Only stayed one night and was very nice experience.
"We hought it would be in the City. It wasn't."
We thought it would be in the city, i.e. in the historic part of town. It isn't. But it was very comfortable, clean and convenient. The hot breakfast was very good. The halls were quiet. We didn't eat at the Bistro, but went to Dickey's BBQ because we like bbq. I would recommend the City Hotel to anyone.

"Smelled!"
The hotel just plain smelled. There was a dysflunctional dehumidifier in the hotel room. The whole place just smelled musty and old. I wish I'd paid a little bit more and stayed at a newer/cleaner hotel.

Large and comfortable rooms. Great morning breakfast. The hallways to the rooms are a little dated and needs updating, which I think they were in the beginning stages of doing.

My son attends school at ECU and when coming to Greenville I will only stay at this hotel. I found the staff friendly, the hotel well maintained and clean as you can ask for at a reasonable rate. I highly recommend The City Hotel & Bistro D Whitaker Hilton Head Island SC

"Quite decent"
I stayed here two nights during a business trip to ECU. Quite close to campus. A lot of chain-type restaurants and stores (e.g., Walmart) closeby, if that's your thing. Breakfast in morning was good, not great; yes more variety than most free breakfasts but quality wasn't exceptional. Nice at front desk. Bed was very comfortable... minimal amenities. We stayed here while visiting our son at ECU and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel. There was an unpleasant smell in the public areas. It was an overwhelming disinfectant smell, but otherwise everything was fine.

"Close to East Carolina University."
Very convenient if you need to attend East Carolina University. Was only there for that reason and did not get to see much of the area. My husband enjoyed the shops at the local Mall and outlets.
This hotel would have been nice to stay at during the 1950s, but not in 2011. The lobby when you first enter has a stale, musty smell. Our room had an odor of carpet freshener,old TV that didnt work well, uncomfortable beds and bathroom with a rocky toilet. You get the picture. I usually stay in big name hotels but they were all booked. I was surpised to find the price so low and the rooms as good as the big named hotels. The breakfast was outstanding and the room was very clean. The hotel was connected to the Hilton by a covered walk. The Hilton is connected to the Convention Center. I will stay here again.

The breakfast buffet was terrific...real breakfast instead of the hotel usual waffle and cereal...when we first got a room the one they directed us to was used (towels on floor, bed on floor) but the problem was quickly fixed. It was dark and smelled stale in the hallway but the room was clean and odorless. Perfect for a little getaway.

I have stayed at this hotel several times and I have always enjoyed my stay. The full breakfast that comes with your room is very good and a nice change from the standard waffles & bagels. The bar/lounge can be a bit loud late at night but they make sure your room is far away from the noise. The only complaint this stay was I could smell either a cleaning […] product or some type of spray which I assume is to cover up the smell probably from the smoking rooms. Hotel and room were fine. However, caters to a noisy, rowdy crowd who go to bar for live music. Party continued on our floor after bar closed. Woke us up. Would recommend Hilton right down the block. Much better choice.
Great value and place to stay. I love the southern hospitality. Staff at the front desk really accomadated my son and his friend, when they realized the TV in the room was not able to hook up their playstation 3 games and watch movies. We were given a complimentary extra room for the boys to play their games and watch dvd movies. My husband and I, didn't […] have to worry about the boys getting bored. "Close to everything"
My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel during the Thanksgiving holiday. The front desk representative was greeting me as soon as I can through the door. She gave great directions on which elevators to use and where I could park, that would be convenient to our room. Since it was Thanksgiving room service did not clean the room but they gave us a courtesy […] call to ask if we needed anything. I was disappointed that they did serve the buffet breakfast because it was Thanksgiving, but I guess everyone needs a break too. The bed was so comfort I didn’t make it the next morning for the buffet either so I can’t tell you if it’s good or not. Sure does look good. This is a pet friendly hotel and when I ask for late checkout they were so graciously extended it without any charge. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Greenville and surrounding areas. My stay here was wonderful. Thank you City Hotel. Lisez la suite

We booked this hotel because it was so close to the Greenville Convention Center that we were attending the Marine Corp Ball at. What a nice suprise! Very reasonably priced! Hotel was very clean and rooms were nice! Breakfast was awesome- not like other hotel chains! I would recomend this hotel if you are in the Greenville area!
"I really enjoyed my stay and it was worth it"
The stay was amazing...I am not a person who complains. We got there early at 1:30pm and check in time was not until 3:30pm, and was able to check in. The only down fall to that was when we got to the room it was not cleaned yet, but the cleaning crew was on floor and in the process. This did not bother me because we just wanted to drop our things off […] and go eat. When we returned to the room it was completed and very satisfying. The breakfast is amazing!!!! Lisez la suite

"Good Value"
We stayed one night while on a college tour. This was a good value and the hotel was decent. They had a full hot breakfast for free.
"For Greenville This Exceeded our Expectations"
Kinda concerned when we first checked in - a Westin, Ritz it is not. But everyone was friendly and efficient, greeted us coming and going. Really nice breakfast buffet - we prefer stronger coffee. Location great. May return again.

The hotel was actually a pleasant surprise. The staff was very friendly and the room was very clean. Ibelieve the room may have been haunted though! The nightstand doors, even though they closed very tightly, kept popping open, even while we were asleep! The dehumidifier was a welcome change. "ECU Parents"
This is your place to stay--far enough from campus, yet close enough to enjoy a nice time with your student. They have been very good to us these past four years!
"Not worth the money"
We arrived after a football game tired ready for bed. The guy at the front desk was to busy talking to a girl working at the bar. The room was a smoking room and it was very dingy smelling.
I enjoyed our stay. I loved the Southern Hospitality feeling of the hotel. Breakfast was awesome. I would stay there again if in the area. My only negative comment is the dehumidifier in the room was really loud. When it was turned off overnight, the room seemed sticky the next morning.

Room was huge and very clean! Very comfortable staying there--location is close to several eateries and major chain stores.
