"Convenient Location"
Appreciated being so close to Union Station/Metro. Good pub for evening meals and cafe for breakfasts on site (and Tim Hortons across the road!). Service and cleanliness were excellent. Only difficulty was that I could hear every conversation clearly from the rooms next door and the hallways, but would stay here again because location and value for […] money made it a good choice. The stay was fine. It is a great location for downtown events.
"Very good value given the convenient location."
Hassle-Free. Next door neighbors alarm clock was going off at mid-night. I called the front desk and someone responded in less than 2-3 minutes. My room was quite small but it was very clean, there was an attempt to modernize it with some newer fixtures, etc. and they did a good job. Very good value.
"Walking distance to everywhere"
The only complaint that I really have is that we ordered 2 twin beds and got singles and the room was very congested. If you are closterphobic, this is not the hotel for you.
Note that the walls are very thin. The last night in the hotel was disrupted by a group of rowdy guests who stayed up all night, and partied along the hallway on the 12th floor and the suite in 1201. The duty manager did what was appropriate and called in the police to have them evicted from the hotel. But it was a little too late, as the party only […] left at 5am. Guests on the 12th floor didn't get any sleep that night. The saving grace was the convenient location of Strathcona. It's within walking distance to subway (use the subway link at the basement of Westin Royal York hotel to connect to Union station) on a bad weather day. There's also a Tim Hortons and convenience store across the street on York. Lisez la suite

The perfect location in downtown Toronto. Close to everything. As far as location and pricing goes, it cannot get better than this.
Although we found the room a little small it was adequate for our needs and in the exact area we needed to be. The price was right and we would stay at the Strathcona for convenience again.

"Comfortable, safe, convenient"
Great staff, meals on site, public transportation.Concierge was very helpful, the food at both the breakfast room and the pub was fine. We had only to walk a couple of blocks for public transportation.
One of two elevators did not work and the other didn't work well so had to take the stairs. Assigned me to a room that already had another guest. When I came back down and finally convinced them that someone elses was indeed in the room (which for some reason wasn't an easy sell) they decided to downgrade my room because the rooms of the type I signed […] up for were all filled. They were unable to reduce my price though. I would think the normal policy would be to upgrade your room not downgrade it. Bed was a brick. No cold water in the shower. Shower was extremely hot. No fitness center. Could work out next door for $10 which is far too much. Minor thing but they had me park in a public garage 3 blocks away when there was one next door. Internet access was $15 a day. Lisez la suite
Parking is an issue. Insufficient space to unload no more than two vehicles at a time. This issue stressed us when unloading , and more so when a third vehicle arrived not permitting me to remove my wheelchair eassily.. This situation can be VERY ANNOYING.. The hotel was clean, the beds and pillows were very comfortable although the room was somewhat […] small. It was inconvenient having only one elevator working especially in the morning when room service was` also utilizing the elevators to go to the laundry room. On the day of check out we waited for the elevator for at least fifteen minutes. Even then we were three and we were unable to enter at the same time, therefore we went separately. Lisez la suite

