"Good location"
It is near to Union Square. Personally, I love walking so i walked to Union Square from the hotel. But, there is a bus stop near by so you can take a bus. If you never beed to San Francisco, you will be surprise that parking is expensive and it is hard to fine one in certain area. So I highly recommend to park your car in a garage(There is a parking […] garage that you can get a discount after you check in the hotel. An this time was the worst experience of all. I couldnt find the street parking and I paid $20 for the overnight parking. I could pay $14 per night because if I could find the street parking and check in the hotel first, then I could park at a cheaper place. Anyway, you have to add parking fee + hotel fee. You have to pay parking seperately almost all hotels in San Francisco, so I highly recommen to call hotels and find out the rates first before you book a hotel. Besides the parking, I really enjoyed SF! I went there by myself as a road trip, and I enjoyed so much. Mithila hotel was my choice because of the location and economical price. I wouldnt spend much money on hotels, especially when i'm on traveling myself for 2weeks. Anyway if you r looking for a cheap but not "too cheap" hotel, i would stay this hotel. Neighborhood was safe and nice. Lisez la suite

"okay for price"
the hotel is old so if one room is cold you can't just adjust the heat the manager has to adjust the entire biuldings heat. their is not parking lot or garage its street parking which ireally a good idea since there are times every day were no cars are allowed on the street. So the closest garage is 2.5 -3.0 blocks away and it cost 15.00 per day. The […] hotel does have old san fransisco charm but had I known I would have to walk everywhere I went I would not have chose this hotel. Lisez la suite

"Great value for location (friendly people too)"
As long as the stayer understands this is a "value" hotel and not a "four star" hotel, the Mithilia Hotel was perfect. The location was excellent for people who like cities and enjoy being in the heart of it even if it is not the "glitz and glitter" of the downtown. The folks working at the hotel were friendly and thoughtful. The amenities were basic, […] but because I was staying in San Francisco to be out and about and not in my room, they were fine. "Very very average"
An average hotel. Excellent location and very good price, but the room wasn't great. The remote did not work for the TV and there was a leak in the bathroom. Also, there was no cold water in the taps!In fairness, the water issue was fixed after informing staff twice! I met two different staff members and one of them was extremely short whenever I dealt […] with him, but the other was excellent. Overall, average for a budget traveller. Lisez la suite
"convenient, not posh"
OK, not fancy, but good value.
"not happy"
This hotel is horrible. It's dirty and so noisy. I booked a room for 2 nights but was only able to stay one. Woke up the next morning and the first thing I did was look for another hotel to stay the remaining of my weekend. Before I book another hotel I had ask the staff if they could move me to another room where its more quieter and they said no. […] I couldn't even sleep at all, woke up the next day all tired and sore. So I say DON'T STAY at this hotel you will regret it. Lisez la suite

"Staying Close to Union Square"
Each time I visit San Francisco, I try a different hotel but always maintain staying as close as possible to Union Square. I usually walk during my visits but as my most recent trip was partly for business, I hired a driver for part of the duration of my stay. Having to pay for both myself and my driver, I opted for a more economical hotel which seemed […] to have all the ticks, as published on their website. Priorities of my trip was that it was close to Union Square, where my meetings were held (or within close vicinity), complimentary breakfast, and parking for my driver's vehicle. Although the rooms were not originally part of my consideration, I did expect the minimal cleanliness level of a basic motel standard. I was very disappointed that the rooms were extremely old and not well maintained. San Francisco is an old but beautiful city and although all the buildings in the city are old, the many refurbishments have kept the insides of these beautiful structures well up to today's times. This hotel did not do any justice to the very good location it was in. I was also extremely inconvenienced by the parking issues I had with my driver's vehicle. One of the main concerns I had was the need for parking and on this hotel's website, it stated that parking was easily available on the street. As I'm not local to San Francisco and do not drive, I didn't realise I needed to enquire further about the rules of parking around the hotel. I simply assumed it would not be an issue since it was one of the attractions featured on the hotel's website. My poor driver had to move his vehicle every couple of hours and during our one week stay, we received 2 parking tickets. The complimentary breakfast was of very poor standard too and most mornings we opted for coffee at Starbucks instead as what the hotel offered was not appetising at all. I have to say I expected a clean, basic motel, but ended up in a rather dingy place, not wanting to mention what else goes on in the hotel! P Lisez la suite

