"The Ambassador Hotel & Health Club"
"Ambassador, Cork"
Room 127 was too near elevator. Very noisy. Room 127 should not be used. Health club was a joke. That was the reason I booked this hotel. My wife was very disappointed. Would not stay again and would advise my friends not to stay either.
"Charmoing hotel"
We were a couple of friends on a roadtrip in Ireland. We choose this hotel for an overnight in Cork. The hotel is a charming, old building. This is not a high class, fashionable hotel, but has it charm through the historic building. The room was clean and it was possible to keep the window open at night. We had some issues with cold and hot water in […] the shower - either the shower were too warm or too cold, but it was possible to endure this. The building is historic and parts of the hotel might need some refurbishment, but on the other hand this is also part of the charm. The hotel is located approx 10 - 15 minutes walk from the city centre and the sourrounding area looked nice. We found it nice that the hotel was located in such a nice and calm area. The stroll downtown was nice and gave some additional impressions of the city. The hotel had complimentary parking and even if we arrived late - there were parking available. This was something we appriciated a lot. We did not have breakfast included in our deal, but we bought breakfast on site. It was possible to order irish breakfast or have a continental one. The breakfast buffet was unfortunately not the most impressive. The overall impression was good and we found it charming to live in such a historic building. We can recommend this hotel. "a good 3 star but not a 4 star"
nice hotel.well located.great staff but this is not a 4 star hotel..i would recommend this hotel though as it offers alot and is a good base in cork
"Noisy"
I wasn't impressed with the Hotel as a whole, it was very dated and in need of refurbishment. The bedroom was ok but the noise from nightclub was not acceptable, despite complaints the staff seemed not to care, so would will not be returning.
"Ambassador Hotel"
Extremely friendly and very welcoming staff. Very large and comfortable rooms. Only downside was the hotel claimed free wifi throughout, I was on the second floor and I occasionally could pick up the wifi on my iPad but not at all on my iPhone and on neither in the gym.
Hotel somewhat dated and in need of redecoration. Could not adjust heating in room. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Very relaxed atmosphere.
Nice Hotel with very friendly staff , good parking and greta views over Cork City
very enjoyable stay, staff very pleasant and helpful..
Staff- very helpful. Enjoyed the stay.
"cheap & cheerful"
The staff at the Ambassador were always friendly and helpful and the place had a kind of faded charm, however I don’t think it’s really 4* the TV only had about 6 channels, despite the hotel’s welcome pack claiming many more. As we both have mobility issues we requested a non slip bath mat which was never supplied. A more serious problem was the food, […] my partner and I had looked at the menu on-line and decided to dine at the hotel on our 2nd night, however after the meal we had on our 1st night we quickly changed our minds. My partner had a Satay sauce, she thought it tasteless but I thought it tasted off; we both agreed it had never seen a peanut. I had a burger which was tasteless and had been not very well reheated and chips which had been overcooked and were dark brown but still reheated not fresh, I was offered the choice of mayonnaise or ketchup with my chips, I chose mayonnaise and got ketchup. At breakfast I asked them to hold the tomatoes, they served me tomatoes but held the black pudding. Had we unwittingly decided to eat there as our “special night out” meal I would have sent all the food back, it was really terrible, we only accepted it because we were both tired from travelling. The hotel was cheap and comfortable just stay away from the restaurant. Lisez la suite
"Lovely hotel overlooking Cork"
The Ambassador is a lovely, old-style hotel overlooking Cork. It's about a 20 minute walk into the centre of town, but the location on the hill means it has great views. The rooms are large, very warm (although you can regulate your own temperature which is great) and the beds were really comfortable. The breakfast was extremely generous and well-worth […] adding as an extra on the bill. The staff were very helpful, giving us walking and driving directions, and the brown tourist signs directing us to the hotel were extremely useful in navigating our way there late at night. I'd definitely recommend this hotel - it's excellent value. Lisez la suite
"The Ambassador Hotel"
Staff in bar were friendly Food quite good and ambience nice
I have stayed at the Ambassador on a number of occasions for work. The staff have always been great and the food is excellent. Although I travel alone, I have always been given a huge room with a double and a single bed. I look forward to returning to teh Ambassador again in the near future.
"The Ambassador Hotel"
I stayed at The Ambassador Hotel one Tuesday night in Janauary 2012. I found the hotel to be very comfortable and the staff were very welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable with a kettle and plenty tea and coffee. As I was working in the city centre I found the location to be very convenient, a 15 minutes walk no need to bring the car. I did […] not eat at the hotel . I would be happy to stay again when I am next in Cork. Lisez la suite

"very good for the price"
when you leave the hotel to go downtown, just walk (10min), when you go back, grab a cab (the hill is steeper than you'd think)
"3 Nights in Cork"
The Ambassador was extremely comfortable and in a very convenient location to all the city sites. The room was comfortable and warm and the amenities were up-to-date, clean, and very European. I would definitely stay here again. The directions on-line need to be improved, however.
