. Even the finish work (caulking, paint, finishes) are first class; a rarity in even better hotels as a rule. Breakfast in the hotel dining room felt like we were in a finer hotel in Europe (although the prices were not outrageous for a big city hotel). And the restaurants, shops, etc in the gaslight district are all within easy walking distance. The convention center was a pleasant 15-20 minute walk away. Lisez la suite

I have stayed in many hotels but have yet stayed in a hotel that went beyond my expectations. The hotel staff were always there to help, recommend or just smile and wish you a nice day. The rooms were clean, spacious...loved the turn down service in the evening with nice relaxing music welcoming you in the room at night. Free internet, free water, water […] bucket always filled with ice. Then in the lobby in the afternoon there would be someone playing the harp and high tea was being served. Excellent hotel service and very good location for Downtown and the Gaslamp area. The room was clean and comfortable with housekeeping and turn down service carried out daily without fail. Having visited San Diego on numerous occasions this is the best hotel that I have stayed in so far. The only negative point to the stay was the road/general noise. […] Even from the 15th floor with the windows closed the noise was quite obvious first thing in the morning and throughout the day. However, this remains a trivial point as everything quietened down later on in the evening, and the majority of the days were spent away from the hotel. Very nice and quiet place to stay. We stayed for our anniversary and were very please with the location. Close to everything. Nice view too.

Great value for size of room and bathroom and other amenities. The hotel has the feel of an old European luxury hotel. Within walking distance of excellent restaurants and shopping. Will definitely stay there again.

The Westgate is a delight. The rooms are unusually spacious, with large bathrooms. The beds are comfortable, the bedding crisp and high-quality. Little extras include a turn-down service in the evening with chocolates and tea in the afternoons. The restaurant is also unusally good. we flew in a day ahead of out cruise. the location was within walking distance of the bay cruises as well as the cruise port. the hotel was on the edge of the gaslite quarter. lots of good restaurants, entertainment, gelato. all within easy walking distance from the hotel.an easy taxi ride from the airport. we would stay there again on a visit to San […] Diego Lisez la suite

Room was very nice, staff was helpful.....however, they like to charge lots of "incidental" fees! Not really sure what those are since I did not order any room service, never used the phone, or even turned the TV on! The location was great and overall I had a nice stay. I had picked this hotel because the price was not too bad but with I paid for parking, I could have stayed somewhere closer to the convention center, $35/day for parking, I find it ridiculous!!!

The stay was a wonderful experience. Close to the Gaslamp district and local transport links. The city is fantastic and we could have done with longer. Nothing was too much trouble

The hotel is very elegant, clean, and convenient in so many ways. The location is fantastic (close to gas lamp, shopping, and great restaurants). It's been a long time since we opted to have room service for dinner instead of going out to dinner but the food and service were good and we really enjoyed the room and staff. I would highly recommend this […] place. I am generally very hard to please. The only thing I'd change was the bed was a bit firm for me. Other than that they've got everything down to perfection. Nice and Quiet Hotel though Rooms in need for refuribishment, especially bathrooms. Staff was friendly, the rooms rate was overpriced for a 4 star hotel. On the other hand, it was convieniant distance to the convention centre and close to Mall.

Just drove down from Vegas for an overnight stay to catch the charger game and get some drinks in gas lamp since my good friend and I had never rally explored it before. The hotel was easy to get to. In a pretty nice part of the district. And was 5 minute walks from great places to eat and drink. It's a short drive to the zoo and football satadium.... […] You can see the baseball stadium from the rooms. The room itself was very clean and amazing overall. The beds were nice and the bathroom was amazing! The only complaint anyone had was no power outlets I. The bathroom vanity for all the lady hair tools my friend had packed. The front desk was super polite and helpful. Valet was 32 for a night which is pricy for us Vegas folk but par for the course in SD And the lot was very secure. The lobby is amazing. And our windows actually open to a balcony! An un heard of thing in las Vegas. I am one of those people that, once I find a something I like, I stick with it. Pretty much was happy with everything about the hotel, except the linens and pillows. The sheets were pretty rough for the amount of money you spend on a high class hotel and the pillows were extremly soft and frumpy. It was a little difficult to sleep which if dissapointing because that's kind of why you get a hotel room to start with.

