Everything fine accept no free Wifi. In this day and age that is a small but very annoying shortfall in this hotel.

The hotel staff were very polite and very presentable, in fact they were the only thing of this hotel that I have any positive opinion of. I would have checked out immediately if the hotel had not exercised a no refund policy. Now I know why. At no stage thoughout the entire booking process was I informed that the room was self-catering making for […] a very uncomfortable and unexpeced stay. That point aside the room was very noisey. Situated on the first floor just above the busy main atrium and restaurant, the bedroom window opened out onto this atrium meaning there was very little privacy and even less silence during the evenings. The only other windows - in the living area - opened onto a noisey, and very dirty, backstreet. Given the time of year that it was, this street was very active with drunken passer-bys. Adding to the poor experience of this hotel. Inside the room, the AC in the main living area worked - although very minimally. There was no minibar and no facility for one without paying significantly more. On the first night we arrived the bed sheets were very well presented, however they were dirty underneath and had dried chewing gum. When we asked to have the sheets replaced we were told it was not possible as house-keeping had already left, instead another staff member simply removed the sheets. When they were eventually replaced the following afternoon, they were replaced with more dirty sheets. And only the one sheet was replaced. There was a fault with the room safe whereby it wouldnt open with the code we entered. When we rang reception to have it fixed, they sent house-keeping - who had no idea of the issue. When we called a second time they sent a second member of room service - again, had no idea. Eventually, on the third attempt the room safe was finally repaired. Our room was fantastic. Large 2 bedroom apartment with 2-1/2 baths, living rm, dining, rm, and full kitchen. Everything was new and modern. There was a washer/dryer combo in the room that came in handy. It was nice having such a large space to return to after a day of touring with my wife and 2 adult daughters. Mandela Rhodes is a superb hotel in the center of shopping, and not far from the waterfront. The location is close and walking distance to many attractions such as Long Street, Hop on and off double deck sightseeing bus, across from St. George Cathedral, and shopping on St. George's Mall. The staff was courteous and extremely helpful. They made our stay enjoyable. The service was prompt. The rooms were big and spacious with a sitting area and fully equipped kitchen and washer and dryer. The hotel location is convenient. Will definitely go back there.

I stayed 6 nites in a 2 bedroom platinum suite. It came with a big hall with well equipped kitchenette. There was even a microwave oven, cooker and washer/dryer. We met him several times during our stay n he always had big broad smiles and always engaged us in conversation. Extremely suitable for the svc industry. The reception staff were all very friendly too. In fact all, including porters n security staff. Perhaps the only let down was housekeeping. We ordered a pack of washing powder but it was never delivered. Twice, early in morning, we were disturbed from our slumber. Once, door bell was pressed incessantly and was wrong delivery!!! Later, housekeeper again disturbed us to clean our room tho we didnt have the sign on the door knob. Again next morning, same thing happened again. Seems they just wanna get their jobs done with with scant regards for guests' comfort n privacy! Tho we didnt hang the DND sign, neither did we the 'svc room' sign! Otherwise, generally, was a great experience. I strongly recommend this 2 bedroom suite to family with more than 2 persons. This hotel stay started out on a bad note. We had booked a 2 bedroom superior room but when we got there at midnight, the only thing available to us was a one bedroom apartment. The reception closed at 11 pm, leaving only a security guard to man the front desk and we had to wait till the morning to get the room situation rectified. Once this was done […] however, the hotel facilities were excellent. The rooms were as described in the website. Complete with full kitchen, washer and dryer plus it was in an excellent location. Good location, cafes and markets nearby. Room comfortable and well equiped.

We really enjoyed our stay in a three person suite (These aren't just hotel rooms) at the Mandela Rhodes for 4 nights. Other members of our group booked a studio and a 4 person suite. We found ourselves wondering why it was not a 5 star hotel, the rooms and service were certainly up to standard. We stayed in the winter when prices are lower than in […] the summer but even in the summer the prices provide great value. The staff were very friendly and were able to help with all our questions while we were there. The rooms are spacious and well equipped each with a kitchen with sufficient equipment to cook your own meals, including full size fridge freezer, oven and hob. There is also a washing machine and dryer in each suite/studio which makes it ideal for longer stays. Although the hotel says some rooms only have a washer/dryer this wasn't the case for any of our 3. The pool deck gets the best of the afternoon sun meaning that even in the winter it was warm enough to swim. The hotel is right in the centre of Cape Town 1 block from Green Market square. There are many local shops, cafes and restaurants and although the waterfront is just a short taxi ride away the hotel provides free transport to it at set times. The only slight drawback we had was a 2 metre height limit on the car park. We had roof tents on a 4x4 and so needed to deflate our tyres to get in. I was extremely disappointed - during our stay we had several problems, maintenance not showing up to make necessary repairs. Forced to report the same issue two days later has no result. Room service is pathetic - attempting to order was a nightmare and then to have the meal delivered in a to-go box in a plastic bag was appalling!! This hotel far exceeded my expectations in every way. The apartment was wonderful and all the staff amazing. The buffet breakfast rooftop by the pool was great. This is a fantastic hotel in the centre of the CBD, walking distance from the waterfront and in a trendy cafe environment. The room exceeded my expectations. The staff were friendly, professional and very helpful. Loved the vibe and would highly recommend.