"Ambassador Hotel Cork."
Beautiful looking old building with wonderful views over Cork city if your room is to the front of the hotel. The rooms are enormous by modern standards with lovely high ceilings and had everything required. The decor is dated, but then the hotel is old so that's not unexpected and indeed it adds a little charm. Staff were friendly and very helpful. […] The leisure centre is a bit of a let down as there is no poole but is otherwise OK. I stayed Monday to Friday while my wife was in hospital and I was able to live from it quite comfortably. I would certainly use it again. Cost of accomodation was very reasonable. Lisez la suite
"Great service"
Made feel very welcome by April in reception & Stephanie in the bar
Well satisified with hotel room and service. Evening meal was adequate, nothing outstanding. Breakfast was good. Disappointed to discover on arrival that "Health Club" did not include a swimming pool. Jacuzzi was also disappointing. Steam room or sauna (can't remember which) was not working.
"ambassador hotel"
the staff in the reception bar and breakfast were of very top class nature ,very friendly professional and the bar man was great fun when we returned to the hotel that night. Rooms very comfortable overalll top class experience

"the Ambassador Hotel in Cork"
I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and enjoyed. Staff very helpful, room reasonable size, clean, quiet and comfortable. It is not a modern building but very well maintained. Breakfast selection was great had a choice of buffet / fully cooked breakfast. If you do not include breakfast with your booking you will find the price you pay very good compared […] to other hotels. I dined at the hotel resturant every night because there was no reason to go any where else, the food very good and well priced . It is a nice 15 minute walk into the City and all down hill but I would recommend a taxi back to hotel. If you arrive by car parking at hotel is free. Lisez la suite
TV - still need to upgrade that can get all channels Would like to see that Coffee in the room is replenished daily Overall friendly staff and good quality food
"Reliable"
The hotel is not in the centre of town so it best suits drivers. The staff were great, the facilities reflect the price as in our room was €75 for the night & it was well worth that. The leisure area is great for people travelling on business. The jacuzzi, steam room & sauna are all really clean and nice and quiet. The room was in the older part […] and it was fine. Super clean, beds were comfy & tv worked fine. Nice and peaceful and a reliable place to stay. Lisez la suite
"The Ambassador"
Ok so the hotel is in a nice location, on a hill. City is not far. Walk down and back up is not bad--don't know why people are complaining about the walk up the hill- don't waste your money with a taxi. Now as for the hotel we checked in, the blonde lady was not super nice. We got a smoking room even though was registered for non. If you sat on the […] toilet you were falling right up on the shower. The bulbs did not match and one was burnt out. The overhead light seemed to have dead bugs in them. The bed was CRAZY uncomfortable. The TV remote was broken, but still worked and the TV only got 4 channels. The volume took us most of the night to figure out and the channels were fuzzy. There was no air in the room so it was hot. We were on the second floor and couldn't find the lifts so we had to take our suitcases up the stairs. We stayed in MANY hotels this honeymoon and this one was not worth the price. I would stay there again only if it were free and could not find any place else. There was a different lady when I checked out, dark haired, she was nice. Lisez la suite
"It's not a bad hotel..."
Okay. So this hotel is alright. And I don't mean that as hyperbole, I mean it was just alright. Upon arrival (we were several hours early) we were told there was no way we could check in so early. They were busy and people hadn't yet checked out. This was fine and I totally understood it. But if the roles were reversed, I would offer to take the customer's […] bags, the customer would not have to request that I hold them. It wasn't so much the statement as the inference that I was absurd to assume I could show up so early and get a room. In other words, it lacked hospitality. The shower had paint peeling off of the ceiling. It was a bit much but none fell on my head. All & all, the room was alright and not too expensive so it didn't bother me that much but it was still a bit off. The one thing that did really annoy me was that when we first arrived, I asked if I could get a snack--not a meal, just a snack. They suggested my wife & I go to the restaurant where there was a buffet. I grabbed a small box of cereal and a little milk. My wife grabbed a couple of very basic pastries and some jelly. That cost us about 16 euros. I wanted a snack, not a meal. I thought I'd made that clear but I suppose not. The location is fine. Walking to the city center is easy, walking back is on the difficult side as the hotel is on a hill. But you can take a cab for less than what they charge for a pastry and a box of milk. Apart from a bartender, I didn't find the hotel staff to be particularly warm. They weren't rude, just not particularly hospitable. This stands out more in IE where you take for granted the friendliness which is typically pervasive. If you're looking for an inexpensive hotel and just that, I suppose this would be fine. But I'm not sure you couldn't find something a bit friendlier and a bit nicer for not much more. I'm really not one to criticize. I'm sure they're all good people but basic improvements could be made in terms of paint touch-ups, hospitality and care. Lisez la suite
"Ambassador Hotel , Cork"
Very friendly Staff and Hotel Located 15 minutes from City Centre. Walk back from City to Hotel is up a significant hill - manageable for the fit of heart. Quality of Food was very good and breakfast was excellent , a little pricey at € 11.50 for Full Irish. Television in room did not have all channels working, same as on a previous review. Overall […] had an enjoyable experience and would recommend. Lisez la suite

"nice location handy and convenient"
No problems. Staff good attitude. Great location. Ideal for business or weekend stay.
