"Just great !"
Tres beau Riad.

"Never been so glad to leave"
We had high expectations in the light of commentary on the web. We were greeted by a sexist taxi driver who dimmed those expectations in the time it took to drive from the airport. We hated Marrakech which did not help but the whole Riad experience was claustrophobic rather than romantic. Our room was shabby. The bedroom temperature was managed by an […] air conditioning system that was too noisy to allow sleep. Turned off the room was rapidly freezing. The Riad's restaurant came with great write-ups but we found we had no opportunity to select our own food on our first night. Tasting menu or nothing. It was fine but no way did it meet the hype. We ordered al a carte in advance the next evening. The chicken kebab was dry and overcooked. The rest was so unmemorable I can't describe it. We checked out and moved on to somewhere by the coast. Having paid in advance for seven nights we lost out substantially but would have been driven nuts if we'd stayed. Lisez la suiteAvis véridique Expedia
Réponse de la part de Le Riad Monceau Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. Sorry you were so disappointed. I must say this is the very first time is... 7 years we get such an awfull review but, as you say, "you hate Marrakech, you hate riads,..." so the first question that comes to mind is : Why did you book for... 7 nights (quite a long stay !) at Riad Monceau which is known - and renowned - to be right in the center of Old Marrakesh, just off the Jemaa El Fna (that you hate too) ? There are so many ways to get full information about hotels and their locations that it seems very hard nowadays to book at a place that is just opposite what you're looking for. Just check out customers reviews on Expedia and there you are : everything is crystal clear about what can be expected from a hotel, whatever its style. Once again I am really sorry for you - it's always a pity when holidays go wrong - but I am not absolutely sure it's fair to give our hotel such a bad review as long as there was apparently no way we could fulfill your expectations... "Great for early birds..."
Located at the end of a tiny alleyway that you wouldn't normally dream of venturing down the doorway to the Riad awaits. Behind the door is an oasis of calm and tranquility as the noise just vanishes. The suite was wonderful, though things like not quite enough hot water to fill the bath each night was a little disappointing. Staff were very open and […] happy to offer assistance and service, though often when asked for things we were met with blank stares for a few moments as if they were shocked we'd actually taken them up on the offer! This seemed to be a general trend throughout the city, so not just limited to the Riad, it became quite funny after a while... The downside to staying here was being woken each morning by the Pre dawn call to prayer, during the day you tend not to notice it, but between 5-6 am for up to 20 mins a time isn't a good way to start the day, unless your a devout Muslim. The upside is that your less than a 2 minute walk from the Jemaa El-Fnaa which is what most of us visit Marrakech to see. Well worth a visit if you can handle the early morning call. Réponse de la part de Le Riad Monceau Dear Guest, Thank you very much for your kind comment. I just would like to add, as a useful information for other travellers, that Morocco is a muslim country (yes !) and it's good to know that, whatever the place you'll be staying at, there's a very good chance you'll be close to a mosquee... It's true that hearing the Muezzin call to the pray early morning can be a little disturbing but... : it's also part of the charm that makes Marrakesh so special, so romantic and so exotic !. :) Thank you for choosing Riad Monceau. "A beautiful oasis"
Le Riad Monceau was a lovely experience! We stayed in three different hotels in Marrakech during our recent trip to Morocco, and this was my favorite in terms of price/value especially (loved La Maison Arabe as well but more pricey). The location is superb --- right off a great little shopping street (not as crazy as the main souk) and just steps from […] the square. Heading down a small little alley to the main door we were unsure what to expect, but the door opened into a luxurious and comfortable oasis! And delightfully quiet and serene, a much needed respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Service overall was good --- we had left our outlet adapter at another hotel and they went out and bought one for us! It was a bit difficult to find folks at times, however, whether at the bar or for breakfast, where one morning there was nobody to be found until 45 mins after breakfast was supposed to start. But at least the food and the coffee was worth the wait. We very much enjoyed the terraces and little sitting nooks, and of course the main courtyard surrounding the pool. And whether you stay there or not, do not miss the restaurant --- absolutely fantastic. Our last meal in Morocco after 2 weeks and one of our best. Not a big deal, but a note if you stay there --- we had the 'Sultan' Room on the first floor and it was a bit noisy --- next to the kitchen and could also hear folks sitting right outside our room for breakfast. Highly recommend this gem! Lisez la suiteAvis véridique Expedia

"Perfect for a romantic getaway"
This gem is located in the middle of the Medina, two steps away from Marrakech's main square. I must say that when we arrived we were a little scared, after all, the region is very poor. But after arriving in the hotel and getting to know the city, we were sure there isn't any other hotel and Marrakech we would trade ours for. It is absolutely charming […] and gorgeous! Rooms are huge, food is great (make sure you book you 3h Moroccan Cuisine class) and staff are as friendly as can be! A little insiders tip: if you are looking for a tourist guide during your stay there, make sure the hotel calls "Abdul". Great location and hotel staff were very attentive. Our only critiscism was the lack of hot water. Our room only had a large bath but there was never enough hot water to fill it. "Great hotel. Really close to the main square."