The Westgate Hotel is a great example for old world charm. There were no prices on the room service meals and the bed linens are turned down for you for the night...every night. One thing I did not like, I was billed $15 each day + tax- beyond the room price, for the avialability of wifi service and four bottles of water in the refridgerator.. Unforunately […] for me, the heating system in my room malfunctioned. Service came quickly and the bellboy took my luggage and bags to the new room. Excellent location and excellent quality. The only downside is you will always feel underdressed at this hotel and the street noise is pretty loud at night. I would still recommend this hotel and go back given the chance.

If you are staying in San Diego, this is a must. Superior service with a friendly attitude. The decor is elegant to say the least. The Westage is a charming hotel in the heart of San Diego. Its closeness to the Convention Centre, good food and entertainment makes it an ideal choice for staying and even relaxing. Very nice, french like, nice staff, great large clean room, would highly recommend, nothing negative at all, first class place, will stay there again when I revisit san diego

This is a great place to stay if you want the convenience of being downtown. We took the city bus from and to the airport for just $2.25 each way and the bus stop was right across the street from the hotel. For $5.00 you get an all day pass. The service is excellent and the room is very beautiful. You have a foyer and then open the door to one of two […] rooms in that foyer. Great if you are renting both rooms also because you could just leave the room doors wide open and still have privacy. Lisez la suite

After shopping hotels.com for a hotel near the San Diego Convention center, I chose the Westgate for the price and overall rating. This hotel lives up to it's 4+ stars. Beautiful lobby, friendly helpful front desk staff, and very spacious rooms. This is an older hotel, but has been beautifully maintained and upgraded. Marble in bathrooms, plenty of […] drawer space, dimmer switches on the lights. The rooms come with a "cooler" and free bottled water, but you can also have an true refrigerator brought up for a one time moderate charge for your entire stay. They also charge a daily "resort fee", but this includes internet and use of their business center which I found to be very helpful (would have paid close to this much for internet at other hotels). The Westgate is about 7 blocks from the convention center, and about the same distance to the Amtrak station. Both are easy walks. On the downside, there is considerable noise from emergency vehicles. I also had minor issues with water pressure, and there were some rather large spots on the carpet that had been cleaned leaving discolored areas. The maid service was too much for me... they are in and out of the rooms numerous times each day, including 'turn down' service at night. Tip: Put your 'do not disturb' sign on the outer door into your room if you don't want the maids banging the door in the middle of the night when they deliver your newspaper. All told, the service, view and location outway the minor problems, and I would definitely stay here again. Lisez la suite

Stunning hotel, large rooms, great location!

Our stay at the Westgate Hotel was excellent for all but one reason. I spoke with a lady at the front desk before we left for dinner and asked that someone check the drain in our shower, and that no water would drain. She assured me that Maintenance would be up there in a hurry. Four hours later when we returned from dinner and drinks, our shower still […] full of water. Where is the customer service? Everything about this hotel was absolutely perfect! I booked a room for my girlfriend's birthday, and everything was beautiful. The person working room service had very little idea of what was on the menu for breakfast, and the doorman outside was kinda rude to me when I asked him if I could get a cab. Other than that, everything was perfect!

This is a luxury hotel, beautiful room with comfortable furnishings & balcony, convenient to downtown shopping mall and public transportation. Price is competitive to surrounding hotels with fewer ambiances. Note that if you book thru Hotels.com, the Westgate hotel has additional charge for “necessities” such as the in-room coffee, water, and wi-fi […] at about $20 per day. Lisez la suite

I reserved this hotel because i was hosting a bachelorette party and the location was perfect. We were able to walk to most bars. And the cab rides were only $11 at the most from the hotel as far as Old Town San Diego. The staff was very helpful. Plenty of restaurants and mall right on the same block. We would definitely stay here again.

Excellent location and facility but quiet with concierge services ending at 5:30, too early for me when we want to find restaurants and entertainment.

the hotel was nice and in a good location. the room was nice. the bed was not very comfortable and the vallet couldn't find my keys. overall it was a good stay and close to everything.

I would go back to San Diego just to stay at the Westgate. Undoubtedly the most fabulous experience to be pamered, they get the elevator for y, they buy gifts for you, they talk to you, as if you really mattered! I was there for surgery, and used room service, which was extraordinary, and so was the mail service, the bar service, everything was tasteful. […] classy, old world civility at last. Lisez la suite
