"The Jane - Something Special for Budget Travelers"
The Pod Hotel used to be my go-to hotel for short trips to NYC; however, it has gotten very popular with youths (read: noisy), and pricey per sq ft. For others who have found this to be true, The Jane Hotel might be a good alternative, if you're willing to sacrifice the in-suite sink and still a few more sq ft. A bit more out-of-the-way, in the West […] Village, The Jane Hotel offers a touch of style and friendly service with a bit more peace and quiet. As others have mentioned, it's a location with a history, and the management has preserved some heart-warming nostalgic touches: the staff is immaculately dressed in "hospitality formal" (the doorman provided a grand welcome); the room keys are magnetized, while resembling old keys; robes and disposable slippers are provided. Water and toiletries are also provided. What they seem to understand is that a little touch here and there goes a long way. Supporting The Jane Hotel in a comfortable stay is the adjacent restaurant, Cafe Gitane; the hotel's close proximity to the High Line (a stroll through this new park is highly recommended); some rooms' gorgeous view of the Hudson; and of course, the West Village's boutiques and quality eateries. Of course, some aspects left much to be desired: If you're traveling by MTA and carrying heavy luggage, it is a bit of a hike from the nearest subway station; my quilted coverlet had a large discoloration (oil stain?) about half the size of my palm; my room was close enough to the bathroom that I could hear the loud Xlerator hand dryers (as loud as a vacuum cleaner); the television was loud, and watching it made me nervous of the noise I was causing (adjusting from volume level 1 to 2 = silent to louder than normal conversation); and the sink counters and floors were uncomfortably wet in the morning. A note to all the ladies: the co-ed bathrooms at the end of the hall provide complete privacy in the individual shower and toilet chambers, but you're still sharing a general sink area w Lisez la suite
"Claustrophobic and uncomfortable"
I'm a former NYC native and Village resident. I've been staying in other hotels in the same price range for some time when I visit or work in the city, and although I don't expect luxury I do expect a comfortable bed and enough room to put a small suitcase. The room is like a closet and was very uncomfortable. I love the West Village location but could […] not stay in a room like that again. Lisez la suite
"bye bye Jane!!"
The hall had the most disgusting & weird smell that I cannot even describe. Shared bathroom MIGHT have been ok, if it was not coed!! Just strange to be brushing teeth and look up and a dude in his underwear is standing there!! My room was a stuffy sauna!! Very loud doors slamming at all hours. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for: no washcloth, […] tissues......won't be going back : ( Lisez la suite
"Must Stay!"
Awesome all around! Not your average hotel room - Compact - Clean - Charming and sweet! Right on the river. Great, quiet residential neighborhood with great shops and restaurtants an easy walk away.
"JANE HOTEL"
I had a bad experience at the Jane. I stayed in the single cabin with shared bathroom. I was on the 5th floor and heard the music pumping from the club all night. I could not sleep at all. I called for ear plugs, they had none. I turned on the AC to combat the noise and frooze. The blankets are paper thin. I slept in my ski jacket. The next morning, […] functioning on NO sleep whatsoever and needing to go to meetings was miserable. I went to speak to the manager 3 times and he was in the next room "on the phone" and not available. The room was 50 sq ft, the itsy bitsy bed was as hard as nails & there was a shared bathroom. For about 75 more I could have stayed in a real hotel room. They advertise this as "trendy" since sailors used to stay there but I am not a sailor. Would not stay there again, sorry. Lisez la suite
"Jane Hotel Meets and Exceeds Expectations"
The Jane Hotel is absolutely fabulous, from its charming decor to its friendly staff, this hotel is a unique experience in a unique city. From backpackers to lipstick-and-curling-iron travellers like myself, anyone would feel comfortable and welcome at the Jane....