We stayed at Riad Monceau for two nights. Unfortunately, since our room had been reserved previously, we had to swap rooms the second night. Nevertheless, both rooms were very nice (I liked the first one, "Marjan", better) with a huge tile tub (each room seemed to have its own water heater and you can take only one bath at a time). Both rooms had AC. This […] is a really nice boutique hotel located 60 seconds away from the main square. You cannot drive to the front gate as the passage is very narrow. Don't freak out while walking to it. There are stores on both sides and might not be the typical western environment you are used to. Make sure you have change for the porter that will help you with your bags. Even if you can carry your own, you still need a porter to help you locate the hotel. Breakfast is simple but very delicious. You have to order dinner beforehand (around midday) as everything is cooked in-house. The ambiance is very pleasant and the dinning area is set around the pool. I was a bit reluctant to book with a 9-year old child, but I am very glad I did. There were other families around. The architecture is typically Moroccan. Beautiful. There is a large rooftop sitting area where you can hang and relax. On our last day there, I participated in a cooking class. It lasted two hours, and you can eat your own dish afterwards. The chef was really friendly and the whole experience was great. Lisez la suiteAvis véridique Expedia

The Riad is only about 100m from the Jemaa el Fna, so it is perfectly situated for sight-seeing around the central part of the medina. It is reached down a very narrow and unlikely looking alleyway. It is a little oasis hidden away amongst the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the restaurant was a very high standard. Just a couple of minutes from the main square in Marrakech old town, this wonderful riad is tucked away down a most unlikely alleyway. We were met with mint tea and home-made pastries, there was water and fresh fruit in […] our room, and the room itself was very clean and tastefully decorated, albeit not overly large. The first evening we ate out in the main square, but on eating in the hotel's dining room for lunch on the second day, we ate nowhere else for the rest of our three day stay. "Adventurous romantic couples come here. Leave kids"
Pool is smaller than you think. It is in the dining area where people eat but is certainly available all day for use. Water was clean and clear. Open air design, outdoor seating for meals. No AC in hallways, common areas or dining area, but the AC in the room WORKS perfectly, despite the often 105 degree setting. Beautiful 3d floor lounge area is very […] enticing, but courtyard design of hotel makes breezes rare and therefore the intense heat of summer which persists as late as 1030pm renders these areas almost useless. A pity, since the lounges are beautiful. Staff was courteous and helpful, and not intrusive. They speak limited English, but enough to get by. It definitely would be helpful to know at least a little French, but not necessary to interact with the staff. Other guests were couples, mostly older. Familes with children would be much happier elsewhere. Couples looking for a romantic escape will be very happy. The location is perfect, as it is just steps from the square, where you can haggle like a local and get a true local flavor that cannot be had by staying at a big resort such as the Four Seasons. I felt more like I was at a private apartment in Marrakech than a hotel. If that sounds good to to you then stay here. If you want a generic resort in the tropics go elsewhere. As I said, the courtyard design precludes breezes and it feels a little stuffy. A few ceiling fans would make a HUGE difference for not too money in the common areas. Lovely place to stay in great location near the centre of the old town. Staff were very friendly and helpful (we booked an early morning balloon trip and were given breakfast at 05.30 before being escorted to our taxi - we only asked for coffee and orange juice!). We asked for a taxi to meet us at the airport - this was a worthwhile expense because […] the taxi took us as close to the riad as possible and someone then came to walk us through the (initially) confusing alleys to the riad itself. We booked a 'tasting menu' meal one evening, and this was superb and we would recommend this to everyone. You can also select an a la carte meal but you need to choose in advance so that there is time for the preparation and cooking - our meal course was cooking in the oven for six hours and was the most tender and taste beef you can imagine! As with many riads there is a plunge pool in the central courtyard, and an attractively planted terrace on the roof - a lovely place to relax. We really enjoyed The Riad Monceau! "Gorgeous lover's bower with fantastic location"
