"room smelled like smoke, otherwise fine"
We were in a non-smoking room, but it smelled pretty strongly of smoke. Also, this is really more of a motel than a hotel, with parking right outside your room. Which also means that you can hear a lot going on outside your room. We were there at the same time as a conference, and I had to call the management at 11:45 pm to ask them to quiet the people […] who were hanging out on the stairs near our room. They were very good about it though, and we didn't have a problem after that. The hotel is clean, breakfast included. Our kids had a wonderful time at the pool, which has a section inside and a section outside, and you can swim from one to another like the penguins in a zoo exhibit. I just needed a place to stay after an all day event so my time was limited. Staff was nice, breakfast was a step up from the free buffet you normally get but just a small step up. So it was overall ok. Complaints: the elevators are quite a haul from the front desk, down a long hallway. Thankfully I didn't have heavy bags. The worst thing about the […] place was this overall smell. Stale and slightly.. well.. poopy. The room itself was nice enough but the hotel around it very outdated. My family stays at the Merry Manor every year on our way to our summer house in DownEast Maine. We love the saltwater pool and hot tub they have there. It's so nice to relax in the water at the end of a long day driving. It's easy to get into downtown either driving or by cab to have dinner in one of Portland's many great restaurants.
