"Need to take a taxi or have a car, but it is close"
Friendly staff. Pretty grounds . Above ground pool was refreshing on these hot days. Room was clean but small for three of us and the beds werenot great but we were only staying one night.
"Perfect place in magical western Belize"
Had a lovely stay. Bart and his wife couldn't have been more helpful. It's conveniently located on the edge of the excellent town of San Ignacio. Stay in one of the cottages set amidst the beautiful grounds and feel like you are in the middle of the jungle!
"Rooms are not up to date"
The small rooms are far too expensive for what they offer. The walls are very thin and if somebody is walking around on the wooden floor it sounds like they would walk through the room. I changed to a cottage which are quiet but need also an uplift. Otherwise it is a nice Lodge.
"Maya Mountain - fine place to stay"
This was a good base for touring around San Ignacio. Rooms are not fancy but comfortable. Food is pretty good, but a little over-priced.
"Maya Mountain - great facility; but owner's quirky"
The grounds are fantastic - lush, well groomed, with sidewalks to hidden bungalows..Ours was rustic, but clean and kept up. Lots of towels, and even fresh flower petals on them. But the bunks had thin mattresses, and the only 'door' on the bathroom was a curtain (in a bungalow that sleeps 6). Meals were reasonable compared to other resorts (and excellent), […] and San Ignacio is only minutes away. I had read the owner had some quirks, and I'll agree. Someone said he was hard on employees, and I guess it's true because it was the first day for 2 of them (high turnover). He told us dinners were $20US, but when we checked out he wanted $25 for a 'special' one we had. When I arrived I told him I needed a shuttle back to the airport in 3 days. He said he'd have someone check on it for me. The day b4 leaving I'm on my laptop on the veranda for an hour trying to find a shuttle. He comes over and I tell him what I'm doing and he mumbles something about contacting Melody to find me one, and makes the call. I keep at it while he's chatting with my room mates; finally find a well reviewed guy with a good price. I call and book it, and ask the owner if he's heard of him, and he says "yes, he's very good". Well what the heck?? I think he didn't mention him cuz he doesn't get a kickback.. Before we got there my niece (one of the 3 of us) said we might have up to 3 additional guests. He said "no problem, in fact things are slow and I'll have empty bungalows - we can work out a good deal for them". When all 3 showed up, he didn't offer another bungalow, nor even have extra towels brought to ours, but did try to charge them $60 when they were settling their bill for meals. So considering the price, location, and facilities, I'd stay there again; but make darn sure everything was spelled out in advance so there were no surprises. Lisez la suite
"Chasing you for money"
The owner of the hotel will offer you dinner, lunch, breakfast and tours for a lot more money than if you go other places. Always check in the city. The mattress was awful and the AC very noisy. No hot water and a simple think no champu. It was the only place in Belize where the taxes were not included in the price. Last day at this hotel we found a […] very suspicious punches on the car. They were no make for another car. Lisez la suite
"Loved Maya Mountain Lodge"
We loved our experience at Maya Mountain Lodge. The hosts and staff were very gracious and approachable. They provided for all of our needs from breakfast and dinner to recommendations on excursions. While the cost of the excursions was slightly more than what we could have arranged in town, the added convenience (picked up at our complex), expertise […] (tours started early so we beat any other group and essentially had the place to ourselves), and tasty (meals were all provided and we were given a menu to chose from). The best reason for arranging our tour with Maya Mountain, however, was the guides they provided - absolutely top notch. They made the trips fun and safe. We toured the ATM cave system - lots of swimming and climbing - and Tikal in Guatemala. The food served at Maya Mountain was superb. It was also convenient while although we had a rental car, it was much more relaxing to eat at our resort . Lisez la suite