Surely one of the most peaceful and beautiful places we've ever been, which is incredible in the midst of such a bustling city and less than a 2 minute walk from the amazing Djemaa El fna square, very heart of Old Marrakech. This hotel is probably the closest to the square which is a HUGE bonus. Once inside the Riad, it really is like another - elegant […] and peaceful - world. It is clear the French owner is passionate about her place and the attention to detail is outstanding. Riad Monceau has been rewarded by the publishing of a beautiful book about Marrakech and, well, it definitely deserves it ! The whole place is so beautiful and we got the friendliest welcome. If you appreciate the standardization of impersonal chain hotels this is probably not for you. On the other hand if you enjoy bespoke luxury with a host that knows what guests want, then don’t look any further and book right now to avoid disappointment. Tip : Do not leave without giving a try to the fantastic on site restaurant. We loved every minute of the dinner we had there. "Riad Monceau - Marrakech"
Small, friendly riad designed in typical and trendy morrocan style. The bedroom was roomy, with safe, fridge, fresh fruit and water with a deep bath and seperate loo. The restaurant was good but slightly limited in that it was a fixed menu every night, unless you ordered a la carte with 24hours notice. The continental breakfast was also limited to yogurt, […] croissant and bread roll every morning. The service however was faultless, the receptionist gave good recommendations for dinner. The riad is ideally located just off the main square in the medina down a small alley way. Please note: get the riad to arrange transfer to and from airport for 150 dirhams. The walk through the medina, especially at night is quite daunting, be accompanied by a man! You dont really need more than a weekend in Marrakech as there is not a ton to do. The souks are good but there are not any other real places of interest. ( unless you go in summer and just want to sunbathe) I recommend: visit the Mamounia hotel and the palais Jin mahal for dinner. "Five Fun Days at a Genuinely Good Riad"
Le Riad Monceau is situated about a hundred yards from the main square Djemaa El Fna, in the very centre of so much of what makes Marrakech distinctive. It is in the heart of the Medina (old walled city) and the main attractions are walkable, albeit that Marrakech isn't big on signage. Centred around a courtyard pool, as all riads the premises has […] the good bits facing inwards. The decor is classical, with the restaurant area around the pool. Plenty of comfortable seating, and a roof level area with a few sun beds, sheltered settees and chairs and tables. This was a real treat - after trekking through the souks for a goodly morning, a few hours comfortable R&R certainly helped recovery for the evening out. The restaurant in the riad itself is genuinely excellent, distinctively Morrocan and very much a high quality dining experience. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Morrocan wines - quite drinkable and well priced for restaurant provision. I went through various tagines, salads and soups during our stay, and I can say they were universally excellent. The staff are genuinely helpful, always keen to please. I did use the hammam for a massage (quite fun), and got the riad to book me a guide for my first day in the Souks. This was valuable, and I recommend it. It got me situated for the rest of the stay. I also ate at places around the square. Decent food, in general, and cheap. Marrakech is what it is; Le Riad Monceau is as good as it gets. Lisez la suiteAvis véridique Expedia

A very nice central located riad with a lovely and helpful staff and a high class kitchen. The room was beautiful. We didn't miss anything!Avis véridique Hotels.com
"AMAZING PLACE"
We looked at lots of Riad's online before chosing this one. We were on a 5 day break - we were very very happy with our choice! The Riad really is just like it looks on the web! - the staff are absolutely great, the location is amazing, just off the main square and the Riad is just wonderful - very chilled, very chic and well it's just great! It is […] also very very near to everything! - we did the cooking class which was really good fun - we bought lots of great things in the markets, watched the snakes, monkeys and stroy tellers in the square (100m from the Riad!) - we eat at the Riad (great!) , at a restaurant called Al Fassia, also great and from one of the stalls in the square which bbq food each evening - that was was superb (and very cheap!) - stay in this Riad as its great and very well located and the staff can't helpenough - we took he horse and carriage from the airport which was just wonderful! This Riad is so much better than a top class hotel! Thanks Le Riad Monceau - we will be back - another world just hours away! (oh and it was 27 degrees in November!) "Incredible experience"
From our arrival we were pleased. This hotel surpassed our expectations, the design, the staff, the food and especially the location. Very close to the craziness, but a world away . Peaceful and calm. The staff at the hotel was especially helpful in arranging day trips to the mountains and the ocean. Would definitely recommend this as a must for a trip […] to Marrakech ! "lovely riad, excellent staff but just too hot!"
