Castaways Beach Resort - Daytona Beach

Staff was friendly and accommodating. Rooms are privately owned, so quality can vary greatly. Beach access was very nice, it seemed less busy than most other areas. Area seemed a little seedy, with several abandoned resorts nearby.

Spaceous room and very clean. The only complaints I have is that the halls on the 4th foor (where we stayed) smelled like cigarettes, bathroom wallpaper peeling and the room was very muggy which is not uncommon for an oceanfront hotel. This was a nice enough hotel. It's not in Daytona beach, it's south so it's a bit of a drive to the main part of Daytona Beach. The pool is very nice and it is right on the ocean, so that is great. The rooms were small but ok. Some parts of the hotel had been sold out, like condos, so people live there year round.

nothing was as advertised in hotel description actually not a hotel at all. people live there and each room is owned by someone else no resterant or night club, steam room as they said, game room and exercise room was a joke. front desk closes at 5 so no towels on our return to "hotel" had to go buy some for all of us...beds were murphy beds very hard […] to sleep on bedspreads had horrible stains on them. our stay was a nightmare Lisez la suite

This hotel had a new manager that had only been on the job for 2 weeks. The front desk seemed very unorganized and confused. The first roon they gave us was terrible. The television didn't work and the carpet was filthy. After changing to a different room the accomidations were quite nice. I would stay there again hoping the management was more org […] anized. this is a great place for the family to stay i loved the full kitchen the room was clean and quiet more than i can say for the hilton down the road where i stayed the night before and found empty beer cans and other trash in my room and it cost me three times as much

lot of rust every where. hard furniture, and bed hard time sleeping in the bed, i towell each we had to dry towel for next shower, no room service, we left early and went to another hotel, we were there in daytona beach for bike week 2011, the resturant had good food and good service

Modest condo hotel with a lot of full time residents who are very friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and comfortable. Great ocean view and balcony. I travel for a living and stay in hotels and resorts all over the United States. Big cities and small towns alike. This was by far the worst place I have ever stayed. Actually the worst condition I have ever slept in my entire life. At check in they didnt even have my reservation on file. That took about 30 minutes. Then they didnt even have the availability […] for the room I booked so I was put in a different room. The hotel smells like rotting corpses. When I got home all of our belongings smelled the same way. I had to go out and buy cleaning chemicals to take the small off our things. The place was fifthly dirty. The balcony door was so rusted and busted down that my wife could hardly open it herself. The key card didnt even work on it. It just had a little slide bolt that keep anyone from easily coming in. The people staying there were pretty rough but we adapted to that. The day we checked out, Sunday, there were local people just laying around and using the pool. It is very easy for them since all the gates surrounding pool are broken. The hotel is fairly cheep I guess but you can stay many other places for the same price thats better. A tent on the side of the road would be better. Also the pictures do not reflect the hotel! It looks nothing like those pictures. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. Lisez la suite

This is an older facility and is undergoing significant maintenance at the moment. The rooms are an outstanding value and the one we had this time had a full kitchen including a 2 burner stove, microwave and full size refrigerator. Beds are new and very comfortable. TV service sucks, not having any of the ESPN channels but we weren't in the room except […] when we were asleep or getting ready to go out so not a serious problem. The door was broken...no security what so ever. There was NO ROOM service what so ever. I tired calling the front desk which they NEVER picked up. The sheets always felt moist. I think there was mold in the hotel. i do not recommend this hotel to anyone!

The room we received had wet and dirty carpet, had to wear shoes the whole time, the walls were disgusting, a coat of paint would have help, the front says no rooms available, but our friend stopped and they said they had plenty, she saw the room and refused.Found out later each room is privately owned, theses owners need to make repairs, the staff […] said its up to the owners. Great hotel and great service. Its not the Hilton by no means but for the money it was great. I would go here again and I would recommend the hotel to friends and family.

Room was not as clean as I expected. The A/C didn't work in the first room that was assigned to me and had to demand another, staff was not very willing to accommodate. The remote didn't work. Leaky plumbing. Room didn't face the beach as described. Vending machines weren't stocked.

It was a nice hotel. You can't beat the price for a hotel by the beach. I would most likely stay there again. One thing, they give you these car decals that you must have visiable, if you don't, you're car will be towed. But not by the hotel, a tow truck makes it's rounds all the time. The hotel was clean and efficient. It had everything I needed for my weekend getaway, and it was right on the beach which was a plus to me.

