but it is close to downtown! For the rate, this place was great! Be ready to pay $15 for overnight parking though. There is no lot and the surrounding neighborhood is sketch. The inside of this place is wild! Very old style (not sure the era) but the rooms are VERY modern (tiny TV's). Huge bathrooms and very comfortable bedding.

My stay at the Hotel was charming. Yes, sound does come through the walls, however, it did not prevent our gang from having a good nights slumber. We walked to all sights in the downtown area comfortably. I would definately stay here again!

The only complaint that we found was that there was no bottled or filtered water found through out the hotel. We couldn't even find a place to get ice. The bellhop was gracious enough to give us a bottle of water. Other than that, it was beautiful, romantic, and in a wonderful location.

We loved the hotel as it was close to the concert hall we were going to. The staff was helpful and the valet parking was great. We also really enjoyed the look and feel of being in such an old and classic hotel.

I have not been in such a wonderful hotel since I left New England. It's nice to see real wood doors and furniture. The 12' ceilings made the rooms seem very large. Truly enjoyed our stay there.

Great stay. The rooms are very unique. It would have been nice to have a refrigerator...but, other than that very comfortable. The bar/restaurant The Catacombs downstairs was very cool. The wood fired oven pizzas were incredible. Next door, Rain had fantastic mojitos! Overall, I highly reccomend this hotel. Great old hotel in town close to great resaraunts and nightlife. we had a great time.

This is a wonderful restored hotel in downtown Spokane within walking distance to all major restaurants and attractions. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are comfortable and charming. This hotel is hard to beat with the prices on hotels.com. The bar behind the hotel can get a little noisy but that is a very minor issue.

As many people have said its a thin wall hotel....other than that its a nice hotel.

The Montvale is a beautiful restored hotel in a convenient location, walking distance to restaurants, shopping and the riverwalk. The rates are very reasonable and the rooms are lovely.

The location is near the river and also in the midst of some old brick style buildings and apts. Great couple of places to have a quick breakfast/lunch within 4 walking blocks. The hotel is very very nice old world with wonderful 1st class restaurant and also a basement style pub with superb ambience...definitely try the "kilt lifter" beer...it will […] prove to be quite tasty and an item for fun conversation at the very least! I usually stay at the red lion at the park. I won't stay in any other hotel when in Spokane from herein. Great staff and a hotel with soul, a rarity these days.

The hotel has history as it was a brothel back in the late 1800s however that history does not make up for the proximity to the train tracks that are running frieght 24/7. In addition the hotel is really is a strange part of town with alleys and homeless problems. The bed was super, too soft, with a divit that I kept rolling into to. The TV was small […] like one you would find on the back of an ariline seat and well the walls were paper thin. Liked the decor and the service was great...nice crew...but otherwise, this is a sleepless hotel. HOWEVER...this hotel would be outstanding for like a group for like a wedding, otherwise, not the first choice. Sorry, wish I could be nicer. Lisez la suite

The minute I walked in the door, I felt very welcomed. The room was very quaint, clean and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. The complimentary continental breakfast was a bonus.

This room was amazing. They did a great job restoring the old building. The only thing is Valet parking was at a cost even though I swear it said included in the hotel.com price. Would definately stay again!

Nice historic hotel, with good service. Unfortunately its located in a rather dated part of down town with a railroad yard right behind the hotel. I would strongly suggest you take ear plugs.

We stayed at the Montvale for two nights and were very happy there. What impressed us the most was the staff. They were so accomidating and went far and above what we had experienced before. The continental breakfast was very nice but the location in the downstairs pub made it even more special - just not your "typical continental breakfast." Another […] plus was that they did not charge for parking - even valet parking. The linens were nice and the bathroom extra nice. Another good feature was that on the upper two floors there was a large sitting area where you could relax and read. This hotel is beautiful and the beds are super comfy. Problem was that the area was pretty low-rent - for example, I was awakened around mid-night by the sound of a drunk crying and vomiting on the street below my 2nd floor window. Also, I was worried about my car's safety from vandalism or theft. The Montvale is a refurbished building dating from the late 1880s with lovely creaky floors in the common area, great light there to read, and a fireplace. The room we had was perfectly acceptable and adequately furnished. The breakfast in their restaurant in the basement was more than adequate, but wear a sweater as it's drafty. The only negative thing […] we can say about the hotel is that on Saturday evening there was a pretty loud party in the common area, i.e. right outside our door, which lasted til 11pm. Further, there is a bar in the building which has music on weekends which reverberates thru the building and makes it difficult to sleep til after 1am. Wish we had been told about the party, at least, so we could have made our own arrangements for the evening. I'd take ear plugs the next time. We enjoyed the staff which was very attentive and helpful. We had thought, until Saturday, that we'd made a teriffic find in this hotel, so if your plans are to stay during the week, you should be fine. If over a weekend, ask if there is an event planned. I have been traveling to Spokane, WA for over 30 years but had never heard of the Montvale. I found it on Hotels.com and what a find it is. This hotel was built in 1899, it has been completely refurbished to its orignal splendor. The original number of rooms was 76 and now there are only 32 so this left the rooms very spacious. I don't want to spoil […] the surprise of when you go up to your room, but believe me it is awesome. Antiques abound, the two restaurants are really great and there is an espresso machine and fresh baked cookies waiting for you in the evening. As neighborhoods go Spokane is not a rough town, this hotel is on the outskirts (2 -3 blocks) of the main downtown area and not really a problem. This is a great find, I will be going back. This hotel is absolutely beautiful. The rooms and the public areas are beautifully decorated with antiques which matche the high ceilings and ammenities of the era the hotel was built. This was my second time staying there and I will definitely be back.

