Wonderful and very helpful staff!

If you are looking for a hotel in the center of old downtown Binghamton, then this is an ideal choice for you. It is less than a stone's throw from the courthouse. I'm sure there are a lot of people who will bust on this place (I read some before I booked). However, it was clean, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel for someone considering […] staying near downtown. It is true that my room was in need of cosmetic repairs here and there. The bed was acceptable, but the mattress was not up the standards of a good business hotel. The only really notable positive thing in the room was the 20 foot tall ceiling. The lobby, bar and breakfast areas reflect the historic character of this building. For me, this made the hotel a good value for the $110 I paid. Take a look at the lobby photos and if you are not interested, then you probably won't agree with my rating. For some reason, this area is more expensive than the national average when it comes to hotels. A decent business hotel in this area will cost you $20 more and will not have any pleasant surprises for you. The continental breakfast is nothing special, but is better than a sharp stick in the eye. They did have plenty of fresh cookies out late at night (don't tell anyone, but my wife and I downed 3 each). One note - when the numerous bars close at 3 AM on the weekend, the the streets around this hotel fill screaming asshats. I've never seen or heard anything like it, even in college. When I first woke up and opened the curtains, I expected to bear personal witness to the rise of the planet of the apes. For me, this was another quirk of the hotel I could take in as an anthropological case study. Other people would be less tolerant and should avoid this area. Lisez la suite

Nice hotel built in the 1890's. Has charm and historical aura. Staff is friendly and rooms are spacious, unique and clean.

this hotel is perfect for one or two nights, the rooms were small but clean. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. It was perfect for a hockey game, it is walking distance to the arena and local bars and resturants. If you are not interested in hanging out with college students pick a time when school is out!

Stayed to see the Binghamton Senators. Walking distance to Broome County Arena with numerous eating options in the area. Staff was very friendly and stay was good. Building is the former municipal center and dates back over a hundred years. Quite nice inside lots to observe for anyone intersted in architecture. I would recommend a stay here!

I spent one evening at the Grand Royale and I'm very glad I did. It's got tons of old-world charm and all the comforts that a more modern facility offers. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the staff was very pleasant & helpful. My room was small but clean & cozy, The complimentary continental breakfast was good & generous and there was […] always fresh hot coffee available. They put out fresh cookies as well. It is old ( a landmark building!) and some of the furnishing are past their prime, but I was very comfortable there and enjoyed the atmosphere. I will return again and recommend the hotel for anyone visiting Binghamton or the area. It is true that the neighborhood is a little tawdry, but the parking was fine and I had no problem even on a Saturday evening when the area bars are likely to be full. Lisez la suite

I booked this hotel and was really looking forward to staying there However - the next day I was contacted and told that the hotel had "overbooked" and we had to scramble to find other accomodations. This was a major aggravation as it was also the family weekend at Binghamton and finding comparable lodging was difficult to say the least. Hotels.com […] and expedia.com agents were very helpful in this respect. The hotel did not update their web site and continued to accept reservations even after I was bumped. Lisez la suite

The picture is the back of the hotel, which is not used. The hotel was filthy. The first room we were given had not even been cleaned and the second room's lock and security latch were broken. We put our suitcases in front of the door. You get what you pay for in this case.

When we checked in at 4 pm & got our room key, we opened the door to find an unmade bed and dirty room. We returned to the front desk to tell them our room hadn't yet been made up and said we'd be back later. When we returned to our room at 10 pm, our key wouldn't work. Again returned to the front desk, they issued new keys. We opened the door to our […] room to find another occupant's belongings...they had given our room to another! Again to the front desk. They had no more rooms with 2 beds left at this point, so they gave us 2 different rooms with 1 bed each at no extra charge. The staff was very kind, courteous, apologetic, and fair yet the whole experience was a fiasco. The hotel is in a run-down part of town, with loud bars & rowdy patrons. Although the hotel is a vintage building, it's dark and tacky and more like a haunted house than a restored landmark. However, I can't say enough nice things about the staff, who bent over backwards with apologies and tried to be as accommodating as possible. I understand that the flooding in Binghamton has closed many hotels and the ones that are open have over-flow of re-bookings and flood victims. It was really hard to get a room for one night in Binghamton this past weekend, and now I know why this hotel was the only one with available rooms. hotel smells and didnt have a tv remote and 1/2 a roll of t.p. slummy part of town.

