Chancellor Hotel on Union Square

I enjoyed this hotel very much. Room was very clean and even though it was small it was fine for 2 people. I would stay here again.

The Chancellor had everything we needed, at a reasonable rate. The staff were so cordial and helpful, it made us feel like true guests. The room was small-ish, but fine to move around in, and very nicely furnished. Great, comfortable bed and plush bedding. We'll definitely return when we get to stay in SF.

Location was great, and hotel parking is right around the corner (20 min. drop-off is available in front of the hotel). Definitely cozy by modern standards, but it ads to its historic feel. The chancellor was a lovely hotel conveniently located just off union square. Rooms were small but had everything you needed flat screen tv, hair dryer, iron, safe, fridge and a large seperate closet which easily fitted our two large suitcases etc which meant they weren't in the room itself. I only stayed there for ONE night. It was a pleasant experience. I did not have many needs and that I believe played a role in my opinion. Nonetheless the staff was friendly and helpful.I Only one issue is the road noise, even after the windows were shut.

Lovely european-style hotel adjacent to Union Square. Right on the Cable Car line and 4 blocks from BART, so easy to get around. Rooms in the back are quieter than the front of the hotel, but we were on a top floor and the noise level was fine (typically city noises). Staff were very helpful and pleasant. I would definitely stay there again!

The desk personnel were very friendly & informative, the cold water w/lime & cookies plus a coffee machine in the lobby a nice touch; our room was very comfortable & impeccably clean....we'll definitely come back. (We had breakfast at the Golden Gate Restaurant a block away & it was fabulous...it's a bar + restaurant w/great decor.)

We have stayed at the Chancellor many times now. The location is perfect with great restaurants, Union Square, shops, and most importantly, theatres within walking distance. Very happy with the Chancellor choice. An old-worldy hotel, non airconditioned but has everthing you need. Happy and helpful staff, great proximity to Union Sq and the Cable cars trundling past on Powell St. Free use of their PC with ultra speed broadband. This is a great hotel, the staff were lovely and really helpful, the room was great with the biggest walk in closet I've ever seen. It is just off Union Square so ideal for any sightseeing you'll do while visiting the city and very close to an array of fab shops. My only very slight complaint was that I was in a room which must have been near some old […] pipes and they "clanged" occassionally through the night waking me up, if you are a light sleeper it may be useful to take earplugs just in case you get the room I stayed in. Hotel was prime location in union square. Did all the things needed to do in SF. Space in bathroom and hallways were very small. Room was just a place to sleep. SF is a fabulous city.

First time to San Francisco and what a great place. Loads to do and see. I used trip advisor to select the chancellor hotel as we were trying to stick to a reasonable budget but get a good clean and central location. This was spot on and I would recommend a stay here.

It's a modest but well-maintained older hotel right near Union Square, Chinatown, and the financial district. The room was not as small as expected, based on some of the reviews. Service was friendly; got a good tip on a nearby restaurant, and when our TV remote stopped working, the batteries were replaced right away. Booked the hotel through a 3rd party, called to confirm with the hotel and the receptionist was super nice and helpful. Used to live in the city for years so I'm familiar, but I called the concierge anyways for dinner/entertainment recommendations and Vanessa killed it! I stayed here for a business trip for a few days. The room was cozy and laid out well. The small touches made a big difference in comfort factor - specialty pillows courtesy of the hotel, bath salts and rubber ducky (!) in the bathroom, a jar of hard candies by the ice bucket... All aspects of the hotel were great. Cleanliness, condition of hotel, location, great staff, amenities, comfortable bed, however, the room was extremely cold. (only a worry in the winter). I had turned the heater dial on when I arrived back from dinner, and continued to be cold. The setting choices where 1 thru 5 (not a thermostat). I put it at 3. An […] hour later, I was still freezing. I called guest services, and was told that they do not turn on the main unit until 10:00pm. I was still freezing at 10:30pm, and called them back, and they informed me that I can use the space heater in the closet to help get rid of the chill. Never even new it was there!!! Great hotel for the price and location in Union Square. Walking distance to public transportation (cable cars and bart) and shopping. The room was very small but clean. Early check in is available at no additional cost. One thing I did not like was that parking was a block away. But overall it was good.

My sister and I stayed here for two nights during a short leisure trip. I wanted a non-chain hotel at a fair price in Union Square, and was delighted to have all of those criteria met in this hotel. When we arrived, I was happy to find that they had accommodated my request of a high floor, and a room with a view of the square. There was a mini fridge, a good-sized safe, flat-screen TV with HBO, and on-demand movies, a little jar of hard candies, and a ***walk-in*** closet!!! My sister and I were THRILLED. Bottom line: I'd *highly* recommend this hotel to anyone with discriminating taste on a budget after the holidays. This small hotel is located between the Westin and the Marriott, just north of Union Square. The cost is substantially less than these other two hotels for the same excellent location. Service with a smile, and although it's vintage, it's very clean. I would stay here again.
