"Great location but hotel pictures abit deceiving"
It was nicely located and great location to walk around the centre of Nice, close to various buses. The breakfast was really good with a variety of selection. On the down side, the pictures were quite deceiving. Rooms looked nice but in reality old and small. The staff could do better with their service,. On our first 2 nights, the air conditioner […] broke and they were totally unhelpful, you would think they would be extremely apologetic but after much complaints we got a fan to use for the night! All in all we had a nice time in Nice and without the air conditioning breaking, the hotel isn't too bad Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia
Americans, Late 20s. Excellent location for sight seeing in Nice, easy access to the beach to rent bikes or walk along the promenade. Very close to Old town and the best spots to eat, drink and shop. Right near Massena Square. Would stay here again!Avis certifié Hotels.com
"an excellent choice for everything"
clean room, great service, they could not have been more helpful. The location was excellent, easy walk to beach that provided all services needed, stores, shopping, market and easy bus ride to airport. I would stay here over many other hotels in the area.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Too noisy after midnight"
Second stay at Messena. It will be the last. Karoake across the street into the very small hours on Friday and Saturday, made the stay unpleasant. The room itself was so basic, like a two star hotel. Breakfast needs some redesign, it was almost a bun fight. Staff were charming and called the police to address the nighttime revelrie, but to no avail. […] Avoid! "Central but noisy location in downtown Nice"
This hotel is one that has been used by our tour company (although we booked it directly). The staff was very helpful when we had a problem contacting our rental car agency and with parking our rental. The location is within walking distance to most of the areas of the city, including the beach. Our room was large and comfortable but we were unable […] to get A/C to work. A staff member said that a previous guest had probably switched the system to heat. We were on the first floor facing the street on a Saturday night and heard a lot of noise way into the night. We advise asking for a room on an upper level, especially if you are staying on a weekend. The included breakfast was average. As with many older hotels, electric outlets for charging our devices were scarce. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Great location & lovely staff"
We have been visiting Nice in May for a good few years now , and we always stay at the Massena The hotel has a great location near the old town and close to the promenade d ' Anglais . Service & cleanliness are excellent ,with staff always willing to help . Rooms are not the most modern but this hotel has character and the morning view from the rooftop […] terrace is a, wow I love it here feeling . Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Excellent location and friendly, helpful staff"
We enjoyed this hotel because of its central location and friendly, helpful staff. The rooms were nicely sized but could have been cleaner. I would definitely return and recommend to others.Avis certifié Expedia
"Rooms let it down"
The public areas of the hotel are nice (maybe 4 star if being very generous), but the rooms really let it down. Very basic. Clean, but very basic.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"fantastic room/location snoby staff"
Location and room are fantastic. Modern room, clean, and spacious. Location is central and close to the square, amazing church and lot's of shopping and places to eat. The breakfast was also very good. The front lobby staff were not helpful and very short (we don't ask for much but a simple smile and something more than yes or no can go a long way). […] I recommend this hotel. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Centrally located in Nice"
Beautiful public rooms. Paid $200/night for 2 people, no breakfast. Have stayed at far more luxurious properties for this amount; however, Nice is expensive. Lovely public rooms and lobby and staff was helpful. Room, however, was pretty small and basic. Functional but no real charm. Excellent location, just a short walk to Old Town and the waterAvis certifié Expedia

"Staff Makes A Difference"
Hotel itself needs a remodel, but, the staff is marvelous.Avis certifié Hotels.com
This hotel was perfect, it was in a perfect location to the shopping, old town, promenade and daily market. We were upgrade at check in and the room was fine, there are much nicer rooms but this was a good value. If you take a left out of the hotel, there is a bakery just down and across the street with fresh bread etc. the action is to the right so […] we didn't discover this till the end of our stay. The staff helped us get to Monaco and got us a lovely car to the airport. We never took the local tram or buses but they are very near hotel Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Great location, comfortable, not fancy"
this hotel is rated 4 stars - not sure on what planet?? It is fabulously located a hop skip and jump from Place Massena and great restaurants and shopping. The rooms are not fancy but they are clean. A good 3 star hotel - staff was lovely - enjoyed my stay but not 4 stars.Avis certifié Expedia
"Excellent value for money"
Excellent location so close to the old town, the beach, the main shopping area . Only 15 minute walk to the main train station and 5 minutes to tram and bus routesAvis certifié Expedia
The hotel had a superb location: short walk to everywhere, and the bus to Matisse and Chagall museums just round the corner. Our room was small, but comfortable, and we actually learned to love it during our 3-night stay (I was travelling with my 13-year old daughter). The breakfast was very good with a lot of choice and fresh fruit.Avis certifié Expedia
"Lovely hotel, very well sited"