Beautiful hotel and lovely staff, but I wouldn't stay again- the area is not the best, I didn't want to eat anywhere in the medina, I know it's authentic but I didn't want to risk food poisoning.. our room was very small and the bathroom was small and antiquated, again all very authentic but not quite what I was expecting of a five star establishment...the […] pool was not big enough to swim in... the air con was very inadequate in the room and wasn't on in the dining room, breakfast was minimal and it was so very hot... we stayed just the one night and then moved to the Sofitel which was proper five star and a real oasis. "Le Riad Monceau - wonderful intro to Morocco"
My girlfriend and I stayed at Le Raid Monceau during our first trip to Morocco. The location is great, 60 meters from the main square but isolated and quiet at the same time. The server was fantastic, all the employees were amazingly friendly and helpful. They helped us organize taxis and also a day-trip to the Atlas Mountains (also highly recommended). We […] had an issue with the air conditioning in our room not working the first night and they upgraded our room for us without issue. Beautiful riad, great people, highly recommended! "Le Riad Monceau Marrakech - really 5(!) stars?"
Our main feelings after stay in Riad Monceau? 1) access to the hotel is terrible (as to all other riads in Marrakech, I think), but the location is wonderful - closed to the main square, very quit. Location is the main goal of this Riad. 2) the room (Visir, 1st floor) was very small and dark, with only very basic equipment. For two-three nights it is […] OK, but more than a week there - it was too much. 3) pool is much smaller than seems on the pictures, but water inside the riad is pleasant. 4) Breakfasts are OK, but very very same after few days. The same or bigger problem you will have with dinners - the menu is tasty and well served, but as it seems they alternate two menues only, one each in odd/even days. 5) In 5 stars hotel you don´t expect mildew in the bathroom or only one the same spoon for your yogurt, jam and coffee during the breakfast, but 5 stars in Morocco is maybe less than 3 stars in Europe (not in price!!), so don´t worry about it. Overall: people in the hotel are helpful and few days there is a nice experience. Don´t stay too long... Lisez la suiteAvis véridique Hotels.com
"Americans In Morocco!"
With trepidation we arrived in Marrakech to a world we have never seen! First things first: the Medina is controlled chaos! This guest house is a total oasis in the chaos. It is just off the central square. the first time you will never find it. just pay someone $5.00 to guide you there. once inside you feel like you have always lived there. it is tranquil […] and comfortable. you can eat or relax at the hammam. when you are ready to venture into the medina, it is better to take a tour. if you go on your own take baby steps or leave bread crumbs, but quickly u will learn your way. remember three things: Have lots of coins for tips, english is the third language here and you are not in Kansas so learn someone else's culture. Bargain for everything and settle at half price except for this guest house! Lisez la suiteAvis véridique Expedia
"Fabulous Marrakesh Riad"
A wonderful traditional Riad, just seconds away from the hectic main square of Djemaa el Fna. When you enter the door of the Riad, it is so peaceful that you cannot believe it is so busy outside. The service and food was brilliant, would recommend to anyone and will not hesitate to return, at the first opportunity.Avis véridique Expedia
"20/20 for this beautiful boutique with such a genuine homelike feel"
Situated in the very heart of Marrakech’s historical centre this lovely little boutique hotel has the best location you can hope for and offers the warmest welcome. Gorgeous settings, great rooms + nice extras like the small pool laying in the Andalusian patio (open-air interior courtyard), the rooftop terraces / hammam-spa / sundeck and the excellent […] on-site Moroccan restaurant. The hotel can arrange airport transfers as well as day trips to the nearby mountains. All highly recommended. Felt really safe and pampered. Loved our stay. Lisez la suiteAvis véridique Expedia