could be better kept up. very dirty windows

The hotel staff were nice, but the place is dingy so don't let the images on website fool you!! Rooms are also incredibly small (NYC style). I booked 3 nights and only stayed 1. Took a loss of $$ for the addition of comfort up in Ithaca instead.

the hotel was beautiful. we were in town on business and i saw the add on the hotel. the area we stayed in has every hotel/motel you could name. it was the most wonderful hotel i have every stayed in. if you are looking for a old world hotel, with all new upgrades this one is for you.can't wait to return some time soon. popcorn mike

A great hotel to stay in! Can't believe it is only rated a two star hotel. Love the old building, breakfast, friendly help and "cookies".

Had a fine stay at the Grand Royale last weekend. The property was unique, the staff was friendly and helpful and the price was right. However, the rooms were dated - poorly lit, wallpaper with holes in it and our bathroom in particular had a VERY loud fan in the bathroom. It sounded like a generator was powering the room.

Very problematic. State Street was closed upon our arrival, barring us from pulling up in front to check-in. I spoke with someone at the front desk earlier to notify them of our late arrival and nothing was mentioned about what to do or even of the closure. Our keys had to be re-programmed each night. I had such a great experience at the Grand Royale Hotel. The staff were amazingly accommodating!

The Grand Royale is one of the only buildings in Binghampton that really stands out. The inside is beautiful. The dining area is of particular note as well as the amazing staircase. For the prices the rooms are a steal. However, someone planning to stay there should keep in mind that it is an OLD hotel. WHile I was there the bar was in the process of […] being refurbished. The bathroom was small. And parts of the floor creaked. At the same time, if this is what you expect then this is a truly beautiful place to stay. Binghamptons many bars and a few restaraunts are right across the street, but weren't noisy as we had feared. Parking is also free and in a decent place. Lisez la suite

The hotel was very nice, the employees very friendly and the free breakfast was definitely sufficient. The hotel was also a short distance from the Broome County War Memorial. Roxx's bar, down ther street and around the corner was pleasant and had great food.

Grand Royale is a very nice, almost elegant hotel that is well-run, clean but a little worn. The big advantage here is its downtown location within walking distance of the arena and local bars and restaurants. Free parking in an adjacent parking garage was convenient. There are some renovations in the works on the main level. My room was very small […] but quite comfortable. One of the curtain rod holders was missing and a lightbulb in the lamp on the bedside table was burnt out, but there were no other problems. A nice, fairly basic continental breakfast was free to all guests in the gorgeous Royale Room. Lisez la suite

The hotel is in the old state building, across the street from the new one. As such, it retains the grand appeal of a once proud building. Plenty of wood paneling and marble elevate this above the average downtown hotel and certainly above the average in the area. It hasn't been kept up as wonderfully as one might hope and you will definitely see minor […] signs of disregard during your stay but in comparison to almost every other hotel in the area it is very nice. I would highly recommend it if you need to be in the area as it is conveniently in the middle of downtown Binghamton and as I have said, is one of the two nicest choices in the area. It is also a wonderful place to go if you are a history buff as the building drips with history and there are explanatory plaques strewn liberally about the building. For bonus points, you can see Berta, she works at the hotel, I don't know the precise description of her position but she can be found at almost any hour and is a real local history buff, willing to give you a tour of the building and some background of the local history at the drop of a hat. Rooms are too small and there is some smell. The view to the parking lot is not good.

以下の理由で他の人に勧めません。 （１）チェックインで割り当てられた部屋は空調がきかず部屋の変更をしてもらったが、その部屋はまだ掃除されておらず唖然とさせられた。 （２）再度部屋を変えてもらったが、深夜にこの部屋を割り当てられたという人に入ってこられた。 （３）チェックアウト時、（２）をフロントに告げたら、マネジャーと相談しホテルズ.com経由で何らかの返事をしますとの事だったが音沙汰なし。 （４）ロビーで食事をしていた従業員は、汚れた手のままタオルを運んでた。 （５）最初の部屋のカーテンは短冊状に裂けたまま。