Lovely hotel, very well sited, on main shopping street only one block from Lafayette on Massena square. Handy for old town and Albert 1st gardens (closed for major renovation April 2013) Was upgraded to privilege room (415 on corner of building) Very spacious and characterful. There was a little noise in the early hours from revellers passing, but we […] could have closed the windows! Immaculate decoration, well maintained, modern decoration. The breakfast buffet was a little limited, inasmuch as the only hot food was scrambled egg, and little red sausages. The cold hams, cheeses and pastries, however, were superb, as was the coffee and juice. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia
"Value for money"
The Hotel Massena is in an excellent location in Nice for exploring the lovely quaint streets. Reception service was first class the staff were very informative on all bus routes and had a very good list of restaurants for us to try which everyone was first class.. Towels were changed regularly and the room kept clean. A little noise in the early hours […] from a club up the road but we would still go back. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia
"Not as we expected"
The hotel has a nice appearance, and I feel that I was given one of the older rooms. Unfortunately the reception staff were rude to us upon arrival and not helpful at all, it appeared that they were not wanting to welcoming us. The room was extremely small, and unfortunately badly lit with outside light, which made it very dull and depressing to sit […] in, night or day. The bathroom was rather pleasant however, it was big and well lit, with flooding of natural light. However, the tap when running had a really bad smell to it, and every time the tap was turned on, the smell returned. The room had a musty smell and this was present all day especially when the heating was turned on, which could not be adjusted it appeared, and although the hotel was very hot, the heating was on and as such cool air was not available on the air conditioning. Upon check out the reception staff were rude to us, and did not ask us about the stay, in fact they began to check us out on another persons room, and although I was trying to explain this to them, they appeared preoccupied to help us, yet they were supposed to be checking us out. I would not stay at this hotel again, yet I imagine many of the rooms would be in a better position and have more light and not smell. However, the beds were also uncomfortable and I felt that with the reception staff not being too welcoming I would not feel comfortable to raise any concerns, which is mainly why I did not raise any concerns throughout the stay. "Good location for Nice"
Room comfortable and clean although a little hot as the air conditioning had been switched to "heat only". Bar not fully stocked - one eveing they had no red wine (in a hotel in France). Hotel in a good location for transport, restaurants and nightlife.Avis certifié Expedia
It was really great! Our first room for two was a bit small but very cozy. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Love the location.... "Needs a lot of improvements but not a bad Hotel"
The Massena is located in a very convenient location to the Tram and many attractions in Nice. The Staff I would rate as fair. The room I had at first was okay but we paid extra which makes this hotel way overpriced for the services they provide. I you are a single person in a double room they will only provide you with one towel, even though you paid […] for a double. I had to complain about the cleanliness of my room and maid service had to come back and clean. The WIFI in this hotel is a joke! Just no other way to put it. I think this could be a very nice hotel if the staff and management would put more care into staff training and make some needed improvements to the rooms. Very dated. With that being said, if you are looking for an average hotel for a high price for Nice, then the Massena is your place. After all the complaining the staff corrected some of the problems and did give us a free breakfast. Just make sure you DO NOT get the small tiny double, I have been informed that they do not advertise it as a double anymore and is now a single room.. But price is still too high for what you get. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Could be a good hotel"
Hotel Massena is over priced for what you get. You have to get one of the updated rooms. My friend who also had a room found hairs on his bathroom floor and his room was on the busy street and was very noisy. The hotel placed my Mother In Law in a small room that would barely qualify for a single room. You must insist on updated rooms and if you pay […] for a double insist on the double. Staff is somewhat helpful. The WIFI is the worst I have ever had in Europe. The Internet is free but you have to sit in a tiny booth on a wooden bench. Their services are fair. I would rate this hotel a 3 until some major changes are made. Also if you want air conditioning, open the window. We were told that they can only have heat or air at any single time. Really unusual. We wanted a hotel with Air conditioning.. but not the Messena..Needs improvement. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Great hotel and great location"
Great location, close to restaurants, old town, beach area and transit. Loved the boutique hotel atmosphere.Avis certifié Expedia
"A bad choice"
This one is past her prime. An old boutique/historic hotel seriously in need of work. The undulating floor throughout created an adventure course for us and our luggage. But the worst by far was the slamming of doors - you could hear everyone's coming and goings and that's not limited to external doors - the bathroom doors in the individual rooms could […] also be heard. However the bathroom themselves were of a decent standard. Attempts at decoration were meagre - the lovely half dozen original paintings in the foyer soon lost their appeal as they were replicated throughout with monotonous repetition (3 times from Reception to room). The restaurant offers very little in choice and the staff are at best, cold. Considering the money invested (we upgraded to a junior suite), the return was rather dismal. We had a very nice stay. Hotel is less than a 10min walk to the old city section and the beach. The bus station is less than 5min as well as the main plaza, where you can catch the tram. Shopping and restaurants/cafe are plentiful and close.Avis certifié Hotels.com

"In need of a make over."