"The Jane Hotel - Compact Quality"
The Jane Hotel was everything I wanted from a New York City hotel. The location was perfect, two blocks away from the fantastic highline park and a short walk to Chelsea Market. Subway stations are only a few blocks away, but there is plenty to see within walking distance anyway. The hotel itself is on a quiet street away from passing traffic so there […] was no issue with noise. The room is small, yet so well designed you will hardly notice. Despite its size it was very comfortable, the limited space is used with great efficiency. The overall design looks like it jumped straight out of a Wes Anderson film. The shared bathrooms were vey clean and plenty. Never had to queue once to use them. I originally planned to stay two nights but ended up extending my say to four nights. The hotel staff are very friendly and professional, they have good knowledge of the city and will happily share it with you. I will recommend this hotel to anyone who asks. The Jane Hotel is testament to the fact that affordability doesn't have to mean compromising on quality. Lisez la suite
"The Jane NYC"
Cutest hotel I've ever stated in in NYC and my room was so cosy and clean. I will stay there the next time u visit as I was so happy with the hotel and service. Fab!
"Jane Hotel - Not Bad, Not Great"
I actually enjoyed the Jane. For the price you get a reasonable location in the West Village, and a rather unique atmosphere. The rooms are really, really, small. Did I mention the rooms are small? Any way, the only issue I had was that the mattress was pretty much non-existent. It felt more like linen covering plywood, but at the price and location, […] I really can't complain. The staff were nice, the facilities were very clean, and catching a taxi was hassle free. Lisez la suite

"The Jane Hotel in New York"
Finally, an inexpensive NY hotel. Sure, you have to walk down the hall to the bathroom, and the rooms are the size of a small closet...but its affordable. Its near Greenwich Village, which is a bit of a walk from the theater district, but its my understanding that their are a couple of taxi's in NY. Its clean, and the staff is helpful. Can't beat it, […] just don't expect to be able to actually turn around in your room. Lisez la suite
"Fun spot, concept, and location"
This is a place that you have to be sure is you. The super small cabin rooms and shared bath is not for everyone. But if you like the concept, it is a great location, good price, and fun spot for a recreational visit to Manhattan. Definitely not for business travel (although the free wi-fi worked well). Can be a bit noisy--but really a minor quibble. […] Great staff. Lisez la suite
"Great staff,excellent location,affordable"
The Jane Hotel is a very affordable option to try if you want to stay somewhere in the West Village for a lower price with wonderful hospitality from everyone on staff, with a great location very close to the 14th st/8 ave ACE subway line, very safe and quiet neighborhood that offers great food choices with many delis, diners and restaurants. I loved […] that there were so many food options within the very close vicinity. This hotel also offers comfortable rooms, yes the rooms are that small but it makes you feel as if you are bunking on a ship. The beds are comfortable, the pillows are amazingly soft and the flat screen t.v. with dvd player plus the alarm clock with the ipod dock is a wonderful touch for this hotel. The shared bathroom thing is not for everybody and sometimes it can get rather hairy and can make you very impatient but i never had a problem grabbing a shower, and the shower shoes and bathrobe were a splendid added touch to this hotel. The showers were clean, the toilets were clean and I was in the bathroom while the housekeeper was cleaning the toilets and from what I saw, there is a very high standard of cleanliness from the staff at the Jane. Free bottled water in each room is another bonus. The bedbug thing concerned me as its NYC and I have heard that the Jane has had issues with this in the past, but as far as room 524 goes, not a single bug. Everything in the room was clean. I loved the fact that they had plenty of storage space with the drawers and hooks on the wall. I only stayed for one night though so I had hardly any luggage. If you stay longer, you may find the lack of hangers or closet space disappointing. The one and only complaint, and its a very minor one, is that the elevator isn't very fast. It's way faster to take the stairs if you are without a lot of luggage, and again, if you have more than I did, you may find that rather inconvenient. But overall, for the price, the Jane is a fabulously run hotel with a friendly, hospitable, carin Lisez la suite

"Jane Hotel - Great Value for NYC"
We had a wonderful stay and the hotel was close to subway, great restaurants, High Line Park. Neighborhood was very safe. Hotel was clean and comfortable... not a bed bug in sight on the 2nd floor. Note, there is a club/bar on the first floor and our room was directly over the bar... a bit noisy until 3 a.m., but after we told the front desk, they were […] able to get the music lowered. Would definitely stay there again!! Lisez la suite
"The Jane - FULL OF BED BUGS, NO JOKE"
AVOID AVOID AVOID, cheap price not worth the hassle of bed bugs!!!!
