Un hôtel à recommander uniquement à ceux qui ont le sommeil profond car environnement trop bruyant. Dommage car l'hôtel est bien tenu et le personnel est à la fois agréable et très serviable. Personnel très gentil. Beau buffet au petit-déjeuner. Cependant les prix sont beaucoup trop élevés pour un pays aussi pauvre que l'Inde. A Porbandar j'ai eu une suite beaucoup plus spacieuse à l'hotel HARMONY pour la moitié du prix de celui-ci.

Bel hotel, bien entretenu, calme (j'étais au 8 ième étage) entouré de bidonvilles à deux pas de l'IIT de bombay et à 2heures de la porte d'Inde en période de fort traffic.

Tres accueillant, bon service pour nous aider a trouver un taxi chauffeur 4 jours, quoique un peu cher et sans chauffeur anglophone, donc avons du insister pour changer, mais toute la reception a beaucoup aide d'autant plus que je voyageais avec ma fille de 8 ans. Une heure 30 du centre ville.... par contre.

Despite the fact that the hotel is lost somewhere in the Mumbai suburbs (45mins from Churchgate), our overall impression was good. Staff was very kind and helpful, the room was quite large and definitely big enough to hold a business meeting. On the down side, Internet access is not free (except if your provider is Tata, or Orange) and wifi doesn't work all the time.

Agréablement surpris par l'accueil chaleureux mais aussi par son confort et sa propreté. L'hotel est bien situé, rue commercante (sarees, etc..) et proche de l'aéroport.
Situation
Dans le quartier de Colaba à Mumbai, cet hôtel qui porte le nom de The Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai est très pratique pour les voyageurs d'affaires et se trouve tout près de Gateway of India, Musée du Prince de Galles et Tour Rajabai. Fontaine Flora et Galerie nationale d'art moderne se trouvent également à proximité.
Caractéristiques de l'établissement

Le quartier du Fort est le point central de Mumbai. Ce fut jadis le haut lieu de l'activité commerciale et administrative. Certains des principaux sites financiers et d'autres bureaux y sont encore aujourd'hui domiciliés. Le quartier de Churchgate se trouve à proximité de Nariman Point, l'une des zones les plus développées de la ville. Churchgate tient son nom de la célèbre gare éponyme. Horniman Circle est le coeur du quartier du Fort. Ses édifices gothiques et victoriens évoquent l'histoire de l'empire britannique. L'hôtel de ville (Town Hall), un imposant bâtiment néoclassique, domine le Horniman Circle. Les amateurs d'art indien pourront visiter la galerie d'art Jehangir, un espace très connu dans la ville, juste à côté du musée Prince of Wales. Parmi les autres monuments importants, on compte la fontaine Flora, la gare Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (anciennement Victoria Terminus), le Municipal Corporation Building et l'Université de Mumbai avec sa tour Rajabai.

Le grand atout de l'hotel est sa situation au bord de mer et le service du personnel. Nous avions une chambre Deluxe dans la Tour qui était bien. Un rafraichissement de la chambe est désirée. Les restaurants sont excellents. L'hotel est trés sécurisé. Un classique.
"Pourquoi je ne mets pas 5 partout"
Il faut garder en tête que cet remarque porte sur le fait que je ne mets pas 5/5 partout, ce qui en dit long sur la qualité de l'hôtel tout de même. Donc en gros si vous pouvez vous le permettre, allez-y les yeux fermés, ne serait-ce que pour ce que représente cet hôtel. Cependant je mets 4 au confort de la chambre, parce qu'elle n'est pas du niveau […] d'un Palace, mais d'un hotel 5* comme il en existe beaucoup en Inde. Par exemple la salle de bain était assez petite et la décoration n'avait rien de luxueuse. Ceci n'est valable que parce que j'avais une chambre dans la tour, les chambres du palace même méritent toute un 5/5. La contrepartie c'est que c'est plus abordable. Pour le service, je lui fais le même reproche qu'à chaque fois en Inde, il est trop présent. Par exemple, je ne trouve pas pertinent qu'on vous envoie un type pour ranger la chambre, un autre pour remplir le mini-bar et remettre des fruits sur la table et même un autre pour venir fermer les rideaux quand la nuit tombe ! c'est bien quand vous n'êtes pas dans la chambre (au moins quand vous revenez tout est nikel), mais quand vous êtes dans la chambre ça dérange. Et dans la tour de l'hôtel, il n'y a pas de système d'interrupteur comme dans le palace pour indiquer que vous êtes dedans, ce qui éviterait le dérangement. Lisez la suite

"Perfect location - close to everything"
Excellent service, best ever received and we have stayed at many hotels around the world. Restaurants are excellent, especially the one on the top floor and the Indian restaurant. Staff are polite and friendly and really ensure that you are happy. Walking distance to just about everything including the shopping market and the boats.

Staying at this world class hotel is a must at least once in a lifetime. This is especially true of a club room with high tea in the afternoon and cognac and chocolates in the evening in their sea lounge. Luxury and olde world charm all the way.

