Hotel Riverside Studios - New York

It was interesting staying here, the staff was so helpful but the building needs some upgrade. It's great for a few nights. My friends and I had a great time there. For a last minute booking this hotel saved our staying in NYC.

The room was cleaned daily. Shared bathrooms were grungy at best. Heat with the snowstorm was minimal. Location is great. There are probably better options in the same price range if you need cleanliness and upkeep. A former single room occupancy hotel with lots of residents leftover from that time. I cannot even believe that hotels.com would list this hotel on their site. The mattresses have plastic wrapped around them...the rooms stink and are dirty. The bathrooms are ROACH infested. I took a shower and counted at least 20 roaches crawling on the walls and the floors. I slept in my CLOTHES and wouldnt stop on the floor without shoes. If you're on a tight budget and need something cheap i would recommend this hotel. Definitely not a five star hotel let alone a 2 star hotel but it will work for short trips. Nice neighborhood and easy access to subways food shopping and site seeing.

ts the most disgusting place i have ever stayed ..We booked for 5 nights only stayed the one night . As i walked into the front door my face dropped , that holiday excitement disappeared.The entrance was dirty ,then turned right into reception it was worse .At this point i still had hope. Since the express train stops at 72nd, this is a great location. The neighborhood is fantastic. However, the hotel is rather grungy. Bed is awful, the sink is gross, and the phone doesn't work. I also never got my room serviced or cleaned. However, the room has a mini fridge.

Hotel is in poor repair. In bathroom, no rubber mat in tub, no mat when leave shower, no rail to hold on to when getting into or out of shower, telephone did not work, walls in halls were moldy. I had wanted inexpensive, but didn't expect this to be so bad.

This hotel almost has the feel of a hostel. Fairly clean room but I really think that sharing a bathroom is a bit much!

I would recomend this hotel for NY Lovers that spend only sleeping time in the hotel. The place is huge and kind of confusing. No matter the location, I still think this hotel is overpriced, given that you have to use a communal bathroom. Once I knew I had to bring flip-flops, it really wasn't as bad as it could have been. Never had to wait for the shower, and though unbelievably narrow, it was serviceable. There was a second bathroom in the hall (further down) that was slightly […] wider. No counters in the bathroom, so bring a bag or something to put your toiletries in. Shower was actually quite hot! Room and bathroom were freezing--I closed windows in the bathroom to help the cold. Turned the radiator open in the room and nothing happened, but the heat did kick on in the middle of the night. Was surprised to have clean towels, mini soaps, and 2 rolls of toilet paper--we never lacked, as the bathroom had plenty, and so I never needed the fresh rolls they gave us. The table lamp did not work, and so we only had the harsh overhead light....but the room was clean and big enough. Not a bad place from which to go sightseeing, but just don't book this "hotel" for the ambience or accommodations. Book it only if this is the best you can afford, and realize that you get what you pay for. We did not get lost (maybe because I knew from other reviewers to pay close attention to the directions) and the hallways were not dark or unsafe. I saw no bugs (roaches or bedbugs). Hotel Ricerside Studios was a standard hostel-type accomodation and pretty good for the price. Ammenities were simple and the housekeeping could have been better but the location was great. Within walking distance of Central Park and the Theatre District, HRS is in a good neighbourhood and at the end of a quiet street. This place was an amazing deal for the price and location. I'd highly recommend it for anyone traveling to NYC on a budget.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 8 nights, because we had to pay everything in advance...if we'd gotten a chance to only pay 10% and then take a look at the room, we would have NEVER stayed! First of all, the building is in terrible condition with crooked floors, it's dirty and not at all maintained. The AC was under the window, and there were holes […] directly to the outside. Every morning around 7 am, there was a terrible noise going on outside for 1 hour, but we don't know what it was since we couldn't see trough the dirty window! There were holes in the linen (because of cigarettes and because of being really well-used), and a constant cigarette smoke smell. This place should not be on hotels.com. Don't stay there! The shared bathrooms look like they've never been cleaned. The sheets look nasty too. The beds are hard and are equiped with 2 thin sheets. The whole place was a dump. Its nice that its close to the Museum and to Central park but its not worth it.

I woulf only go there if I had absolutely no choice. The place is smelly, paint is chipping. The bathrooms are new but there are 2-3 bathrooms per floor which everyone shares. Old and ugly place to stay. Foot odor in the rooms. Towels and sheets clean everyday. Good location for low budgets. If you cannot afford somewhere better you'll have to resign yourself with this type of accomodation in NYC.

Hotel is in a great location. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but the place is not kept in good condition and it's not clean.