"Great location"
The Jane has the advantage of a great location in a beautiful neighborhood in the West village that is quiet and safe. Next to Hudson St Greenwich St and West 4th st that are abundant with great little restaurants, cafes, and stores. Also just a few blocks away from the 8th ave/14th st ACE stop. The service was great, all the employees were polite and […] respectful with a smile on their face at all times. The room was much smaller than expected, even after I went through all the available pics online. My only recommendation is the addition of some hangers - bring your own! Also, a room sink and some tissues would be awesome as the bathrooms use air dryers. Nevertheless, the room was clean, comfortable under the circumstances and provided a bottle of water every day. The bathrooms were reasonably clean and I pretty much never had a problem using the bathroom/shower throughout my stay. Lisez la suite
"Awesome!"
Great Hotel. Amazing Location. Only issue would be that the beds are somewhat uncomfortable. Other than that, i'd happily stay there again.
"Bed Bugs / Smokers / Co-Ed Washrooms"
This hotel has a great look and feel as you enter the lobby. Think Paris in the 20s. Great place to tour and marvel at the decor. Not a great place to stay. The rooms are extremely small and nowhere to put a suitcase. Very claustrophobic. Hallways are narrow and windy and hard to navigate to find the Co-Ed Washroom at the end of the hall. On the way […] down the hall, an older shirtless man spilled out of his room smoking We went down to the lobby and heard a man complaining about bed bugs. That was it! We checked out. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Location great. Not the place for comfort. Lisez la suite
"I'll never stay anywhere else."
This is the third hotel I've stayed at in NYC this year, but now I can stop searching, because The Jane is perfect. I'll never stay anywhere else. The place is full of character thanks to its authentic history and its artsy renovation. The cabins are small but very well appointed, I found it cozy and comfortable. My room and the shared bathroom were […] spotlessly clean. The staff is professional and helpful. Free bike rental is an amazing perk. And the neighborhood is beautiful. I can't wait to come back! "Funky Steampunk Hotel"
The Jane Hotel was better than some reviews made it out to be, but right on about others. I arrived late (midnight) and was pleasantly surprised that the place was hopping (turned out to be a photo shoot in the lobby!), the lovely French restaurant in the lobby was still open and serving good food (even if the tables were grossly sticky), and the service […] at the hotel was super-friendly, with all the bellhops and check-in crew wearing 1920s bellhop outfits. Fun and friendly. The shared bathrooms were surprisingly clean (most of the time) and at the center of each floor. The rooms were behind a set of doors so that the bathroom noise didn't interfere. (I was the first room in and, with the AC or in-room fan running, I couldn't hear much of anything.) The rooms were tiny -- which was pretty clear from the hotel's website -- so I wasn't surprised. I was surprised that they were actually kinda cute and well apportioned given the size. Plus, the room had a fan (! -- I love to block the noise with fans), free bottled water, and a robe and slippers. And a large flat-screen TV and radio/clock with iPod dock. Nice, unexpected touches for an inexpensive NYC hotel! The bed was OK, a little uncomfy but I am very particular about beds. The pillows were nice and fluffy. One wall of the room was full of mirrors, which made the room seem bigger, which was nice. There was also a window, which in my room happened to have a perfect view out to the Hudson and the West Side Highway. It was quite lovely, except for the pigeon who kept roost on the ledge most of the night. I turned the fan on loud so I couldn't hear him cooing. lol. That also drowned out any noise (minimal at best, anyways) of the highway. Still, I bet I had one of the best single cabins in the house, thanks to that view. Overall, I felt the place had this great steampunk aesthetic, and the showers were nice and strong and hot, and the toilets were full, private stalls -- appropriate for the co-ed bath situation. "The Jane Hotel: small but all you really need"