I wasn't sure what to expect because it's an older resort that's under new mangement & being updated but it had good comments online. It was very good & we'll stay there again & recommend it. But there was a bit of a problem the A/c unit was very loud & I have problems sleeping in the best of circumstances. We knew, given the price, there would not be any bells and whistles at this hotel but it was REALLY run down. It is right on the beach, close to a supermarket and has a fab pool (new). You will need a car to go for dinner and into the main part of Daytona Beach (the hotel is actually in Daytona Beach Shores which is quieter). However the rooms are really […] run down. The housekeeping service is poor. Insects in the room. Last straw was when my 3 year old, while looking for a crayon under the dresser, found two pairs of dirty mens underpants! Would be an excellent hotel if they would get an exterminator! The staff was great.

It is hard to make an older facility like the Castaways perfect but the owners are trying very hard to overcome the age of the facility. Clean room, nice little kitchenette, outstanding swimming pool and great beach location made our three day stay a pleasure, especially given the great price.

I was pleasantly surprised - after reading the reviews I was kind of scared, BUT I needed to get away from the stress of my job and everyday life. The pool area was excellent and the rooms were not to bad - no oven, but you get pretty creative. The ONLY complaint that I could mention was the smell in the hallways - some mornings it smelled horrible […] - but sometimes there was no smell at all. Over all, for the money - it was great! I understand that the hotel is under new management. Over all the room was clean. Housekeeping did a good job but The building itself is in rough shape. The balcony door was all rusted out. My fist day I was locked out on the balcony because the door could not be opened from the outside. The bathroom sink clogged up the last night i stayed there. The […] toilet needed a new float valve. the first room smell a cigarre and the fron desk is no friendly person i have hard time for give another room but the pool is very clean and the area in the pool is nice but for the price is very good

I have stayed here before. I love the location it is close enough to the pier that you can walk but far enough away that you dont have to deal with overcrowding. The pool was wonderful and the hotel sits right on the beach. Our room was comfortable and had a kitchenette. The bad, not all rooms are non smoking so when you walk down the hall you can […] smell smoke. Our room however was smoke free and by some miracle the outside smells dont come in the room. Bed comfortable, clean towels and sheets, kitchenette, color television and a room facing the ocean. Entire hotel needs remodel, but can't beat it for the price. If you were in India you would think you were in a 4 star hotel.

Your first impression will have to do with the mildew odor of the facility. Second will be the complete nonchalance of the staff. They do not know or care how many are in your party, so they'll furnish the room with two in mind (two of our nights) or only one in mind (one of the nights). But you can always do your own furnishing and cleaning up---just […] grab some towels off the cart, or go ask at the desk. If anyone is at the desk, they'll be happy to explain why there are so many rooms with loud music, and so many kids running up and down the halls. Oh, and be sure to wash the dishes: there's a twenty-five dollar charge if you don't. That's right, the four chipped plates, the two tumblers, and the handful of utinsils were left spotless when we checked out, which was a far cry from their condition when we checked in. great low-budget R&R on the beach..what in life couldn't need a little improvement..it's all what you make of it

Needs inprovement but still good for the money

Our whole family stayed in this hotel for the week, and we all had minor concerns with our rooms, but the hotel manager was helpful and very nice. Some of the front desk staff and housekeeping staff were not great at times, but overall, not a bad stay for the price paid.

I was really worried when I saw the negative reviews but the pricing and location sold me. I think the rooms are all different so maybe I got lucky because I was really happy with the one I got. It had modern furniture and a newly updated bathroom. The air worked good and the view from the balcony was AMAZING! You get what you pay for. The room wasn't that bad. The toilet was broke told them twice and still never got fixed. Had you rig it to work. I was booked for a full kitchen, but we just had a kitchentte. Had a great view and the pool was great. Would stay again.

We really liked Castaways. The staff was more than helpful. They were very nice and even gave free goodies along with the exchange for the towels. They even made sure I had a room with a large Fridge for my daughters milk. I plan on returning to this hotel again and again. It has a GREAT pool and it is directly on the beach. Out room was at an angle […] to the bech, but we could still see it well. This hotel is on the quieter side of Daytona and I liked that. This is great for family. Sure I could find things to complain about but the room I had was clean, the air worked great, I had a stunning view and I was on the ocean. The price was unbeatable for having a room right on the beach.

We had a nice time. The Room was comfortable. Kitchen convenience was a plus. Good room for the money. Nice Karaoke restaurant in hotel.

I have researched almost every east coast beach and stayed at several but the best deal for my money has been at the castaways. It supprises me that people bash it considering what you pay. No it is not the Radisson but with awesome views, close to all attractions, and only 1 mile from the famous boardwalk it was a wonderful trip.
