"Comfortable room with a great location."
Small but cozy room with a very comfortable bed. The hotel is well situated and staff was friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to say at the Chancellor Hotel again.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Good value and great location"
Very good value for the money and perfect location as base to visit San Francisco. Staff friendly. Only downside was the room got a little hot. I would definitely recommend it.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Little gem in the heart of SF"
Everyone behind the front desk was so friendly! You can't beat the location and there are many delicious restaurants in walking distance. The room was very clean and cozy and I loved the pillow menu! I am so happy I found this little gem and I would 100 percent stay here again. Only con I can think of is it takes about 20 minutes to get your car from […] valet so order it from your room before you check out :) oh and the coupons for 2 for 1 drinks from the bar was amazing and the cherry on top of our stay! "San Fran getaway!"
We enjoyed our stay so much we tried to stay a second night. But unfortunately no availability. If and when I find myself in SF again I will definetly stay at the Chancellor. The staff could not have been more accommodating. Thank you.SAvis certifié Hotels.com
Bed was comfortable and clean. I wanted to stay another night but the hotel was all booked up. I liked the complimentary cucumber water that was served. Did not attend the restaurant or bar. Looked appealing though.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"San Francisco gem"
Cool old hotel in great condition and friendly helpful staffAvis certifié Hotels.com
Very attentive and thoughtful staff. I went there for my anniversary and they surprised us with a lovely note with sweets & wine in the room. The room was a bit stuffy with the windows closed, so we had to leave the windows open. Very convenient to travel to bart, cable car and various muni stops.Avis certifié Hotels.com
Great hotel. Staff was great! Perfectly located in the city center. The room was rather small, but who cares - you are only going to sleep there!Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Nice Hotel with not too expensive price"
Room is very clean. And it just one block from Union Square.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Great spot, comfy beds, but ..."
The bed was the best thing about the room very comfortable. I totally crashed even with the air conditioning units cycling outside our window. The carpets were clean however the bathroom was a bit dirty in the corners, tub and other finishes are a bit worn and it needed some maintenance (leaky drain under the sink), and the closet smelled of mold, which […] I'm allergic to. "A fun night in SF"
My friend and I were going dancing in SF, so instead of worrying about driving home, I booked a room at The Chancellor. For the rate I got, this hotel was a lot nicer than any of the others. And plus, it was in a great location; about 100ft from Union Square. Parking, shopping, restaurants, nightclubs... all just steps away from the hotel! The only […] drawback is, the hotel is really old. The furnishings, carpets and amenities are up-to-date, but I found that the electrical and heating are a bit dated. When I woke in the morning, I tried turning on the heater, but learned that the hotel boiler was not on, but a portable space heater was in the closet. So I plugged it in, turned it on, and within minutes it was putting out lots of heat. Too much actually, for soon after, the power in my room cut out. I called the front desk, and within 10 minutes a maintenance man was at my door. I told him what happened, and had the power restored in less than 5 minutes. To make sure that didn't happen again, I simply reduced the heat setting on the space heater. Lesson learned, and no big deal. Other than that, everything was great! Free cookies and fruit at the front desk all day, comfortable bed, excellent location, and great service. But I still had to only give it a 3 overall, simply because space was a bit cramped everywhere, and the heating and electrical systems, like the building itself, were dated. However, I still recommend it, and I'd be happy to stay there again. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Good hotel in a good location but small rooms"
Good hotel in great location but a it's an old building with small roomsAvis certifié Hotels.com
The hotel needs a cosmetic touch up and has no tea and coffee amenities. However the staff are great and the location is fantastic, very central.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"happy new year"
It was a new years eve stay But had party at another place,AREA WAS GREAT BUT THE ROOM WAS HARD TO HEAT UP. HEATERS WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND I HAD TO ASK TWO PORTABLE HEATERS TO WARM UP THE ROOM. Be aware of vale parking charges! But his i SF.))Avis certifié Hotels.com
The staff at the hotel and its restaurant, Luque, are the best. They are helpful, friendly, and very accommodating. The hotel is very close to Union Square, which makes it a perfect location to travel to other neighborhoods in the city. The rooms are small but workable.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Great stay and true value for money"
Excellent stay and service couldn't be faulted. Very prompt and responsive. I always felt welcomed by all the staff. The bathrooms might be tiny but it is a historic hotel and needs were probably very different back then. Location wise, it is right smack in Union Square across the street from Saks Fifth Avenue and the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. It's […] diagonal to the Marriott and one block away from the Westin St Francis - it would be difficult to find more prestigious neighbours. There were always complimentary cookies and hot drinks available in the lobby and the fruit infused ice water was lovely. I would be happy to stay here again for my next trip to San Francisco. "Great hotel in an outstanding area."
This is my second stay at this hotel. Great place. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was very nice. The bed was extremely comfortable. The location is right next to Union Square so there are a hundred places to walk to. The Powell St BART station is a ten minute walk. If you are visiting San Francisco and want to stay downtown/Union […] Square, this is one of the best places that you can choose. I will definitely stay here again. "A well-located bargain!"
This was a weekend getaway to meet family and friends. The Chancellor is my Hotel of choice in the city, primarily because of its location. I have come here every year for the last 10 years or so and it feels like home. The rooms are small (200 sf) but clean and well-maintained and but there's free wi fi, 24 hour coffee/tea, cookies and apples in the […] lobby, free paper, and friendly staff. I have stayed at the Westin St. Francis where there is no free wi fi and the price is double that of Chancellor. Its location on Powell is exceptional--right in Union Square, but away from the frenzy of lower Powell near Market. I'm already planning my 2015 trip. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com
"Very nice hotel n staff"
4 days stay and staff were all helpful, very comfortable bed...Avis certifié Hotels.com
Perfect location, got coupons for the lobby bar. Parking garage was close. Room was tiny but perfect for my needs. A bit noisy as I was facing Powell and could hear car alarms go off, but not a huge deal.Avis certifié Hotels.com