The service here was just too much. I couldn't sit in peace. I put the do not disturb sign on my room but still they would call and slip notes under my door several times/day. At breakfast about 10 waiters came to my table even after I told them to leave me alone. On the ride to the airport, the hotel taxi driver (which is 10 times the cost of a normal […] taxi) tried to divert me to a gift shop. Great location, good facilities, but I couldn't get left alone at this place. I don't think they get it. In India, people bother me all day because I'm a foreigner. The Taj Palace Hotel cannot be described is has to be experienced .. The Gateway of India just in front of the Hotel .. the rooms luxurious ... the restaurant (we have been to the Indian Food ... offers authentic and delicious food ... and incredible service Major sites are all around the corner ... marine drive Victoria Station Flora Fountain etc.

The Taj Mumbai has all the facilities and ambience of its reputation but the service exceeds expectations. There is the minor inconvenience of having to go through security to get into the hotel, but on a Saturday night this can provide an amusing opportunity to guess which of the impeccably dressed patrons queuing with you is an ornament of Mumbai […] society. For what is supposed to be THE hotel in Mumbai (and having paid those kind of rates), I was pretty unimpressed. The location is convenient, but I'm sure there are plenty of other fine accomodations nearby. If I stay in Mumbai again and am spending this kind of money, I would probably try one of the newer hotels on Nariman Point.

Stay here if you get a good rate. I kinda felt discriminated within the hotel, because if you are staying at the tower, you are treated as less as if you were staying at the old palace. That was not so nice. If you get a good rate, stay here, otherwise stay at the Trident. I love that place.

We had an amazing stay in the Taj Palace, helped by the fact we were upgraded from a tower room to one in the palace. The room was incredible and service impeccable. The hotel is like a museum and we spent the afternoon just walking the corridors and marvelling at the decor and antiques. Is a beautiful hotel , an icon amongst hotels . Reflects a standard of a bygone era almost. The buffet breakfast by the pool was a delight and the security and comfort first class. For the price I think is value for money , is an experience that is memorable , delightful stay thank you taj ....

We decided to stay at this hotel purely due to its reputation as being the 'landmark' hotel at mumbai. We were truly disappointed!!!!! Service was questionable to say the least. What's worse is the quality of the rooms! The rooms were in desperate need of a renovation and we were provided with a box television! For a 5 star hotel and a premium price […] per night, it was just totally not acceptable. Never staying there again and 100% NOT recommended. The room had a lot of noise from the elevators, I had just arrived from a 16 Hour flight and couldn't sleep . The room had no desk, so I had to work on a coffee table, the internet was slow and they had blocked the ports so I couldn't use my IP phone on my laptop. Stayed in a tower room. Room was outdated, very disappointing. Dirty, old carpet. Paint flaking off some furntiture. Outdated small box TV. In short, room was awful. ....it really is a five start hotel. i only saw the palace area and it was amazing. we were lucky enough to stay on the club floor . if you want to be treated to a lovely warm experience and have a peaceful lovely time-out from hectic india ...this is it. beautiful, tasteful ...we had such a great experience here.

The Taj Mahal Mumbai was the first hotel for the Taj hotel chain and in it's day, it was amazing. Due to security following the terrorist event the Gateway to India is not what it was and my hotel room was very tired. Two twin beds pushed together when a King was confirmed and the service in the hotel was as slow as a boat to Goa. It was difficult to […] sleep with the honking and a rooster woke me up at 5:00 am. Taj Mumbai is fabulous. The arquitecture, the interiors,the decor, the inside pool, the rooms, the view to india gate. Although you find strict security measures ( there's a surrounding perimeter of safety that not even the cabs are allowed to enter and you and your lugage are totaly scaned ) the hotel staff are very friendfuly and helpfull to minimize […] such a nuissance. The hotel is very close to india gate and to the ferries to sight see elefant island. On a 20m walk you get to see some of the most relevant buildings of british times. The hotel location is also splendid. You are very close to shops, restaurants, streets . Cabs fare are negotiable and you can sight see renting one a day, very cheap. There isn't much to say other than this is the best hotel i have ever stayed at, and i travel a ton. the amenities are great but the service is unbelievable. just be prepared to pay US prices for everything, even more for their restaurants. a soup and a soda water at their chinese restaurant runs about 25USD, and drinks are on average 15USD.

The lobby is simply amazing, however our room (in the tower) was no more than you would expect from a good mid-priced hotel in Europe. Everything is very expensive, but the staff in the bars and restaurants are amazing. However I found the place rather soulless. Simple touches (such as replacing teas, coffees and toiletries) were missed. Our fridge […] stopped working after a day, bizarre for a hotel of this reputation. The rooms were disgusting. I have no idea who said that this is a 5 star hotel, but its more like a 3 at best. Maybe the ratings are different overseas, but thishotel s no where near 5 star.