"Hotel Mithila in San Francisco"
Close to Union Square with funky coffee shops and restaurants on Sutter and Geary Streets and yes, it's quiet! Rooms are small, very basic but clean. Hotel could do with new carpeting!! Hotel staff very friendly and helpful.
"hotel Mithila, basic but adequate for a short stay"
I was looking for a hotel that was fairly central but without paying top prices. I knew we were only in San Francisco for three days so would be out and about all day. The hotel was therefore only meant to be somewhere to sleep. The hotel mithila was very basic, but ticked the box as far as location and price was concerned. Yes it was a bit smelly, […] yes it was very old and in need of a refurbishment, but for the price it was OK and probably what I expected. The guy on hotel reception was pleasant, polite and informative, which again was all we wanted. The breakfast was nothing to write home about, a coffee pot with some very small muffins and pastries, which if you were up after 8, then the coffee had gone. There are plenty of coffee shops nearby though so easy enough to just pop out for one. All in all I would only recommend this hotel if you are prepared to "rough it", and especially if you plan to be out of your room a lot. Its not the place to be if you like home comforts, being waited on by hotel staff, and nice big comfortable rooms. Lisez la suite

"You get what you pay for"
I had a one night stay in SF and decided to save a few $s. My mistake. Positives: nice guy working there, old building charm, 10 minute walk to where I needed to go. Negatives: the charm ended at the front door and possbly the old school lift. The hallway carpet had black with wear trails and smelled like a cross between mildew and urine. I was only […] informed at check in that the bathroom was down a floor and at the other end of hotel. That made for a disgusting trip back to my room after showering along the aforementioned hall carpet. The room was tiny, which I don't mind, but the curtains were old, ripped, dirty and falling off. The view from my window was a tiny trash lined courtyard with surrounding dilapidated buildings. The bed had a bad mattress and bedding. There was no thermostat in the room, and maybe it was just me, but the room was cold when I went to bed and got too hot before dawn. Anyway, like I said, you get what you pay for. If you are on a tight budget and can overlook the unpleasantries, then pull the trigger. Next time I'm spending more... Lisez la suite

"just what we were looking for"
The hotel staff was very helpful and the room was very clean. My wife and I were a little leary of the bird cage elevator but we had fun just relaxing be for my surgery would stay their again . thank you.
"Hotel Mithila in San Francisco"
It was cheap, so I should have known, but...1)They said it had a fridge, microwave and TV, which it did - but I expected it to have an outlet to plug them in. 2)There was a bathroom in the room, but I didn't expect the toilet seat to be worn through with splinters sticking out. Ouch! 3)It had two windows - one which looked onto a wall, and the other […] which looked out on a "courtyard" which had been turned into the local garbage dump - full (and I do mean full) of broken tools, refrigerators, and other scrap metal, etc. 4)FILTHY floors, thin sheets (I was afraid to give it the "60 Minutes bedbug inspection"; I decided that I just would prefer not to know.), partially-used personal toiletries in the bathroom, etc. Why? you may ask did we stay there instead of finding another hotel. We checked in at 10:00PM on the 4th of July weekend and decided to spend the night - touching as little as possible - and get out in the early A.M. - without partaking of the complimentary continental breakfast. "Not Fancy but Adequate"
During our recent stay in San Francisco, we stayed at the Mithila Hotel. If you're looking for fancy then you'll want to look elsewhere, but it was clean and adequate. The rooms are on the small side, but so are most that I've stayed at in SF.
"Mithila hotel- great for the price you pay"
This hotel was at a decent location, walking distance to union square, had bus stops right outside which was great for us because we commuted the whole time we were there. The hotel itself was a little bit rundown, and it smelt like Indian food, but the service and helpfulness of the staff was phenomenal. They helped map out our routes and helped us […] navigate through the city and its attractions. Breakfast that is provided is very basic, don't expect a full meal, but it's enough to get you through the morning. If you intend on staying in your room and relaxing in a nice suite, this is not the hotel for you. But if like us, you just need a decent place to sleep, change and leave your stuff in while you sightsee, then it's perfect- and it's very affordable! Lisez la suite

