The Surrey - New York

We chose this hotel partly for the great location, a short walk to Central Park, the Guggenheim, and the Met, and a fear of bedbugs in a lesser hotel. And we actually looked with a flashlight under the mattress! Hands down the cleanest underside of a hotel mattress I’ve ever seen! The sheets were at least 700 thread count. The Duxiana bed was a bit […] on the firm side, but had enough give that we slept very comfortably. The standard pillows are too stuffed, but our request for smaller pillows was met. The down comforter was rather heavy for mild April weather. We requested 2 extra cotton blankets, and although heavy, this was fine. There is some traffic noise even up on the 12th floor, but the air conditioner acted as a quiet white noise machine, so I didn’t notice the sirens and honking that much. We were in 1214, a corner room, with wonderful morning sunlight, blocked by thick roller shades. The internet access is too much. Free NY Times every day, even on Sunday. The shower was fantastic. We did run out of hot water a couple of times in the late afternoon or evening. Plenty of nice towels (except they ran out of washcloths one day). Bathrobes and slippers. Top notch toiletries in the bath: shampoo, conditioner, liquid body soap, bar soap and wonderful, mildly scented body lotion. The food was expensive, but good. As a woman who travels a great deal alone, the Surrey is absolutely perfect for being near all the important places on NY's Upper East Side. From the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to Central Park, and the Guggenheim, plus Madison Avenue shopping, it is within walking distance of it all. I particularly appreciated the care and concern exhibited by the […] staff, and the hotel's safety features. They could not have been more accommodating. My room was bright, large, beautifully decorated, and had an elegant feel to it. The ammenities included were more than some of the other 5-Star hotels I have stayed in, adding that perfect touch to my NYC stay! I look forward to returning! Lisez la suite

Fantastic Hotel, cool, stylish, clean and plush, large rooms. Staff more than happy to help, also cocktail bar is great. Nice neighbourhood, right near Central Park. A bit far from cool bars and restaurants in south but only a 10 min $12ish cab ride away. Would defo stay again.

Nice weather, cleaned & first class services ..even restaurant !!!

This is a recently renovated upper east side hotel, the beds are superb, the rooms large and the hotel has a nice comfortable feel being modern but not over trendy. Along with a very good restaurant and bar I can definately say this is my New York hotel of choice.

Outstanding, boutique-like hotel. Great service and neighborhood.

My wife and I spent the weekend in NYC and choose the Surrey because we like to stay at different hotels each time we visit. I have to say the stay at the Surrey was great. From the moment we arrived the staff was very egar to help us with anything we need. Theatre tickets, dinner reservations etc. all done for us by the staff. The room was very nice […] although the view was not good (Mechanical Equipment) but overall the room was very clean and spacious. Having looked around NYC and what may be 100+ hotels, The Surrey stood out as something a bit special. Perfect location between 5th Ave and Madison, Ave, and just yards from Central Park. I surprised my girlfriend by bringing her to NYC, and planned to propose to her in NYC during our time there. I contacted The Surrey setting the tone and reason of […] our stay, and they could not be more helpful. Rose petal turndown, fancy truffles, and champagne was all fixed with emails before our arrival. Our room was upgraded and the entire hotel staff went above and beyond the call of duty. The hotel is in a perfect location, and is very classy. The concierge's are just brilliant, and having stayed all over the world in numerous hotels, this experience at The Surrey is easily in my Top 3. If you want a romantic and class hotel in a top area of NYC (Upper East Side) then this is where you should be staying. If you have any doubts, then don't, this hotel and the staff excel in making your stay in NYC as amazing as possible. I will recommend this to anyone going to NYC, and although it may be pricier than staying in Tribeca/Soho, Times Sq, or anywhere else, you really get what you pay for at this hotel. Stayed here when I planned to propose. Concierge full of ideas, they even sent free champagne after they found out she said yes. Room service breakfast from cafe Boulud was pricey but amazing. By nyc standards room size is generous. Primo location near Met museum & the park. A Tasteful hotel. Wish I could afford it more often!

Our stay at The Surrey was by far the best stay we have had at any hotel in NYC. It is luxurious, super clean, convenient and overall, so comfortable, we were happy just to hang out in our room (which was a really nice size). The lobby bar was also a wonderfully relaxing place to have a drink after a long day of walking. The staff was warm and helpful […] with anything we needed. We generally stay anywhere 3 stars or above runnning a good special, but now, I don't know if we'd ever stay anywhere else again! I highly recommend The Surrey! Lisez la suite

Our corner room was on the top (16th) floor with a view of the city (not the park). The king bed was very comfortable. The shower was large and had a nice forceful spray. We loved the fact that we could dim each light fixture individually and turn them all on or off at once. The design of the hotel, based on Art Deco, is sophisticated and the staff […] are friendly. We enjoyed a very good snack in the hotel bar and dinner in Cafe Boulud. The location near museums and the Lexington subway line was perfect for us. We hope to return soon. Lisez la suite

