sur value="10""Le Nouvel Hotel in Montreal - inadequate kitchen"
Commentaire d'un client de Hotels.com le mai 22, 2010
We chose this hotel specifically because of its kitchenette as we were staying for a 10 days. The cooking facilities were very disappointing. There was a total of 3 plates - a single large diner plate and 2 smaller plates: 4 forks 3 teaspoons and 2 knives: a frying pan and two pots; coffee mugs and 4 drinking glasses. It was virtually impossible to make any simple meal - not even a can of soup as there was no can opener, any knife other than a table knife, strainer, pot holder or dish towel. The toaster over heated with each use and the sink drain was clogged. The front desk did respond but it was very frustrating to continually ask for basic supplies. The gym facilities were also disappointing with a single treadmill and 2 stationary bikes along with a weight machine down a hallway in the basement.

One of the fancier hotels I've ever stayed at. Underground parking garage at the hotel was convenient. They charged me $15 (Canadian)/night cash, up front, at the garage entrance, so be ready for that. Bed was very comfy. Toilet never flushed over my multi-day visit with must gusto, even though I didn't do anything worthy of clogging it. The in-room safe didn't work, the battery may be too weak. The TV remote control, which looks new, demands an extra effort to turn the TV on and off. The "cd player" mentioned on the hotels.com webpage is not a boom box in the room but apparently a service ordered through the TV. I didn't bother with it since my musical tastes are far off the mainstream. Bring your own player if you brought along your own CDs. I'm new to Montreal and I don't know what the cable TV situation is, but surprisingly the TV did not have a included movie channel, like HBO. Movies can be ordered through the TV, at extra cost. Even the cheapest motel room I've stayed at has free HBO. These were all minor issues for me, I'll come back.

Everything was as described by other reviewers, including the bed which was the only downfall of this hotel. If they would just provide comfortable beds with decent pillows, I'd definitely return but a sore neck is reason enough to avoid this place. If I was just wanting a place to crash (heading for strip clubs with the buys for example), I'd definitely give this place a look. Incidentally, the attached restaurant serves very nice food.

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They helped me to arrange a later check-out and to let me know I could put my bags in luggage check the next day. Also they pointed out the free computers and internet and told me I could print whatever I needed to at no charge. The room I had booked was exactly as I had expected and they were very quick and had everything ready for me when I got there. The room was very comfortable and clean. When I went down and asked the concierge for his recommendations for a nice little place for dinner, he was very helpful and friendly. Overall I was very satisfied with this hotel and it was a pleasant experience all the way through!

The hotel was quiet, the room was large and clean as was the bathroom. The bathroom could have been updated some, but then I'm sure the price would have been updated as well. Overnight underground parking was $15, internet in room was free, breakfast buffet was $11. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great deal for the money!!

Commentaire d'un client de Hotels.com le nov. 5, 2009
I've stayed at Le Nouvel several times. It is an excellent value, with fine accommodations and well-located. The decor of the rooms, and some of the furnishings (i.e., television) are a bit dated, but not critically ... everything works, and things are comfortable. On my most recent stay I was located on a nice floor, but positioned next to a heating or generating unit of some kind that produced a constant, noticable rumbling. To me it was "white noise" and not a major disturbance. Others might find the droning unpleasant, and may wish to note this when they request a room.

sur value="10""OK, but they have some technical issues"
Commenté par Steve de Laguna Niguel le oct. 7, 2009
The hotel is well located, and the rooms are very similar to any modestly-priced hotel chain that you would see adjacent to any airport, except that the decor and the room furniture are 1930s style. The bed was a little soft but in good condition. Staff were very helpful. Plumbing worked without a hitch. The TV was fine. Two problems: First, internet access is all wireless and very undependable. The signal drops frequently (and subsequently reconnects), but some applications don't work very well in this environment. When working, the bandwidth is excellent. Second, my key stopped working after one day, and I had to go down to the desk to get it "recharged". I just hate when that happens, especially when I'm carrying luggage or shopping bags. It is place memorable and outstanding? A big NO. But it is acceptable.

You need to tell guests to park first as we had a run in with parking police over being in front of the hotel while checking in. If the hotel manager had not come out to the rescue our car would have been towed away in spite of the sign that said we had 15 minutes to free park to register.

Commentaire d'un client de Hotels.com le août 29, 2009
Le Nouvel Hotel's location is only a couple blocks from the Guy-Concordia Métro subway station. This gives quick access to all of Montréal. Also, this line connects directly to the Underground City, which provides a multitude of activities when the weather is not nice. Internet was included in my package. Many public places in Montréal also have free internet. If you bring a laptop for business or recreation, it is helpful for seeing all the attractions. One attraction not listed in the hotel's information that I thought worthwhile was O Noir. This restaurant is only a couple of blocks from the hotel. It is run by an institute for the blind. All service is provided in a dark environment by blind servers. My only complaint was the parking. The hotel lists that it has parking. When I arrived, I found that parking was available, but this was an additional expense per day. Since I used the Métro so frequently, I may have pursued alternate transportation instead of parking my car there.

Commentaire d'un client de Hotels.com le juil. 23, 2009
The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The hallways were a little rundown. The hotel's restaurant was below-average and over-priced relative to food quality. The location of the hotel was sub-optimal relative to the downtown central but was in a quiet neighborhood. I doubt that I will return because I've stayed at comparably-priced hotels in Montreal that are better overall.

I stayed at the Nouvel for 2 nights and it was amazing. The staff are knowledgable and always there - 4 staff behind a small desk and english speaking. I stayed in the Admiral lofts and it was 10/10. It's on the first floor with a private entrance. The room was huge - pull out couch, kitchenette, bathroom with a hot tub and standup shower. The spa services are downstairs and were very good.

I thought the hotel would be a little nicer. In the middle of winter, the walk to the metro took about 15 min. Close to St. Catharine but not close to the plateau. I would probably look for a place closer to the plateau next time. We had to pay extra for 4 people in one room yet they never gave us enough towels and soap every night. The pluses are that there is free internet and it is on a main street where cabs come all of the time.

Have stayed in a number of hotels in Montreal over the past 8+ years. First time in this hotel. Location was great for this trip as my son is at University and his dorm was across the street. However for shopping a bit out of the way. Parking was great. Have a SUV and being able to park it myself was a plus and charge was only $15. compared to $25 at other hotels. Will stay here again however will depend on reason of visit and what I would like close by.

My wife and I arrived with our 5-month old in tow amid a torrential downpour. The front desk said they couldn't loan us an umbrella, and would not help us take our bags out of the taxi. The rooms on the seventh floor ("Executive floor") were reasonably comfortable but not exactly what I'd call "luxurious." Really, the best part about this hotel is its proximity to subways and other stuff that is downtown. If you're not planning on spending a lot of time in the room, and just need a place to sleep between your jaunts around the city, this hotel will fit the bill. The good: Free WiFi, comfortable bed, good location close to subway and restaurants The bad: WiFi reception was poor in our room, in-hotel restaurant / room service is bad and overpriced

For those of you interested in being in downtown Montreal without necessarily being concerned about being directly on the main drag this is a great spot. 5 minute walk from Crescent St/St. Catherine bars, restaurants, and shopping which was great. Easy cab ride/subway to Old Montreal and everything else you'll want. For an extra $20 a night we were able to upgrade to a suite which was well worth it and one of the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in. Good 24hr gym, and very friendly helpful staff. Just don't order food at the hotel bar not worth it.