"The Ambassador Hotel, Cork"
The hotel is a period building located in the North of Cork City. It's relatively easy to access and parking is provided. The staff were friendly and the room and bathroom were exceptionally clean. The food provided was v. good and overall service was excellent and helpful. The major let down is the wireless broadband. While it's available in all rooms, […] the speed never gets beyond 11-12Mbps. After 30mins of trying to access e-mail I just gave up. Lisez la suite
"Scary Drive/Beautiful Hotel"
While for an American, driving through the tiny streets of Cork was a bit terrifying, our destination paid off. The Ambassador is a beautiful old building with a cute bar/lounge and a wonderful view of the city. Our room was huge and we had access to the gym which had plenty of machines to use as well as free weights, stability balls, and mats. Also, […] it's about a 20 minute walk to town which isn't bad at all. Breakfast was odd though; our server basically told us what to order and said not to order a la carte because "no one does that" huh.... Lisez la suite
"Just as beautiful as in the photographs"
The view from the hotel was great and one could see almost all of Cork from the Hotel room itself ,if you get the higher floors. Its a beautiful place with lovely architecture and the building was around 140 years old but very well maintained with charming romantic air to it. The breakfast was also very good and at the reception one of the ladies was […] particularly helpful. Free parking is a bonus. The rooms are also good with all the amenities like tea/coffee maker etc. Cons; About 10-15 minute walk to the city centre or the train station, not particularly difficult, but I would have to recommend taking a cab back( approx 5-6 euros only) as the hotel is located on a hill. "not so hot..."
the building is quite pretty, but that was about the only thing we liked. the folks at the reception desk were simultaneously ingratiating and haughty when first the key cards didn't work, and then, there were no towels in the room. they were also unfriendly when it was pointed out that they brought one set of towels for two people, though they did […] bring another set. also, don't get the breakfast! it was terrible. we ordered omelets, and we received two plates of burnt eggs, each of which was missing toppings. of all the places we stayed in ireland, this was the worst breakfast (and come to think of it worst hotel) by a long shot! "Highly recommended"
I stayed here with my mum and was aware of the 'steep hill' leading to the hotel. It is very steep, but a pleasant walk into town, and cheap taxi ride back to the hotel. The staff were very friendly and seem happy working there. The chamber maids were lovely, very chatty and helpful. Our room was fabulous, only complaint I had was my mum got the double […] bed while I settled for the single which wasn't very comfortable. But, loved, loved loved it!!! Will def stay here again when we return to Cork! Food in the hotel was also very good, although we were never up in time for breakfast lol. Lisez la suite

"Great Hotel - would stay again when visiting Cork"
Great hotel - very comfortable, room was great. There were some very minor things that could have done with being fixed - window curtains not hanging properly on the rails, not all television channels worked, but other than that very good. Breakfast was great. 5-10 minute walk to the train station, though up a very steep hill. Would definitely stay […] here again on my next trip to Cork. Lisez la suite
"Ambassador Hotel. Cork."
Stayed here a number of times both on business and pleasure. Staff have always been courteous. Free ample parking. Rooms large and comfortable. Only negative would be taxi ride down to city centre but reception will organise. Taxi is 7euro. Never had breakfast but bar food is good. I will be back.
"Haven in Cork City"
Had a lovely stay at the Ambassador Hotel, fantastic location, especially if you want to exercise those calf muscles, great views over Cork city and only a 10 minute walk into town. There was also ample parking which was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and clean and comfy. Also a big plus for me, was the lack of […] any nasty perfumy or strong smelling cleaners, the staff were very understanding when I asked them not to use them. The only down side was the internet access in the room which was variable to say the least, I was assured they are working on this and that good access is available in the lobby and bar (which I didnt visit). This may not be an issue for lots of visitors and dont let it put you off. Highly recommend this hotel and will stay there in the future. There are some very good deals available during the week. Lisez la suite