This is a good quality hotel in a decent location. The rooms are well presented - if a little on the small side (I normally stay in places like the Setai, where the equivalent rooms have much more generous proportions). The major let down was the service received from the staff on the front desk (the other staff were much better). Virtually every […] request had to be chased. One simple request, to remove a faulty ironing board from my room (it couldn't be collapsed and was therefore taking up a huge amount of space), had to be chased 3 times and still wasn't actioned. On each occasion they said "yes sir, we'll do it right away" but on none of these occasions, despite my chasing, did they actually do anything. This was particularly frustrating as it was night time by this point and, feeling somewhat jet lagged, I just wanted to go to sleep - this was delayed by over an hour due to their failure to send someone to remove the ironing board. In the end I had to roam the hallway to find someone who would help - eventually finding a delightful housekeeping lady who dealt with it immediately (if only the front desk had her attitude). Their senior guest relations staff dealt with the situation well, but I shouldn't have needed to speak with them in the first place. They also sent a letter of apology and a bottle of wine to my room which was appreciated as a gesture (although I had to leave the wine behind I was flying the next morning with hand luggage only). This would have led me to give the hotel 3 stars for service but the front desk then sought to overcharge me (and my colleague too) on checking out. In doing so they only showed me the bill when I asked for it. When I identified a blatant double charge they first sought to defend it (giving the impression that they considered me to be stupid in raising it). It was my hoonymoon I stayed there between 24 and 28th of October first they offered me an upgrade to a suite room 401 for a reasonable raise the room was super clean and spacious. The bed don't let me start talking about it, its waaaaaaaaw The hotel staff were very nice Every thing was perfect My massage to the hotel manger is free Internet is a must […] and it will be great if u offer a complementary ride to the time square Thanx the surry ur the best . Very accommodating at the front desk. In a pricey part of town, but worth it if you want to have a less hectic time in the city. Easy access to the metro and almost next to Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum. Will stay there again.

Best hotel experience I've ever had. The staff was friendly, approachable, helpful and warm. Clearly customer service is important to the management of this hotel, and as a customer I noticed and appreciated it!

The Surrey is a 4 boardering on 5 star boutique hotel in the quiet upper East 70's between Madison and 5th Avenues less than one block, that's right less than ONE BLOCK from Central Park. This is one of the toneyist sections of NYC so don't expect a lower east side hipster vibe or a bunch of rowdy wall streeters or college kids hanging out in the area […] lounges. The lobby, elevators, hallways and rooms are exquisitely and tastefully appointed and very comfortable. My bathroom was marble and glass and the shower water pressure was perfect. The rooftop bar and restaurant (which is one of the best hotel restaurants in the city) are fabulous as is the neighborhood which boasts some of the best high end dining and shopping options in town..There are also some reasonalbly priced cafe options near by..The staff is attentive, very helpful and courteous without being annoyingly over the top (which is a pet peeve of mine)...Bonus: On weekends you can park all day and night on Madison Ave for free and avoid the $54 a day hotel valet charge.(Garage self parking can be even more expensive in this part of town so on the weekdays just give your car to the hotel valet!!)...This is definately my first choice in this part of NYC which happens to be my favorite part of the city. One thing to remember, this is a 4 star property in NYC therefore it's expensive but a much better deal than similar 4 and 5 star options. If this is what you're looking for, it's well worth it.... Very clean, personable staff, nice location and good food. A wonderful hotel. I will definitely stay again.

Impecable service, from opening doors with smiles, to the amazing massage and scrubs!!! Beautiful rooms and very large… King bed with a large round table and 2 large comfy chairs… I stay at 5 star resorts always, and this is definitely a 5 star hotel in NYC… Only issue was the absence of a pool on such hot days… The rooftop bar was cozy and relaxing […] and really beautiful in the evening… True enjoyment here. I have been staying at The Surrey for over 15 years, both before the renovation and after it was done. The location is great, 76th and Madison, and the renovated hotel is spectacular. The roof is a great place for drinks and light food, and the view is terrific. It's my first choice for the Upper East Side!

As it was to be my first trip to NYC, I booked The Surrey Hotel after reviewing the pictures on their website. I was looking for a chic and classic hotel with a modern twist which still radiated warmth and comfort. On arrival I was not disappointed! The Surrey Hotel was everything and more. The rooms are very spacious, bed is wonderfully comfortable […] and showers are to die for. The Hotel Surrey is located between 5th and Madison street so all the high end fashion stores are a stroll away. The iconic Boathouse in central park is a mere 7 minutes walk and the train station is located within 0.5 km from the hotel. After a manic day shopping you can retire to the rooftop terrace for sun downers and take in the magnificent view of central park and Manhattan. The staff friendliness, service received and attention to detail ensured that I will definitely be booking into The Surrey when I return to NYC. Lisez la suite

I stayed at the Surrey two nights during consecutive weeks and it is now my home away from home. I absolutely love the elegance of the hotel and the neighborhood it is in. Being able to sleep at night is a plus because the sounds of police cars, ambulances, etc are not to be heard.

I love the Surrey. The beds are so super comfy and they have a great rooftop deck where they serve drinks. it is also three blocks away from my favorite cafe in NYC -- Via Quadronna. Enjoy!

Charmed and delighted by my stay at The Surrey. My best stay in New York ever. True, all acomodations were perfect but even more impressive was the quality of service from the entire personel. Never encountered before. I will go back.

This hotel is in a great location and is absolutely gorgeous. My room was fantastic, clean and had a nice view. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel. The rooftop has wonderful views too.

Having stayed at most NYC hotels, I can say that The Surrey hotel was one of the nicest hotels. The area was quiet and a good walk to Times Square. The service was excellent from the doorman to the reservation desk. I would stay there again! Now, there were 2 small problems: upon entering the room, there was an empty beer bottle that the cleaning staff […] over looked, and I left a shoe in the room upon checkout. Beautifully decorated and friendly staff. Pratesi sheets, great tv and sound system, marble bathroom. Very happening bar downstairs and Bouley to eat dinner. Doesn't get better then this, even in Gossip Girl.

The hotel is fabulous. They cut no corners on the renovation. The staff were professional and helpful. It is a very classy, comfortable high end, luxury boutique hotel experience. Wish we could have stayed longer!! An added perk was that we reserved a Queen Deluxe and were given a King suite.
