"Sunrise inGrand Bahamas"
Great marina cleanliness and friendliness. Needed a place to stay for a great price.
"For the local crowd"
A bit far from anything happening.. But a very nice place
"Not my cup orf tea"
We stayed there only one night and got in late (and called ahead so they knew we'd be late) but the hotel office was locked and dark. Luckily a staff showed up and was able to get us our keys . The hotel was way out in no mans land but with a marina next to it so if you like getting away from everything, and I mean everything, then this is the place […] for you. The room was clean but with bare minimum. I laughed when my daughter checked for bed bugs, she is 9 and not used to staying in lower end hotels. There were none and all was fine but the sheets were very thin and scratchy. The next morning we awoke to find that there was no place to get any food without getting in a shuttle that drove 20 minutes away. There was coffee in the room but nothing else. Since we were just stopping through for one night on our way to Paradise island we just called our driver from the night before to pick us up early and take us to a place to eat before going to the airport. I won't stay there again but it wasn't bad so others might like it. I am used to staying at higher end resorts so for us it wasn't our "cup of tea" and wasn't our thing as a family. There was nothing to do and no amenities. The water and boats were pretty to look at and my kids loved trying to catch the curly tailed lizards basking in the sun while we checked out. We were there only 12 hours. Lisez la suite
"Great hotel at great rate in quiet secluded locale"
The hotel is very clean and the staff very pleasant. The rooms are nicely appointed and are quite large. The rooms are nicely cleaned and smell very fresh, which I like. There is no restaurant on site and if you stay here it is best to rent a car because there's not much nearby within walking distance. Also, the location of this hotel is wrong on most […] map programs. It is very near the channel next to Xanadu Beach, just East of Williamstown. The best way to find it is to do a Google map satellite search and you'll see it just one block north of the coast on the channel, just east of Xanadu beach. The island itself leaves a little bit to be desired. The dropoff in the economy, lack of tourists and several hurricanes have taken their toll. There are many closed restaurants, buildings and hotels. When the economy picks back up this will be a nice place to come to again, especially with such great beaches. Gold Rock Beach is a real gem. It's gorgeous, peaceful and secluded (make sure your lock your valuables where they can't be seen because the parking lot is unguarded). Lisez la suite
"Great little affodable hotel off the beaten track"
I travelled by myself to the Bahamas and really loved that this place was gated and you had to go through the reception area to get in. There was also 24 hr security. The hotel staff was always available and very friendly. The place is about a mile from the beach and several miles from the Lucayan marketplace but the hotel has free bikes available. […] I loved being off the beaten bath. The little beach I went to had noone on it most of the time (I went in October - off season). Still you can't find that at the big resort area. The surrounding area is so-so I would be careful around Freeport. The bed was a little uncomfortable but I loved the view of the Marina and all of the bright windows. At this time of year most of the people staying at the hotel worked on ships in the marina. Lisez la suite
"Sunrise-hidden gem"
This place is just perfect, but a little out of the way. We were able to walk/bike to a small grocery store and cafe, but not really able to access the rest of the Island without a car or taking a taxi. However, if you want to relax and have peace and quiet, this is the place! Clean, well maintained, friendly staff! We would stay there again, but rent […] a car next time. Lisez la suite
Lovely place and very quiet.
"Lovely Resort Hotel w/Marina in Freeport, Bahamas"
I just stayed at Sunrise Resort & Marina. It is a very pretty facility that has recently been repainted and updated. Be sure to remember that the resort's prior name was "Running Mon" as most people do not yet know the name "Sunrise" and only "Running Mon" shows on many maps. It is a bit confusing to find initially if you are driving, but once you […] find the correct road there are signs that point the way to Sunrise Resort & Marina at the turning points. After that, it is easy. It is a bit out of town in a suburb, so you will need a car. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is unfortunate that right now the restaurant is not open as the place is very self contained. The hotel will furnish bicycles, kayaks, paddleboat, and I think jet skis to hotel occupants. There are fishing poles available as well. There are many gorgeous sailboats and yachts parked there for short and long durations. The water in the canal is very clean and calm. There is a nice common area by the pool that has music, pingpong, pool table, and exercise equipment. Unfortunately the bar is not open either. Perhaps as business increases it will be used again. There is a small shopping area about 10 blocks away that I walked to several times. There is a conch stand that fixes conch salad (ceviche style), steamed conch that they call "grilled", and fried conch, fish, and shrimp. You can take your meal into the bar next door and order a beverage while watching tv or listening to the music. There was a hamburger type grill beside the bar, but I never found it open. There is also a small grocery store, laundry and a few other businesses in the complex. Internet via WiFi was pretty good except for one night when it was out totally. There is NO business center and it would have been $2 per page to print out my boarding pass. There was a small coffee pot and refrigerator in my room as well as an iron and ironing board. There are laundry facilities on each floor. So, I definitely will try to stay Lisez la suite
"Great Place, will stay here if in Freeport again"
This place was great. Everyone was extremely nice to my cousin and I. They even upgraded our room because they had better rooms available. Both rooms were fine (we saw both), and were very clean. The Sunrise is a little off the beaten tourist path, which I love. I hate staying with all the tourists. I travel to meet and learn from other people, not […] to be catered to on some yuppie resort. This place loaned us bikes, has a great (nearly empty) beach nearby, and allowed us to experience a great stay. I would recommend this place to anyone who isn't going to play golf on the big resort and wants to save some $$$. You can easily get cabs for cheap to anywhere you like, and you get to meet more people and see more of Freeport that way. If you would be afraid of locals (who are really nice), then stay on the big resort and pay the big prices with all the other tourists. If you want a low cost, fun vacation, full of interesting people this place is for you. Lisez la suite
"Left much to be desired"
The staff on a whole were really nice, especially Charles the security guard. The rooms were well kept and they made the rooms up well each day, bath/shower was a bit crappy but did the job. Free wireless internet was crap at best and dropped out all the time which was frustrating. When we were there the bar and restaurant were not even open because […] and quote "it was not financially viable because we have too few guests" so we were forced to taxi into Port Lucaya for breakfast, lunch and tea (good thing we hired a car in the end), and the hotel made VERY little effort to use their 'complimentary' shuttle to take us in and return us for meals. The pool was clean but rather cold so we were the only ones that used it. Small things like giving us 2 towels for 3 guests EVERY day after being repeatedly told there were 3 of us. The best thing about the place was getting to meet the lovely and fascinating yachties staying at the attached marina. So in conclusion it was ok but they have a lot of work to get the place functioning well. Lisez la suite
"great hotel experience"
The people and service was fantastic. The staff was very freiendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and quiet. The only problem is you need transportation to restaurants etc. The marina also is in good condition. I will definately stay here any time I come to Freeport.
"Buen Hotel"