"loved it!"
Very cozy old city feel. I just love the charm of these old buildings right in the heart of the city. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was so comfortable I slept in too long =) 8 will surely stay here again
"Bad hotel!"
This placed stunk! The bed spread was full of burn holes, the TV had only 15 basic channels of which only 6 actually worked the others either had no clear picture, no sound or were waiting for input. The bed was as hard as a wood plank with a paper thin mattress. The clerk was friendly and nice but advertise the rooms “share” a bathroom (implying that […] they are adjacent to each other) when really the bathroom is on another floor is hardly ethical. I did "upgrade" to get a “deluxe” room with a private bathroom, but if this room was this bad I can't imagine what the original room was like. The carpet had stains in it. The microwave was unplugged so I'm not sure it worked and only stayed one night there so never got around to check it out or to find out if there was heat in the room. I didn't find it when I was trying to sleep. I will give them credit for having free Wi-Fi but that and the friendly counter clerk is not enough to save this from a big "No-way would I ever recommend this to anyone”. Lisez la suite

"Inexpensive but clean and convenient"
The hotel's 5 blocks from Union Square. It's small with only a couple dozen rooms. But the hotel has been renovated within the last 10 years so even though it's an older building the rooms are in good condition. The room is small but conveniently arranged. The manager/receptionist was quite friendly and very helpful. We've sampled a number of the smaller […] older hotels in the area over the years. And we'll gladly return to the Mathila. Lisez la suite
"nice guest"
This hotel caters to just guest. Everything was great for the price, but the walk up form the civic center up hyde to the hotel. It would be a better walk to go to powell st and take sutter to the hotel.
"The only place I'd stay..."
The dates are actually wrong, I ended up staying at the Mithila Hotel from Monday (5/9) until Friday morning (5/13). My purpose was only to be there for two nights as I was working out the leasing arrangements for an apartment. The apt. process was slow so I ended up staying longer, and it really turned about to be more of a blessing than I could imagine! […] Tim, one of the hotel clerks, was a classy gentleman, performed great customer service and was EXTREMELY ACCOMMODATING!!!!! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Don't let the 2 star rating fool you. Nevertheless, to each his own, but I will say this as a disclaimer: If your the type of person that is low maintenance, has a low budget and not picky then this is the place for you! If your the opposite, then go somewhere else. As for me, the Mithila gave me all that I needed - a place to stay while I was in transition, flexible policy, service with a smile, and a family atmosphere. Truly this is the only place I'd stay in San Francisco, CA... RHS Lisez la suite
"Mithilda Hotel San Francisco"
Very good value for a very reasonable price: Room and bath was clean, bed was good, all the advertised amenities had been provided.
"Hotel Mathila, San Francisco"
Hotel Mathila is a very quaint B&B in the heart of the 7 hills. It is nestled between the financial district, Nob Hill and Chinatown, just south of Fisherman's Wharf. Though the area is shabby and the hotel itself was built in 1920, there are many small restaurants and grocery stores close by. It was a perfect stop for the venue we attended. We had […] a short, 3 city block walk to the Regency Ballroom. The Mosconi Center is nearby as well. BE AWARE- parking is non-existent! We made the mistake of thinking we could quickly unload the car in front of the hotel and our car was towed away in 12 minutes. It cost a small fortune to get it out of the impound and the cost of the parking ticket. We were lucky in that he yard was close and the entire transaction with paying and returning to the hotel was complete in 45 minutes. The hotel does have a contract with an indoor parking garage a block away . The next cheapest and closest was more and the car would have been outside. The Mathila was very well kept. The room though small was clean and the linens were new. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The price was unbelievably inexpensive. The next closest hotel was 3X what we paid. Lisez la suite
"Rooms the size of prison cells"
My husband and I thought we had found a great deal. The location was wonderful, price was fair, and who can beat the advertised free parking? The only catch is the whole place is a sham. Aside from the convienent location, the hotel was awful. Free parking is available...if you can find it. Since the street is always full, good luck. There is no elevator, […] only a bird cage. The hallways are only large enough for one person to go through, so maneuvering around other guests was difficult to say the least. Not to mention the random bathroom/shower that is located in the hallway for guests who do not have one in their room. The room itself is the size of a prison cell. No soap to even wash your hands and a notable smell was present. Overall, the worst hotel stay ever. I would wager that this "hotel" was a former hostel that was poorly changed. Lisez la suite

"Great Location and Good Deal"
the guy at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. He told us about coffee and pastries for breakfast (there was not a huge selection but we didn't expect that). He also informed us of the best places to park (because they do not have a hotel).
"The Mithilia - for the price no complaints"
Small economy hotel, don't expect a lot of extra's or luxury. It is older, but kept very clean and the staff was extremely nice. For the price, absolutely no complaints. The hotel front door is kept locked at all times for security and guests are given a key. The room had free wireless internet that worked the entire time I was there.