The hotel was dark, dingey, smelt unbelievably bad and was just downright awful. The only saving grace was the good location. I only stayed 2 nights and I dreaded going back to the hotel both nights. Hotel was bad a real dump dont stay there for any reason "any reason" new york was great as usual.

Pretty funky, but clean, inexpensive and the people were friendly and helpful. Don't forget your flip flops for the shower - it reminded me of a college dorm!

Other than a reasonable room rate, it was awful. Horrible, terrible, nasty, smelly, dirty, disgusting, and scary. Room didn't even have a bathroom. It was a shared bathroom down a long dark hall like a European Hostel.

+ Located a few minutes walk from Central Park and the Subway that takes you through out the City. - Condition of the overall 'hotel' is poor - my room was fine but I did not use the shared bathroom the whole three nights I was there. I got a little dizzy walking around in the narrow hallways. We got lost at first, had to walk through what felt like two other buildings to get to our building. We used the stairs to get to the fifth floor instead of the elevator because it was so tiny and dirty. Once in our room, it wasn't as bad. The room was clean, pillows smelled fresh, linens […] were laundered. We had daily room cleaning (new towels, remove trash). Phone didn't work. One bug seen in a drawer, small, not a big deal, smashed it with my finger. Only one light bulb worked in the overhead light, did have a lamp on the bedside stand that worked. Room had 6 hangers, 1 small refrigerator (never used it, no need). Bed was quite firm, slept fine on it. Room had a sink and water cups for drinking. Bathroom was shared and right across from our room. We came prepared, had sanitizing wipes to use each time (we knew we were going to be sharing). Wife wore flip-flops each time she went to the bathroom, I did after one incident where the floor was wet from a previous user. Few outlets were available, so charging our phones required that we unplug the alarm clock and refrigerator. We used our phones for an alarm instead. That left the TV and Lamp as the other two items taking up the remaining plugs. The design of the headboards and the bed covers made the room feel like it was for a toddler. Big fruit were painted on the dresser. It was an interesting design choice. Our room was fairly large, it had two double beds in it (though we paid for two twins). It didn't feel too cramped. Two blocks away was the Metro 1,2,3 (Red) station, very convenient. Two more blocks away from that station was another one for a N,Q,R (Blue) station. So we never had trouble getting around on the subways. The hotel is a good basic hotel for sleeping in. Aside from a place to rest your head, the hotel is not much good. do not book this hotel unless this is the last resort. i highly recommend hostels over this hotel. no wonder why it's non refundable because once you pay you are screwed, it is no clean. it stinks and a lot of bugs. i just can't beleive that it has one star on it. they should make it negative stars.

the location was great the room speceious the beds comfy and big... not too clean - share bathrooms and toilets pretty shabby and depending on the other users clean or not so clean... i guess its ok for the price and location would try some other place next time

Staff was very accomodating. Very quiet and nice neighborhood.

Stayed here for two nights. The hotel could definitely use a major remodeling; very old fixtures, elevator, etc. The hallways are like a maze. I got lost trying to find my room. The room wasn't tiny, but it was definitely much smaller than other places. And the bed was pretty hard with one small pillow. Very low standard with 10 or so TV channels, no Internet and shared bathrooms. Our room had no chair or table, just a bed, sink, drawer and closet. On the plus side, working A/C and fridge. Fairly close to Central Park and in a quiet neighborhood, the street outside has no through traffic. Hotel has no lounge but a 24/7 reception. Bad experiences: * Maid left our door unlocked and open (!) once * One of two shared bathrooms was out of order for a couple of days * Fairly expensive for the standard you get, but that's central New York for ya! This was the most uncomfortable night I have spent in 55 years of hotel experience, No running water in room. Shower room filthy. Location of room difficult to find from elevator.Comment from front desk to my complaint was "What do expect from a cheap hotel"? Very possible this establishment has not been inspected. It would hardly pass.

For those wanting to stay in a great location for a cheap price, this hotel is hard to beat. If u are just looking for a bed, I recommend this hotel.

Very old--Seems like it has NEVER been updated. Was there with my 16 year old son. He loved it--said it was real New York--he loved the fire escape up to the roof. That was a cool view from up there--HOWEVER--I didn't walk on floor with barefeet. The bed and sheets seemed clean--but----I knew it was a shared bathroom. I never saw anyone else around […] our room--never had to wait to use it--HOWEVER--it has NEVER been updated. It seemed clean. I wore sandals in there. The hallways were dark, narrow and DINGY. The staff was really nice--open 24 hours. Location was in a neighborhood. Very nice--upper east side--3 blocks from subway station--it is a little bit of a hike. Shared bathrooms, stained carpets, stark dismal hallways, no "artwork" anywhere, no refund even with several days' notice. Hotels.com has plenty of delightful places to stay on the upper west side for only a few dollars more, if booked in advance.