"Nice Hotel - Good Value"
I just needed a room for an overnight business trip and the Chancellor Hotel was just fine for that. The room was clean and well appointed and I appreciated the free Wifi. The bathroom was a little small and old, but the water pressure was good, and the towels fresh. Because I was meeting other people for meals and meetings in another part of town, […] I did not take advantage of any of the other hotel amenities. I'm not a huge fan the Union Square area but have no complaints at all about the hotel. I would recommend it if you need a good room at a reasonable price. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Hotels.com

"great location , clean room and nice staff."
Pleasant stay at this hotel. Great location, near shopping malls and right next to the central. Easy to go around by foot. Clean room, just that there isn't any aircon in the room. Overall good stay. Would recommend for anyone looking for a place to stay that near the city.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Chancellor Hotel a winner!"
It was very nice. Our room had a view of Union Square and very convenient location. I love older Hotels because they have so much character! I would definitely stay there again.Avis certifié Hotels.com
"Great staff, great location!"
Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Charming boutique hotel in great location. Has a European feel to it. Higher rooms facing Powell Street have view of Union Square. Would have preferred king sized bed but slept soundly on their queen (2 twins also available). No A/C. Complemenatary coffee, tea, lemmon ice water, cookies and fruit available in […] lobby. Hotel has a small bar (w/complementary popcorn) and a restaurant serving breakfast and lunch. Hotel room prices very reasonable but valet & self parking a little pricey: $39.99 & $29.99 plus tax. "A Nice Hotel"
To say that the room was small would be an understatement. Very nice facility in a perfect downtown location. Getting our vehicle from the parking garage always took twice the time that the hotel said.Avis certifié Hotels.com
Perfect location to shopping, Unipn Square, public transit, great restaurants. Large bedroom, great mattress and pillows. Clean, well-maintained property. Helpful, friendly staff. All amenities. Reminds me of the late, great and lamented Wyndham in New York City.Avis certifié Expedia
This hotel is in an excellent location next to Union Square. Rooms were clean and staff were pleasant. The small room size is the biggest drawback and could do with being renovated. Bathroom was tiny and also needs to be updated. However, the central location of this hotel still makes it a good choice for a visit to downtown San Francisco.Avis certifié Expedia

"Comfortable, friendly, very San Francisco"
Chancellor Hotel is located one-half block from Union Square, by the cable car. Room is small but complete and well-maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. I travelled alone and felt safe and welcomed. Restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch only, but the bar has good food at dinner time, if you wish to dine "at home. Many restaurants close by. […] I will be back. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia
"Old tired hotel"
Very nice front desk staff greeted us, and then we waited patiently for the 2 old elevators. When we got into our room, it was small and tired. There was no ventilation system other than opening a window. The ear plugs on the night table should have been a clue about how noisy Union Square is right now with tons of construction. We'd recommend avoiding […] it. Everything about the room was old, tired, dark, and unappealing. We left after one night rather than stay the three nights we had planned - it was that unappealing. The staff was very nice, and offered to move us to a room on the back side of the hotel that they thought would be quieter, but also told us that the 'view' out of the window would be a brick wall. So we left. Lisez la suiteAvis certifié Expedia
"The Chancellor Rocks!"
This place was amazing. I booked this room for my boyfriends birthday, for after his surprise party. I told the hotel about it. I made a request if I could have a room on the upper floor. "Classic hotel steps from union square"
Chancellor hotel is great if you know what to expect - this is definitely an older hotel so the rooms are smaller and the bathroom is quite tiny. That said, the staff was incredibly nice, the bed was amazingly comfortable, and we really enjoyed our stay!Avis certifié Expedia
"Old style hotel in the heart of SF."
My wife and I spent five nights at the Chancellor Hotel. It's a classic old style hotel in the heart of San Francisco. Our room was clean and comfortable. The room was a bit cramped, but this is typical of older downtown hotels. My only complaint would be the noise. Although the streets quiet down after 10 PM, my sleep would be disturbed by the sound […] of an occasional police siren or an early morning garbage truck. The hotel is located in front of a cable car line, so I would wake up to the sound of a cable car rolling by (I actually found the sound to be pleasing). Despite the noise, I would stay here again.
