Embassy Hotel - San Francisco

I would not stay there again. The person at the front desk was not helpful at all. There were bums hanging out in the lobby. There is seriously a club on the bottom floor that you can hear all night long.

Located in a very bad part of San Francisco. No air conditioning - we did not know this until we arrived and it was very hot in our room - uncomfortable sleeping conditions. Very old hotel - floors creaked, etc.

The rooms were awful. I can't even begin to list everything! The Walls were filthy, the comforters had satins on them, no air conditioning, nonrunning hot water, when we turned on the water in the shower it came out drk brown then the water handle broke off the shower. An overall bad experience!

East of hotel is druggy area- very scarey - stay away. To head downtown, go down polk to federal area and go east from there - very safe. Some hotel rooms are good. Some, not so good. Lots of french tour groups go through this hotel. 7am breakfast can be quite busy if you are in a hurry to eat and run. Convenient for the purpose of our visit to San Fran.....Opera. Still a decent and safe location.

I thought this was a decent hotel for the price. It's clearly very old, but well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast was actually better than what I've had in chain hotels, which admittedly isn't saying much. The neighborhood, however, is very sketchy, with many homeless (like a lot of areas of SF). Definitely learn […] the bus routes and don't walk along Turk St. from Market Street like I did. The #31 bus goes east-west along Eddy (one block up the hill), and the #19 bus goes north-south along Polk Street. Some nice coffee shops are just a block to the west. Lisez la suite

The hotel itself was very clean and the staff were friendly and warm. They also let me check in before noon, which was great. Another perk is free wi-fi, which they should advertise on their website. However, as a female traveling alone, I didn't feel safe walking around by myself, I was told not to walk down Turk St at all. Also, the walls were so […] thin that I could hear the conversations of the people staying next to me and there was also some noise from outside. I hate to give this hotel a bad rating because it was very clean and the staff were so friendly but can't recommend this for those traveling alone and have to say the noise was pretty bad and I'm not a very picky traveler. This hotel is an interesting part of town, major things like city hall, the arts center, and state building are close by, but expect a long walk if you're planning on catching public transportation and even a farther walk if you're planning on catching the BART. Neighborhood is a mix of business folks and people going to court, as well as homeless (lots […] of them). For the most part the homeless don't bother anyone, but I would not walk alone at night. Hotel is attached to some club and surprisingly, on 5th floor you cannot hear the music, this was a good feature. If you care about a decent price, a clean bed, and room, then this is your place. Overall the service at the hotel was good. However, the actual accommodations are quite old. The room and the hotel smell old. The actual bed was fine and I slept good. The walk downtown is not nice as you walk through homeless shelters, people consuming/dealing drugs and many checking you over. The archaic art deco building on the periphery of the Tenderloin District harkened me back to the days of globe-trotting around Europe. The furniture was nice(new to them, used elsewhere before), the closet was almost as big as the room and there was gold glimmering everywhere. The safe was locked open but they kindly offered to store my valuables down […] in the lobby safe. The bathroom has the original deco purple tiles on the walls. The bathtub had a long black hair in it, but I had that happen recently at a four star hotel recently as well. The sink was a bit slow to drain, but overall, the room was WELL WORTH the money. The free continental breakfast featured a homemade Irish brown bread that was not to be believed!!! That, too, made the room well worth the stay. The mostly European clientele, was well mannered and quiet. The building is quite sound proof, even with the windows open I slept well with the cool bay air coming in on the sixth floor. The linens were passable, but the bed was a bit on the aged side. None-the-less, that, too, was more comfortable than some higher rated hotels in which I have stayed. The front desk staff reminded me of Ireland! I called to have fresh towels brought up and the front desk brought them up immediately and personally. I felt like a person at this hotel, Not like another face coming through the door. The location was near many features of the city: Asian Museum, City Hall and the MUNI to name a few. Also, for those who know San Francisco, you would be happy to know that this hotel is not located on any major hills. This makes strolling to sites and transportation more palatable than the hills on the 6-10˚ inclines. I would recommend strolling be done during the day, or taking a taxi at night. Hotel location is not bad. I have been staying in 4 or 5 stars hotel for last 25 years travel around the world. I don't know why I had reserved this hotel. My kids and wife all complaint about it. The shower handle is missing and stink.

Nice hotel staff and clean but the hotel is very, very old. As a young, female traveling alone, the location was in a bad area. Small bathrooms where the door barely clears the toliet. I booked in a hurry, mistaking this property for an Embassy Suites but this place was far from. This hotel was not in a very good neighborhood, and it looked a bit rundown. The rooms have no ventilation, so it gets really stuffy and smelly. There is no fridge, microwave, coffeepot or even glasses/ice buckets- we couldn't keep food/drinks cold or try to reheat food or anything. The room itself was roomy enough, but was also a bit worn down. The […] staff were very helpful- they stored our bags for us while we went sightseeing upon our very early arrival, and on our last day when we had a red eye flight back home. They helped us locate attractions and navigate the city, and took care of our shuttle to the airport. All in all, very old and run down hotel lacking basic amenities, but has helpful and nice staff. Its an old hotal which they do their best to keep up. Price is a little high how old it is but over all good. The best thing of the hotal is the location which is in the better oart of the town.

Although the hotel is old it was very clean. The service was very good. Very nice people. Had no problems with access to parking lot. The breakfast was not 5 star but we were not there to eat. When you book in a hotel that is old you must expect it to be old. However it is well kept. My sister and I had a very nice stay and will stay again.

