What a lovely surprise this hotel was for us. The decor is fascinating and the rooms are beautiful. And a heated floor in the bathroom, what a nice touch. Wonderful breakfast in a lovely breakfast area. The staff are so helpful and attentive. Wi-fi is free. It is well situated for the Museum area and access to the Ring and the historic area. Finding staff who are always cheerful and willing to go the extra mile is always difficult . The hotel Altstadt has achieved this goal admirably. We never thought we would be able to find such a large and well appointed room in a hotel room in Europe.

Exceptional staff and many personal touches. Very different to a typical large chain. Rooms large and beds superb. area very quiet with lots of bars / restaurants.

This hotel is a very old building (circa 1901) that has been substantially remodelled. Our bedroom and ensuite were very modern and we had a spacious suite which was comfortable but not luxurious. Some areas of the building had been deliberately left in character with its former use (warehouse / showrooms). The entrance door, entrance hall and main […] corridors all retained an "industrial" look. This look had been offset to some degree by the placement of many examples of original modern art. In spite of this we found these areas to be unattractive and not at all welcoming. In fact when we first entered the front door we got quite a shock and wondered what we had got ourselves into. The dining / salon areas were pleasant and comfortably furnished. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated in a quiet back street and is about 15 minutes walk to the "Museum Quarter". The adjoining streets are somewhat run-down and there is a lot of graffiti that spoil some fine old buildings and the experience of walking to the main sights. In summary the Alstadt is a somewhat quirky building that may appeal to "arty" types but if you are looking for a conventional luxury hotel it's better you choose one of the well known brands. Betjeningen var veldig serviceinnstilte og vennlige. Hotellet ligger 15-20 minutter å gå fra Stefansdomen, men samtidig sentralt i forhold til Museums Quartier og andre severdigheter. I nærområdet er det flere små, hyggelige kafeer / restauranter - noe a la Grunerløkka i Oslo. Hyggelig.