Lovely place. Very 1900's-hip. Nice "downtown" (for Spokane...) location. My room was smallish, but the bathroom was modern and spacious. Had a problem controlling the temperature level at night; when I mentioned it at check-out the next morning the guy at the desk apologized, said they'd been having problems in that part of the hotel, and comped my […] parking. The room is too dark, and the desk too small, for business travelers. But if you want a non-corporate place to crash, I don't believe you could do much better than the Montvale. Lisez la suite

We only stayed one night, but we both will stay there again the next time we are in Spokane. The bed was extremely comfortable and the atmosphere was great. My one complaint involves a sneaky $15 "extra person" fee. It was just two of us staying in a standard room, so I just don't understand that fee. Other than that, everything was great. Built in 1899, this is a wonderful hotel with a mansion-like feeling. The upper floors have a lovely two-story space complete with skylight and full of comfortable furniture and hundreds of books. Very homey and comfortable. My room had generously high ceilings and was very warm and inviting. Larger than normal size bathroom was also appreciated. The […] staff were all very polite and helpful. Room service and the valet were also very punctual. The Catacombs Pub in the basement was a unique dining experience with all of the brick and stone walls and fireplace. Very close to all City amenities and restaurants. I would definitely stay here as opposed to a larger chain on my next trip to Spokane if it were available. Lisez la suite

This hotel was amazing. The atmosphere was perfect, the room charming and the second floor seating area worth just hanging out in. The coffee machine was awesome and convenient and saved me a bunch of money at Starbucks. The surrounding area was a little rowdy at night due to The Knitting Factory, but I will definitely stay here again.

VERY UNIQUE AND OLD WORLD. DECOR IS ABSOLUTELY CHARMING. NICE COFFEE MACHINE, TOO. ONLY DRAWBACKS ARE THE FLASHING NEON SIGN ACROSS THE STREET IN THE FRONT OF THE HOTEL, AND THE NOISE LEVEL. EASY TO CONTROL THE NOISE W/EARPLUGS AND EASY TO ALLEVIATE THE FLASHING LIGHTS W/A LITTLE CREATIVE PILLOW WORK ON THE WINDOWS.

Great location and a beautiful room. The restaurant beats any we've stayed at on our trip. Good shopping availability. Loved it!

The hotels was quaint. The rooms were clean and the beds comfy. The rooms were small but not uncomfortably so. I would recommend asking for a room away from the street and the bar below. Even with the windows closed we could hear partying well into late evening...on a Tuesday.

The Montvale is an excellent hotel with a really cool underground restuarant where they server continental breakfast - I loved the Waffle maker ! The inner lobby of the htel which is available for all guests is simply stunning ! Lovely furniture and very comfortable with a great free coffee machine which grinds and filters in seconds - a real treat. […] The room was perfect size and a great bathroom. My room was at the back of the hotel so unfortunately had a view over the Train line which had freight trains running through all day and well into the night - which was noisy but bearable. The only thing letting this hotel down is that it is Spokane - it was first time here and I felt a bit uncomfortable walking around as it seemed a bit run down. Speaking to people in the local Irish bar by the waterfront, I learned that there are quite a few muggings. But I had no trouble and ate at the Old Spghetti Factory around the corner which was excellent. I would stay in the Montvale again, although I won't be rushing back to Spokane. Apparently they have a sister hotel in Seatlle which is in a much nicer area in Queen Anne district. Lisez la suite

Great little hotel with friendly staff. Would highly recommend and will return again if I am ever in town.

If you love a historic setting with great ammenities, this is the place! Beautiful public areas for just relaxing. Great location for wandering down to the River Park area and the mall. Lots of wonderful historical buildings in the neighborhood. Can't afford the Davenport? This is a good alternative.

The Montvale has been beautifully restored and offers all the amenities. Although our stay was brief, I enjoyed it. The hotel is convenient and there are some things to do within walking distance. Really enjoyed our stay at the Montvale. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Rooms were spacious and breakfast was free, as was the speciality coffee machine. The hotel is an easy walk to Riverfront Park and a shopping mall. Hotel is in the night life district so if you want to party, it's convenient.. The Montvale is beautiful, fully restored, and very clean. Amazing staff: from front desk to cleaning staff, everyone is very polite and professional. The staff at the Montvale were extremely friendly and helpful. The 'living room' on the second floor was charming, and reminded me of a hotel from an old Western movie, very charming. The rooms were spacious and clean. I would definitely stay here again!

I like to stay in older hotels with ambiance. The Montvale has been totally renovated leaving the "bones" exposed for all to enjoy. The second floor gallery with it's overstuffed chairs and reading room atmosphere is out of a dream. The beds and bedding are world class also. The Montvale is a very comfortable hotel. I alway enjoy staying there.

Great place. Cool looking place with great places to eat in building and close by. Downtown Spokane is small so no need to rent a car and location is great. Only problem is trains that run behind the hotel can be loud.

Great restoration work on the hotel and great staff. Booked into a room where there was obviously an uninsulated pipe running directly through the wall that sounded like a coffee maker. The staff knew about it and moved us to a new room. Why not just fix the problem? Still a decent historic hotel. Valet is a must in the the busy downtown area.

Beautiful refurbished Gem of a hotel...I like to be downtown so a car is never needed. There a great places within short walking distances, A great "find".