Walking in was rather shocking--while clean the interior had not been updated since cars had tail fins. It felt like being in a Bogart movie. The music from the dance floor shook items left on the bathroom sink preventing any rest. There were no cups in the room and one had to ask for them. While it was easy to get to Civic Center to pick up Muni--it […] was still a walk none the less. The hotel is kind of old and run down. But for the price and their location, its easy for me to look past the loud toilet, the running water, and hard bed. The hotel is a great place to stay if you plan on walking around sf a lot during your trip. Wow so ghetto. There is a soup kitchen down the street. My bed had cigarette burns on the sheets, and there was homless people everywhere searching for bottles. Don't use there parking structure, it is even worse than the hotel. The lady working the front desk was so incredibly rude!!!! Overall, we had a nice stay at this hotel. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean, comfortable and good sized. Unfortunately, we had two rooms, and each had a few maintenance issues. We had to walk the block to Van Ness to get a cab, and it's not in the best neighborhood for that. They opened a club about 6 months ago, […] which was convenient the night we wanted to go out, but loud the night we wanted to sleep. First of all its not that close to Japan town. In fact its in the tenderloin which was not put in the description. They wrote with a black sharpie on the towels the name of the hotel. Its in an un-safe neighborhood and the remote did not even come with the room. It took them over 2 hours to change the light bulb in the bathroom.

People should know not to walk down Turk street

The hotel staff is fine. The room looks fine. The bathroom need some cleaning and work.

Very old and not well kept up. Edge of Tenderloin District, so did not go out at nite!!! Staff very helpful. Easy walking access to public transportation.

This hotel was old, musty smelling, the closets were also musty, no remote for tv. The people who work there are nice and helpful.

Hi, the staff were friendly and helpful and the rates were so cheap which was a good plus, but the room conditions were just so terrible that I really thought to check back out and look else where, not sure if I would recommend the rooms to future people. The room locks, tv etc were either broken, slowly falling apart or just plain missing. It made […] us feel unsafe to the point that all we could do was just laugh at it. The hotel staff was very accomodating, and made the stay very enjoyable.

The website says they have a roll away bed, but when I got there and asked for one, I was told that the rooms are too small for them. The bathroom shower tile was covered in black mold.

Although the hotel is in a central zone, it is also located in an area where you'd better not walk after sunset. Everything is old in this hotel: from the elevator, to the hallways, the door, the room, bathroom, the TV, etc. The bedsheets were alright and the room was decently clean, but they didn't clean the bathroom properly after the previous guests […] checked out and it was disgusting. Oh, not to mention that you are very close to some house club, and if you plan on sleeping during the night, you're out of luck. Lisez la suite

IT WAS APPARENTLY AN OLD HOTEL, JUDGING BY THE FIXTURES, FURNITURE, ETC. YOU ONLY GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR...

I had to use 3 diffrent rooms to try and take a shower no water would come out, no hot water when I turned the hot water knob red water came out and when I mentioned it to the lady at the front desk all she said was "well no one else said anything" the place was empty who else was going to complain ...the place is awful..

Only one of our two beds had bugs, and not a huge infestation. There were 10 bites between me and my three friends who slept on the bed. However, I was completely disgusted and I will never stay here again. Ignoring the bugs, the hotel was nice enough, pretty lobby, good sized rooms. It was a block or so from the civic center and bus stops, however […] if you want to walk to market be prepared to walk through the dead of the tenderloin, it got a little creepy at night. The hotel itself was at the edge of good and bad, turn left-bad, right-good. I was not impressed with the hotels service, our room did not have enough towels and when we walked downstairs to ask for more we were told to come back in 10 minutes. They refused to have the towels sent up to the room. All of this wouldn't usually bother me though and if it wasn't for the bedbugs I'd come here again, you get what you pay for, so the rest of the negatives I expect. Lisez la suite

Where else can you get FREE parking in SF??? This is our 2nd home almost, living in San Jose, lodging at the Embassy Hotel is a great opportunity for us to have fun in SF w/o having to drive all the way back home. The water heater can be a little noisy but other than that we love staying here and one can not beat the price/value.

I go to San Francisco at least every 6 months. I vary hotels on purpose to have a new experience. This was a bad choice! The room was dingy, smelled old, small, uncomfortable beds, tv. remote not in working order, and was at least 25 yrs. old. Bathroom TINY- no amenities. I spent 30 minutes calling around and promptly checked out, going back to a hotel […] I knew met my, and my son's standards. I thought the hotel was part of the Embassy Suites ownership--I was very wrong. The location feels dangerous, your car is kept outside around the corner, and no one is there to assist in carrying luggage. Even the front door was difficult to identify--ones first clue to the situation. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone--the one staff I met was polite and made it clear he understood where I was coming from. He did only charge me for one night, not the original two. Which was provide me a place to sleep. The hotel itself is fairly old, the room key was an actual key. However, it definitely had it's quirky charm. The staff was very friendly though. In fact my experience at this hotel has been one of the best staff wise. When I wanted to book a second night last minute they allowed me to do so at the same rate that […] I booked the first one. After I checked out I had to run to a store and buy a new phone (I dropped mine down my friend's elevator shaft the night before,) and they held my bags for me until I got back. Here are some of the not so good parts. When I walked in my room is smelled like someone had left a bucket of bleach in the room for a while because it was quite strong (I guess that means it was pretty clean.) The shower looked questionable, so I ended up using the shower at a friend's apartment. I only ever saw guests above the age of 45... this is probably not the place to be if you are young and looking to party in your room. Overall, it was a charming place to sleep and I wouldn't mind renting a room here again. Lisez la suite