"Small rooms, great location"
This hotel is very centrally located between the downtown, financial district and near the CN Tower. Quick walk to most attractions, and safe neighborhood. The hotel itself is nothing to write home about. It is VERY small and the staff is not very helpful. We ended up having to book the "executive Queen" room which is bigger (and more expensive) than […] the standard room, but even THIS room was quite small. Just enough room for the bed and a small closet, and really no space to move around or really unpack. Also, room faced and looked into another building which made it very dark and feel even smaller. If you are looking for a space to crash and don't plan on being in your room other than to sleep, this is a relatively inexpensive hotel. Otherwise, would not recommend. Also, parking was painful to figure out as there is no parking on site. I overheard one of the front desk people giving good advice to another customer about "recommended cheaper parking lots" but when I asked the lady that I checked in with, she basically said it's all the same and just to go and park anywhere. We ended up parking a block away at the RBC center for $18 per 24hrs which was the best deal around. Lisez la suite
"Did not get what we paid for=disappointing night"
My boyfriend and I don't travel much and when we do, we like to treat ourselves to a nice room. So we saw an executive suite available at the Strathcona Hotel for a reasonable price and decided to book it. Once we went to check in, everything was fine until the front desk attendant excused herself to a phone call, where we could hear that someone was […] still in the room we had booked. She later went into a room to talk to her manager and came back to inform us that the people who had the executive suite last night were supposed to have checked out, but hadn't done so yet and left their luggage in the room but were nowhere to be found. So they gave us the initial option to either go and wait in a different suite (which was not the executive) that had two queen beds, and wait for the people currently in our booked executive suite to come back or just stay the night in that different suite and they would give us free breakfast and internet. Since there was another attraction we wanted to go to that closed at 5:00, we said that we'd go and come back and hopefully things would be straightened out. When we got back, the front desk clerk who had dealt with us earlier was not there, so we had to go through the whole ordeal again, figuring that the people did not check out. So the new front desk clerk went to the other room as well, and the person I perceive to be the manager came out and said the room is not available (which probably means the people who were supposed to leave just got to stay another night..and we just get moved around like it's no big deal). So instead we got a "suite" that has two queen beds (there's only two of us?!?!) and they still offered the free breakfast and free internet. My boyfriend and I are not breakfast people and we didn't bring a laptop so having free internet.. is useless for us. After some time explaining that there's no sense in giving us those free things, the manager says he'll bring some free wine to our room in about 10-15 minutes ins Lisez la suite

"Near the Union Station"
Good hotel near the main train/subway station of Toronto. When I stayed there It had a Portuguese concierge, which helped a lot because I am brazilian.
"Strathcona, Toronto ON: shoeboxes"
I've paid a premium to upgrade from 2 twin beds to a "large" bed. Finally, it was a regular bed but the room was already full given its size. No light as the "windows" were showing only the bottom of a dark pit. More, this very same bed was uncomfortable and creaking... Definitely, avoid this hotel.
"Strathcona Hotel-fantastic service, great location"
We were really pleased with the service of the two girls on front desk both at check in and check out! Very friendly, and went above and beyond in my eyes to make us comfortable. We asked for a crib for my daughter and they brought it up right away and helped up set it all up. The hotel was very clean and modern, and the location couldn't be beat. The […] only downfall is that the rooms were very small, but since we only needed a place to sleep, it was perfect for us. Thank you for all your hard work. We will be back! Lisez la suite
"Good location, poor details."
Great central location but....Small room. Small beds. Bad temperature control. Window doesn't keep out any sound. Big struggle with stuck shower tap. No chair&desk in room.
"Construction"
Elevators were being renovated ,so there was quite a lot of noise in our room lots of hammerdrill noise! But it was the location and price we were looking for.

"4 Night stay"
Visiting Toronto for the first time and booked a standard queen room. Concierge and front desk very helpful and efficient. Cleanliness of room was fine, accept previous comments that the rooms are a bit small, but are very good value for what you pay for in central Toronto. The comments previously posted about the maintenance on the lifts are correct, […] the one working lift does seem to have a mind of its own and we had to use the stairs twice during our trip to get to the 8th floor, but in the hotels defence, we did see workmen in action on the other lift they are renovating, so I'm sure this will be rectified soon. Overall, really good value for money, if you want more space, consider a suite, but don't consider somewhere else if you want good service. Will stop here again when I return next time. "Not bad"
I attended Canadian Music Week and this hotel was a cheaper alternative to the Royal York across the street. The hotel is pretty clean and staff was nice. The room was small but that was all I needed. The only downside was that there was no minifridge and they didn't supply a bar of soap for the shower. Just a heads up, the walls are a bit on the […] thin side so you may want to bring ear plugs incase the neighbours are loud. Lisez la suite
"Great Location, very clean"
I stayed one night. The Hotel was very clean and the location was great. Only downside was getting woken up by room service, who burst into my room; however, in their defense it was after 9am..
