I couldn't get ice. I had to walk down stairs to bar to get it. only issue. otherwise clean and comfortable.

I chose the UMLI&CC on line based both on a review that listed it as a good alternate to facilities usually unavailable in Shrewsberry, thus redirecting me to the Lowell area, and as the Inn was overwhelmingly positively reviewed under its specific query. However if you have an event in Shrewsberry you may or may not want to look a little closer geographically, […] as my 20 mile estimate of the Inn from Shrewsberry was off by at least a factor of 2. My fail, especially as a NY’er. That clarified, I wasn't disappointed with the facility. It was clean, odor free, bright, and despite the contemporary styled lobby and restaurant architecture being somewhat austere, akin to that of a business environment, the Inn was full service, well appointed, and the staff was courteous and efficient. Our second floor room was large with high ceilings, attractively appointed, didn't suffer any noise disturbance (it was a low occupancy night), and the beds were very comfortable. And unlike the trend in the hospitality industry, thankfully the TV/cable was open access on the channels I tried (Sci-Fi), rather than pay per view, and I didn't see any porn being promoted (I didn't search, it may be there). Other than some black stains on 1% of the grout of the shower/bath tile walls, the 1970's style bathroom was perfect in appearance, functionality, and cleanliness. Note, the third through seventh floors are student dorms accessed by a separate adjacent entry at the lobby, thus minimizing contact with students other than those that stand outside to smoke. But our best experience at the Inn was breakfast the next morning. We ordered a vegetable stuffed omlette that was incredibly light, fluffy, and tasty. It wasn't saturated with oil, and the asparagus tips, fresh diced tomatoes, and sliced mushroom were recognizable both palatably and visually. The staff was very nice. The shower REALLY needs to be refurbished. Many brown & black spots in grout and in corners. Mold? The walls are paper thin. I could hear EVERYTHING in the rooms next to me, and in the hallway. For the price, it was a decent value.

The closeness to downtown Lowell was great, the rooms very clean and confy, so were the beds. The only negative point was the noise due to the very thin walls.

it was close to theaters and UMass. Can walk downtown very easily there was some construction nearby

Umass Lowell Inn is beautiful and well maintained and the service was good. However, since the hotel is owned by Umass there were a lot of college kids hanging around outside and they made alot of noise. In addition, on Sun morning at 2:30am college kids coming back from local clubs were running up and down the hall ways, we could hear them through […] the walls and made it really uncomfortable til 4am. The hotel did not do anything to address the disturbance. Though the price was good I would not stay there again. Lisez la suite

this hotel was very nice, simple and basic. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The resturaunt was very good, prompt and accurate. I will stay at this hotel again when I am in Lowell.

The rooms here are very spacious with a great view of the canal. The staff is curtious and the hotel restaurant has great food.

We were very satisfied with our stay at this hotel. The staff was helpful in helping us find places in town. Lobby and room was clean and well maintained. My only complaint was that the bathroom was a little tight and there was only 1 hook for towels. The room however was roomy enough and the bed was very comfortable. My husband and I stayed at the […] hotel while we dropped our daughter off for an overnight visit at UMASS-Lowell. Although the hotel was on campus the traffic circle it was located on was a little confusing to navigate around, but once you figured out how to get in & out of it it was conveniently located. If our daughter decides to attend UMASS-Lowell we would definitely stay here again. Lisez la suite

Hotel was convenient and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, there were some other rather loud guests who disrupted our sleep, this is not the fault of the hotel.

The staff seemed to have read a book on how to be a hotel employee as opposed to really understanding how to do the job. (I assume this facility is used as training for UMass hospitality students.) Although I had reservations and didn't arrive until early evening, our room wasn't ready until about 45 minutes after arrival. Furthermore, there was absolutely […] no place to park while attempting to check in. The check-out process was also very slow; after going through the "normal" check-out process, it took about 5 minutes just to have the desk clerk make a copy of the bill. There were times when no one was manning the front desk. The entire facility was non-smoking, yet we constantly smelled smoke through the ventilation system and noticed cigarette butts in the stairwells. Two of the elevator doors had a habit of not opening, thus temporarily stranding the occupant. The room itself lacked the comforts of most hotels of this price range. There was no coffee maker, no cable TV, a lamp with a burned out bulb, and a rickety old irony board that looked like it had been rescued from a dump. The AC also didn’t adjust well. The noise level was also unacceptable at times. We were awakened 3 or 4 times between midnight and 3 A.M. by someone loudly running back and forth in the room above us. There was also another sleep-disrupting incident caused by several people getting off the elevator in the middle of the night and loudly talking/laughing for several minutes right by our room. The hotel staff obviously didn’t do a very good job of making certain the faculty was smoke-free and quiet during what should have been quiet times. It was not a pleasant stay. Lisez la suite

Centrally located and convenient to downtown Lowell. I was doing as how at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium and it was right there! Walk to downtown to eat in this charming old mill town. One of the main drawbacks was there was no coffee maker in the room, making you go to the lobby for coffee. Nice place. Nice price on Hotels.com

nice conference hotel in a quaint university town atmosphere. Very nice accomodations! Most most comfortable beds. The front desk staff were very helpful and courteous. Will definitely recomment this hotel. Although a little tricky getting out of town as most streets are one way. Nice hotel right on a canal in downtown Lowell. Our room overlooked one of the canal locks. Great location for visiting Lowell National Historical Park. Don't miss Boott Mills - great museum! Staff was very helpful here too.

