I took my fiancee to stay at Hotel del Coronado as part of celebrating her birthday. It was great stay. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful. The only part that could have been better was that we stayed in the newer 7-story annex. Great ocean views but lacks hospitality which is not what you expect for a "resort" experience.

This hotel is beautifully located and beautiful to look at but I think that is something that the staff are relying on as they are not very good at their jobs!! Our room was small, smelt funky and the internet did not work. The staff could not be trusted to do anything they were asked to do. An example of this was were a pull out cot had been left on […] our balcony. I asked for it to be moved when we got to our room. I was still there when we came back from dinner later that evening. They were asked again twice and eventually it was moved the next day. They told us the internet would be fixed within an hour or so of check in but when I spoke to the teck support company they said a fault had not even been reported by the hotel. There is also a resort fee charged per day payable at the hotel which is not mentioned until you check in. For $25.00 per day you get internet that does not work, two small bottles of water and two coffee pods for the coffee machine.. My advice is to check in to the cheaper hotel across the street and use the beach at the Hotel Del. Most of the people we met there were not staying! They just came to see a bit of over priced history and stayed elsewhere! On the upside McP's Irish bar down Orange Avenue a couple of hundred yards serve great food and is everything good in an Irish American bar and the Island itself is worth seeing!! Lisez la suite

Hotel Coronado is an icon and truly lives up to it's reputation. The service is impeccable. We celebrated our 40th anniversary there and the staff bent over backwards to make it special. The beach is beautiful and the hotel grounds impeccably kept up. Nice OLD hotel. Beautiful grounds and surroundings. Not pleased about pricey parking fee and additional substantial "resort" fee. Upon checking out I asked about the "resort" fee and I was told it was for in-room coffee, a bottle of water and WiFi availability. Because of the age of the building the rooms were noisy.

Amazing views, friendly staff. I checked in on Thursday September 8th 2011, around 4pm SoCAL experienced a rolling blackout. Hotel Del went above and beyond to provide guest with comp food and drinks from thursday night until Saturday morning.

Way too expensive for what you get: hard bed, no counter space in bathroom, small rooms, very expensive food ($76.50 for one adult for a Sunday brunch), they charge a $25 dollar resort fee per day, $25 parking fee per day, our in- room movie rental was $20. This hotel is of a high standard in terms of accommodation and facilities. Worth the upgrade to an ocean view room for the outlook . Service and staff helpfulness left a little to be desired. It was a very busy place and staff seemed rather distracted at times.

We love the Del Coronado for so many reasons: its location on the beach, its history and its wonderful service. However, the hotel is looking a little shabby, It might be time to update the carpeting and do some touch ups here and there. 1. I have requested a room with pool view and didn't get it. 2. There were no water & coffee which are included in the $25 per day charge. 3. Asked for sewing kit & baby crib...baby crib came over 2 hours later & had to walk all the way down to the lobby to get the sewing kit that I needed. 4. The barely existent closet is in the small bathroom. Nowhere - no drawers - to put your clothes. Walls are paper thin and you can hear even soft conversations next door. Over-priced!!!

Nice hotel with 'old world charm' but one of our rooms viewed the red roof: for $$! Plus all the $ add ons from parking [self-parking often full] to daily 'room fee'.

Great beach location and fun, hip neighborhood. Great restaurants nearby, but valet is slow, and valet staff not as well-trained as rest of staff. One valet attendant, after forgetting to retrieve my vehicle, actually asked me to call the valet desk again for him. Traffic can get congested in the area. Best to park car and leave it.

Our room was so small it barely had a window. The resort was over run with people not paying to stay at the Hotel. Service was non existent.

We stayed in the old Part with a Big balcony and a Large Room, but the bathroom was Small. We had garet to Day there

We arrived late and the off duty valet still helped us to the front desk; we were upgraded to a suite in the Ocean Tower building with a full view of the ocean. The Del is one of the finest hotels in the country. Beautiful location right on the beach and classic elegance with all the modern amenities. Can't be beat. Will be back next summer.

When we were leaving the driveway of the hotel after a 3-day family weekend my wife said, "What a great weekend." My four-year-old son's immediate comment, "You can say that again!

We were upgraded to a gorgeous suite overlooking the ocean because there was a conference in the hotel and we had to be shifted from our original room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Just a couple of suggestions: 1- It would be great if the hotel staff would carry the beach chairs to the beach for you 2- It would be great if the hotel staff would […] take orders (drinks/eats) from patrons at the beach, instead of having to order from the sun deck and carry over to the beach 3- The adult pool is only open during summer season, so we had to share the pool w/ children and it was somewhat noisy. Just back from a great 3 nights at this 'destination' hotel. Very busy with weddings and conferences but still an excellent stay. Take note that the signature restaurants are closed Sun+Mon :-(

My wife and I live in San Diego and try to get to The Del at least three times a year for a local vacation. We went on Saturday and enjoyed a relaxing day on the beach followed by an excellent dinner at the 1500 Ocean restaurant. Fantastic!

This old Victorian hotel is a must see, especially for those who appreciate historic structures. It is magnificent.

It was pretty pricy but this historic hotel spares no expense to give you a great ocean side get a way.

Stayed here with my family over the Memorial Day weekend. We stayed in the main victorian building and loved every minute of our stay. The style of the room was historic and victorian, but also had a modern bathroom, flat screen TV and internet access. The food at all of the hotel restaurants is great, we tried them all. The only negative part of the […] experience for me was discovering on my bill at check-out that if you charge your meals or any services to your room (like bike rental) you get charged an additional 'resort fee' on top of the food or service bill. Have wanted to stay here for years and finally got around to the visit. It was great; wonderful atmosphere and grounds. Beach views are fine. We stayed in the newer "tower" so I don't know what the original rooms are like, but the common areas and grounds are well maintained and the tower room was re-done and nice with a lovely view. The hotel and the grounds far exceeded our expectations! We especially enjoyed walking in and around the hotel which held so much history. A walk on the beach and lunch on the veranda was especially nice. If you're looking for a 5-star restaurant, the hotel restaurant, "1500 Ocean" is a must! It wasn't just a meal, it was a dining experience!

My partner and infant daughter stayed there in April 2011. It is a rip off. It's a former grand hotel that is now squeezing their customers for every last penny. The only good things are: wonderful beach front location and a historic building (thin walls and 5+ minutes for hot water is also a benefit of "classic"). Everything else is bad. Massively […] overpriced food and drink (we're willing and able to pay but this was bordering on price gouging), not enough staff, sun deck area was always full of abandoned tables with rubbish left out... Our room had a view of the car park and was next to what appeared to be the make shift AV storage room of the hotel. Shuttle from airport to hotel is more expensive than a cab. Hotel seemed 100% oriented to big corporate events with individual holiday makers left neglected. There was no changing room near the pool. No room with all the cabanas around the pool. Tried to call the front desk and got an automated system. Seriously. Stay somewhere else and go for a drink or dinner. Actually the dinner at Shearwater was okay although overpriced. Lisez la suite

First room we were assigned was never cleaned. It still had beer bottles on dresser and dirty towels on bath floor. We were moved to another room. Found out at check out; that the additional Hotel fee was for 2 complimentary bottles of water that was not included in the room. The Hotel is spectacular but the service was horrible. Not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel at all. My bad service experience was primarily in the restaurant. I found a hair in my hamburger, I call the manager over. He was apologetic and offered to get me something else.