I must have had the smallest room in the Jane; the rooms are called 'cabins' and my room had a cut-off corner which made the bed short on one side. I didn't quite fit, but since I'm a side-sleeper, it worked. I wouldn't recommend anything but the Captain's Quarters if you are over 6 feet tall, but the room was immaculate, well designed (everyone I sent […] a picture to said it looked like a cabin on a boat). There was no private bath, but the shared baths were clean, and had mulitple toilet and shower stalls. The Jane provides slippers and a robe for your convenience. Although few days were warm enough to warrant air conditioning (the room also had a fan), it took only a few minutes to cool down the room on the days I wanted it. the room also had a flat-screen TV, free wi-fi, and free bottles of water are provided. The Jane has both a bar and a restaurant. I didn't visit the bar, which seems to be quite popular with the 20-something crowd in NYC. The restaurant's food is French-themed, reasonably-priced (for NYC) and room service, unlike most hotels, costs no more than dining in the restaurant. However, my room provided nowhere to eat comfortably The Jane is located right near the river, in the heart of Greenwich Village on a narrow cobblestoned tree-lined street. There is a bike path right along the river, as well as a river front park, and the hotel has bikes available for use. The Village has ample restaurants, stores, nightclubs, markets...all that is New York. The neighborhood is quite upscale and lovely. You are also close to bus routes, the subway, and ample taxis cruise right in front of the hotel (at night dropping off those 20-somethings at the bar). I had a great time at the Jane, and the only thing I would change is to request a rectangular room the next time. Lisez la suite

I really like the hotel is really nice and the restaurant and the bar are amazing!!!!!!
"Great value"
Service, location and price were top notch. Staff as well as the guests were so friendly. Room and shared bathrooms were immaculate.
"Clean and convenient"
Exactly what I expected, based on previous reviews. Lots of character in this building, friendly staff, the shared bathrooms were always clean and a comfortable sleep. The only drawback was the size of the rooms. We booked the room with bunkbeds. We knew what we were getting before going, so it's all good. It was just difficult for 2 grown men to share […] this room as there is literally only room for the bunkbeds and room to walk beside one side of them. Walls at both the head and foot of the beds. That proved very challenging when trying to get ready in the morning. One of us had to leave the room in order for the other to get dressed (unless the other was on the bed - HAHA). Not complaining at all though... the price was right, great location in the west village. Bus Stop cafe for breakfast (corner of Bethune and Hudson) was cheap and delicious. Awesome italian pastry shop on Bleeker (Rocco's). Subway at 8 and 14 just a 10 min walk as well. Would stay here everytime I go to NYC Lisez la suite
"Jane Hotel New York"
For the price, one of the best hotels I've stayed in. The surrounding area is amazing. The hotel itself is beautifully designed.
"The Jane Hotel is great value for money"
Loved my stay here, true the rooms are really tiny, but then again when in NYC you are hardly ever in your room.
"The Jane Hotel--Convenient/Affordable/Historic"
I stayed at the Jane Hotel on a weekened in August 2011. The Hotel was an easy walk from the 14th Street A/C/E subway line, and if you have lots of bags you can easily find a cab to get you there too. Once inside, I thought it was so beautifull the architecture is terrific. The check-in staff and the bellhops were eager to help and they even let me […] get into my room early. I was shocked at just how small the room was, but once I realized Id only be in that room from about 3am to 9am everyday, it suddenly did not matter. I mean, who comes to New York to hang out in a hotel room? Its just for sleeping and storing my stuff. The bathrooms down the hall were great because they had full-size, lockign doors for the toilets and showers...lots of privacy. And seriously, just about every time I went in the bathroom, there was somebody in there cleaning it! The A/C in the room works fine, and there's a TV and mirros and shelving and storage space. The bar downstairs looks like something of an Abercrombie catalog. I will definitely be staying at the Jane again because of its affordability, its proximity to the subway and to downtown nightlife and shopping, and because of the helpful staff. Lisez la suite
"great location, but know that the rooms are small"
The Jane has tons of charm and character and is very clean and well-run. They do state that the solo rooms and beds are small--and they are! If you can get past that, then The Jane is an excellent place. Bring flip-flops, as the washrooms are communal, and avoid the restaurant.