The hotel lobby is very nice. the staff is great and can't do enough for you. The room was tiny, the bathroom was not good and it truly needed an update. It is however close to the water. Stay away from the hotel's recommendations on where to eat. The food was the most expensive I came across in France and wasn't as good as meals at half the cost. Better […] yet, don't go to Nice. It isn't nearly as nice as other cities in France. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia
Excellent location. Very clean. The cheap rooms are small.Avis certifié Expedia
The location of the hotel is very good - close to train station and restaurants. We had two large suitcases plus two medium backpacks with us - the room barely held us (2 adults). We would strongly suggest reserving an upgraded room (not a "standard" or "classic")!Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Great location in Downtown Nice"
We were upgraded to a nice room with a balcony although there was not much of a view. It is close to the plaza and walking distance to everything including the water. Nice place in Nice but we stayed at so many nice places during our journey. Definitely better to book through hotels.com then in personAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Ok hotel in good location"
The hotel was fine, nothing really special but nothing too bad either. Location is very good, it is clean and quiet despite being in the centre and facing a street (not too busy one though). Breakfast was good too, pretty standard continental fare. The room we were in was tiny and a bit tired, but we walked past a couple of other rooms and they were […] much bigger, so probably just poor luck. Parking is 30eur per night, which is a lot if staying for more than a night or two. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com

"Great location and helpful staff"
We stayed at Massena Hotel on our third visit to Nice and would highly recommend it for its location and helpful staff. It seems it is hard to find affordable and pleasant accommodation in Nice. We stayed at another hotel in Nice just the week prior which was only slightly less expensive than Massena but it was not nearly as comfortable and was not […] in the same great location as Massena. At Massena we were upgraded to a bigger room on arrival which was a good size and comfortable. We were very impressed with the service of the staff who spoke very good english and were happy to help with our airport transfer etc. Highly recommend!! Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia
"2 Stars but marked 4 stars"
The room is tiny, with just one bed which occupies 4/5 of the room, the bathroom is tiny, too; no hot water maker, internet connection is unstable (must relogin all the time). If one person sit in front of the desk, the other person cannot go through and has to go across over the bed. I happen to like hot tea. They said they can deliver hot water (of […] course you have tip them), but the water is warm to clod, can't make tea at all. The hotel marked as 4 stars, but 2 stars the most. I stayed in Nice two days ago in a 3 stars hotel, that one is much better than this 4 stars. The breakfast is 20 euro, not worth it. The location is relatively close to the beach (about 1000-2000 meters), but still not those beach hotels, which are right on the beach. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia

"A Modernized Gem"
There is a great deal to like about the Massena Hotel. The location is first-rate, very close to Nice's old town, close to the metro and around the corner from Gallerie Lafayette, the city's best department store. I arrived around 10am on a Sunday morning and the staff was very accommodating - they offered coffee and a place to sit in the lobby and […] made some helpful suggestions about nearby businesses that were open. I know Nice fairly well but was very happy with their recommendations and courtesy. The rooms are modest in size and well appointed. The breakfast served at the hotel (10 euros if you book it when you arrive, 20 euros if ordered day by day) is good and is served until 10am. The public spaces as well as the rooms have been very well maintained; they appear to be recently upgraded. Television service in the room is good with moderate sized flat screen TVs and plenty of outlets for recharging electronic devices. The only drawback with the hotel is the WiFi - it's free, but you have to sign in every 15 minutes which is extremely annoying. For me, that was bothersome enough to give me pause about returning as I use WiFi a lot when traveling for business. If that's not a major concern for you, this is a terrific spot with no other drawbacks. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia
great hotel with unique service in the heart of NiceAvis certifié Expedia
Good hotel, excellent location. Very friendly, polite and multi-lingual staff. Unique decor, very reminiscent of old hollywood and very modern. However there was a stale cigarette/musky smell in the corridor to the room. Didn't avail of the breakfast there so can't comment. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Room service was very enthuastic about […] knocking on our door at 9am both mornings; Which isn't great if you're looking for a lie-in on your holidays!! "Messena Hotel, Nice"
Disappointing for a 4 star. The style in hotel lobby is a bit confusing, the corridors to the rooms are very nice, but the standard room is very basic. MDF doors, small space, and desparately in need of a make-over. The location is great, but be careful if you take a car, its 30e a night to use the car park. Service was fine, but strangely for a hotel […] in the south of France, you can only buy wine by the bottle at the bar. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