The major problems I had were a collection on miniscule annoyances. a broken elevator, broken and empty soda/candy machine. no back entrance when locked. Also the staff themselves were not as helpful as I expected. when I went to do laundry there were no laundry soap machines and the front desk did not have this or many of the other items I would expect. […] also no change machine. I had to buy a whole bottle of laundry soap to do one load and I had to get my change from the bank. On top of this, the website said they had HBO when in fact they had very few cable channels that were not very good. other than these mild discomforts, the beds were extremely comfortable and I was satisfied with that. We had just arrived from Boston so we chose this hotel because it was cheap and rather convenient on our way to Portland. Actually, the room was comfortable and spacious, the beds were great ! The staff was very kind and although there was a restaurant on the site, they also gave us the locations of two restaurants. We chose Cobblestones in the walking […] area and it was awesome. We had booked two double beds, and upon arrival were informed that the hotel had overbooked. The only thing available were three singles which were bunk beds! The room had no tv and was quite small.

Ok had a situation with housekeeping...Let's say it involved Local authorities and items missing from room. It's sad because the hotel itself was very nice and centrally located. Local eatery Cobblestone's was AWESOME..... Hotel Management was very helpful in rectifying the situation as was the local authorities. Great price for the hotel!

The hotel was very quiet in mid July. There appeared to be a freshman orientation program in part of the building, but if I hadn't seen the students in the hallway outside the conference rooms I would never have known they were there. The front desk and restaurant staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The first room I was assigned to overlooked […] the canal, but reeked of what seemed to be cat pee. The staff transferred me to another room on the opposite side of the hallway further down and that was much better, although for some reason the beds were missing their headboards. This was the cheapest reasonably well rated hotel I could find in or near Lowell, and I guess I got what I paid for. The front lobby and restaurant have obviously been recently renovated (as pointed out in other reviews) but the rest of the hotel has not been renovated to the same standard - just touched up. There WAS free breakfast provided - coffee, bagels, muffins etc - as well as a full cooked breakfast available in the restaurant if you wanted it. (The reviewers who say it wasn't must have been there during the renovations.) The restaurant looked promising, but was very disappointing. The 'fresh baked' dessert I ordered one night appeared to be bought-in and had not even been reheated properly as the middle was cold. The pasta with pesto sauce was swimming in olive oil. There are some good restaurants in Lowell - get away from the hotel and find them! If you are staying at the hotel and have to park in the garage because there isn't enough space in the hotel lot (which is quite small) make sure to get your parking validated. If you are attending a conference at the hotel but not staying there they will NOT validate your parking. Lisez la suite

I stayed here regularly when it was a Doubletree. The University has done a face lift on the common areas and I was impressed.

Rooms were clean and comfy, service was good, staff was exceptionally helpful and accomodatng. 2 block walk to downtown. Couldn't ask for more and at an excellent price. Highly recommend!

This hotel is used as a dorm during the school year, but is a hotel at other times. We had two rooms, one of which was not made up, but they immediately got us another room. Hotel staff was very courteous and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

The beds were very comfortable, the staff was amazing! I will definitely recommend ths hotel. Even though it is rated 2 1/2 stars,, I have stayed at 4 stars that haven't been this nice!

We were there for two nights P- very clean, non smoking area, without outside noise N- there is no breakfast and swimming pool. The walls are so tiny and I feel there is no noise isolation

have a full breakfast at the UMASS Lowell Inn and Conference center or complementary muffins and coffee. though the Inn was full of College students for a conference all was quiet and comfortable - as if I were the only guest.

This was a decent hotel when the Double Tree folks had the property. Now it is anything but. We stayed two nights and never had housekeeping services--unless we called the front desk to complain. The furnishings are soiled, worn and barren. The staff, while friendly, simply cannot provide a quality product to the guest. My suggestion to them: stay a […] dormatory and forget trying to have paying guests. If I wanted to be housed in a dormatory or youth hostel I would have searched one out. On a par with many of the better chains for mid-priced accomodations. Apparently has recently undergone major renovations, beds were very comfortable. Some renovations were still going on at the front desk, but staff was making the best of it. Only niggle was scarcity of ice machines, and the couple that were available were broken!