"The Jane in New York - small and comfy"
The hotel is a few blocks down from a subway station, but so long as you have the time and can handle it, it isn't that bad to walk to Times Square and back. The hotel was nice and clean, though I did get lost a little on my way out. The stairs go nowhere and the door to the elevator isn't clearly marked, but other than that, I had a very nice stay. […] One thing that didn't bug me that might bug others is the fact that the rooms are so tiny. I had less room to myself on the ship I had just gotten off of and when they say it's made to seem like a ship, they mean it. Lisez la suite
"Hard to recommend"
For me, I wouldn't stay here again. The rooms and beds are super-shrunk, the only storage is drawers in the lower bunk, which your luggage blocks since there are no closets, the elevator is unbelievably slow, and yes, you do have to share a bathroom (which wouldn't be an issue -- except its a logistical puzzle how you actually can take a shower with […] nowhere to put your clothes and towel that will stay dry - like everything else in this hotel -- the bathroom amenities are small space oriented). We never saw anybody else in the bathroom. The staff was super friendly, and I can see why others who stayed on lower floors had noise issues -- there's a bar downstairs and you do have to walk through a sea of 20 somethings every night no matter how late you come in. That said, it is a cheap place to lay your head at night, and if you can deal with the claustrophobic environment and know what you're getting in to -- then give it a shot. I just know that when I moved to my next hotel I felt like I'd died and gone to heaven just to be able to extend my arms in both directions and not hit a bed or a wall! Lisez la suite
"Great value hotel."
The bunk bed room was tiny but done as well as possible. Who wants to stay in their room in NYC anyway? They'll hold your suitcase at the front desk if it doesn't fit in the room. The shared bathroom was extremely clean and never overly busy. If you have trouble with noisy aircon, you'll have trouble in a lot of NYC hotels. The neighborhood around hotel […] is up and coming hip and trendy, a nice change from the midtown . Great value for your money in an expensive town. Lisez la suite

"Jane hotel"
The rooms are the size of small bathrooms. But the worst is -- no air conditioning. When New York's in the nineties, that's a serious lack, and the fan that blows onto the bed only partially makes up for it.
"Jane Hotel"
Since I was in town for a quick weekend with my daughter and I only reallye needed sleeping quarters this worked out. The lack of air conditioning and a fan was problematic but I adjusted. The shared bath and toilets wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Good way to save some money if you don't plan to spend much time in the room. The room was very very small (50 sf) but as a place to leave bags and sleep only its fine. "Charming tiny room plus bikes!"
I booked a single-occupancy private room with shared bathroom and loved it! Compared to another place I stayed with the same arrangement for 30% less cost, I was happy to pay the extra - completely worth it. Major pluses: + Location - safe, quaint, calm, four blocks or so from ACE/L trains, a couple blocks from the main parts of the West Village, across […] the street from the Hudson River + Style - charming old ship theme, with a lot of wood + Cafe - charming restaurant downstairs + Bicycles - for use for free (pay if you lose/damage) - this was a fantastic way to get around and see the city!! The only minus I can think of is that the room is super tiny - the single-occupancy just had a bed and enough space next to the bed to walk in. But in a way it was cute because it really felt like the old railway sleeper cabins I've seen in Europe. Cozy! Lisez la suite