It was more than I expected even though I had read many positive review. We had a wonderful time at this hotel and this City and Country. I travel over 200 nights a year in Marriott, Hyatt, and Hilton properties. This hotel exceeded all of these in hospitality, personal handling of issues, cleanliness etc. The room was very nice. Hotel.com made our trip very enjoyable by helping us with this hotel. I would say one thing, that if you suspect your trip may be cut short, discuss this with Hotel.com as once you are there, changes are not allowed. Great central location. Easy to walk to everything. Great breakfast on beautiful roof. Very friendly staff. Sometimes a little noisy if facing street, but that's life in a big city! :)

Rooms are apartment type with kitchen / sitting room. Located in the heart of city centre so some noise at night but not unbearable. Great location rigt in the city - 15 min walk to Waterfront or shuttle bus available. Well appointed apartments, although ask for the tower as these have balconies. Internet is expensive and slow, but much cheaper just outside the hotel. Overall a great place to stay, would return anytime.

My stay at Mandela Rhodes was a definate blast. i give then 10 out of 10 from arrival to leaving. Definately coming back for more!!!

This hotel has a great location and the apartments are spacious and comfortable with everything you might possibly need, dishwasher too! We were a bit surprised that this fairly new hotel was in asuch a state of disrepair - our room clearly has had water problems which you could see in the paint and water marks on the floor. The breakfast room was very […] dirty with sticky floors, damaged furniture and tiles popping off the walls. The architect got it all right, the builder did not it seems! Loved staying here. Room was huge, had a fully funcitonal kitchen, so I didn't have to go out for all my meals. Walking distance from many of the sites I wanted to see. Great shops and restaurants on first level. Great value for the money, can't recommend enough!

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at Mandela Rhodes. The service was brilliant from the reception staff to bar staff and maintenance dept everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed in a platinum suite which was very spacious for four adults, with large lounge area, well appointed kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and an extra toilet. Not a regular hotel, but upscale apts where some are converted to hotel use. The apt was beautiful and across the street from provincial legislature and 30 yards to a hop on hop off tourbus stop and common gardens. Close to several museums and Long street which is cool. You have a kitchen with dishes that housekeeping washes each day. There's even an all in one washer/dryer in the kitchen, which I availed myself of as things were getting slim. Only thing not perfect was that hot water not as hot or long lasting good as in us. Amazing deal for what hotels.com charges. Didn't bother with their business center, as are abundant internet cafe operations on Long Street--the Cheapest is in basement level of crafts store a block from hotel only 5 Rand per hour(like 80cents US). Hotel facility excellent for us. Loved the idea of Kitchenette with lots of space and all that you need to cook if you want to which was perfect for us. Couple maintinence faults like plugs not working and loose tap but overall exellent spacious rooms and lounge facilities. Excellent breakfast and very helpful staff in restaurant. It was more a banquet […] than breakfast, home cooked pastries and muffins to top it all. One down side was checking in, staff very inefficient and even though they told us the room would be ready in hour we arrived back 2 hours later and still had to sit about for another hour...not impressed. There was a lot of staff standing around not doing a lot and not very helpful in their advice or customer care. Not great eating facilities, lots of independently run facilities to hotel(spa, taxi/tour co, restaurents) and they don't seem to communicate with each other although affiliated..... Lisez la suite

The hotel is...ok! The room was nicely decorated and had everything you could need for a short stay. It would have been nice to see housekeeping staff more often as we were left without toilet paper, clean towels etc... The staff at reception were pleasant but didn't go out of their way. The internet was down for the whole five days we were there […] and the breakfast left much to be desired. But, at the end of the day we went to Cape Town to explore the city and the hotel provided a bed for the night. If you looking for a decent place to crash without the frills, then this place is ok. The rooms are nice and roomy as they are basically apartments. Only real negative were the hard beds which were common at the other hotels we stayed at in South Africa and door slamming (doors are spring loaded so it echoes in the hallways as the doors shut when people leave their rooms). But for the price and location it can't be beat.

Hotel staff were more than keen to help. We arrived at 10 am and within half hour we had our room, even though check in was not till 2 pm. The room we choose was a platinium one which just oozed space, was very modern and clean. A kitchen with all the appliances inc a washing machine( the maid will leave you some washing powder if you need) A dish washer […] although the maid was very good and cleaned up too! We had a side room which overlooked the pool, which was lovely but noisy in the evenings from the offices adjacent. The only real let down as the rooms to the other side have a fantastic view of table mountain , if not in cloud! We had a hire car and was great to have secure parking within the hotel. Saved on the worry of having to have your car looked after by 1 of the locals over night. The hotel has a card system that doesnt allow acess fom the car park or into hotel lifts with out so you can feel quite secure. There a 3 restaurants within the hotel an italian and fish restaurant in the lobby and synergie on the 7 th floor which is only open for breakfast and lunch in the winter time. All food was excellent and so cheap! We did not venture out much after 7ish as the area in the evenings was not the safest although ok during day light hours Lisez la suite
