"Casa santa Maria Formosa"
Excellente situation.

A few things you should know before booking. 1) if you have a heavy suitcase don't attempt to come here from the boat tax stop - its pretty far and there are lots of stairs/bridges. 2)Don't book the cheap room - its ground floor right next to reception. no privacy, dark and unpleasant. 3)the whole hotel STINKS of some sort of deoderant chemical. I think […] its supposed to counteract the smell of the canal but its really really gross. We did our best to spent the least amount of time at athe hotel as possible. But, its well maintaned. The staff is friendly and its clean. enjoy! Lisez la suite
"Great hotel with a great location"
We loved our stay at Casa Santa Maria Formosa. It was in a convenient location (next to good shopping and not far from St. Mark's Square) and was very clean. I looked up mapquest walking directions to help us find it, and I strongly recommend this for others. If you are coming from the train station then there are lots of twists and turns before you […] arrive at the hotel. When we arrived, the staff was very friendly and helpful. They even upgraded our room! The rooms were very clean and spacious. In addition, the breakfast was what you would expect from a breakfast buffet and we enjoyed sitting with a canal view while we ate. I would recommend this hotel to anybody. Lisez la suite
"Casa Santa Maria Formosa - surly service"
Live and learn. When going to Venice you want to be close to the Vaporetta stops. This place was not - my bad. You also do not want to stay in the Rialto neighborhood unless you like wall to wall tourists and crappy trinkets wherever you look. Again - my bad. However the hotel itself was a cracker box. You could barely turn around in the lobby. You […] had to carry your luggage up three flights of stairs just to get on the first floor. The steps themselves slope 10 degrees. The worse part was the inhospitable service including from the Owner! Soured our visit to Venice unfortunately. Lisez la suite
"Hard to find but worth the effort!"
This hotel was on a smaller canal and was great. The staff was exceptional and did everything to make our stay fantastic. The room was newly remoldeled and was done in tile. The breakfast was good and service was phenomanol. The hotel helped with getting to Murano and giving greay directions for a city that is easy to get lost in. you will not go wrong […] with this hotel. It is truly worth the effort to find. The loaction is literally minutes from the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square. Lisez la suite
"The hotel is over rated"
Not impressed at all. The room is small and stinky. There are lots of bugs in the room with weak air conditioning. Counter staff said it is because we have booked the "economy room"! Fairly challenging to find the place so good thing we stored our luggages at the cruise terminal. Overall not worth the price I paid. Hilton garden inn at Mestro is a more […] convenient and much better choice for the same price. Lisez la suite
"Beautiful hotel only 5 mins away from all of sight"
Hi, my husband and I stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and it was perfect. We booked a standard room but when we arrived we had been given a 'canal view' room which had three large windows overlooking a canal. The view was lovely especially in the morning when provisions were being delivered via gondola. The room itself looked exactly as […] it does on the photographs and had a nice romantic feel to it. The safe was included in the price and there was also a minibar. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, the only downside was that there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room - this would have been nice after a day sightseeing. Breakfast is continental style which we love with freshly baked croissants, bread, cheese, ham, cereals, jams etc on offer. The coffee is delicious. The breakfast area is very intimate but you only eat there so not much of a problem, we ate early every morning and didn't find the size of the room an issue. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful offering directions and suggestions on where to go and what to see. The location is perfect, about 5 -10 mins walk in different directions to the Rialto bridge and San Marco square but far enough out to get away from the crowds. Follow the hotel directions and you should find the hotel without too many problems, just remember that in Venice streets have 90 degree bends and often more than one of them!!! A beautiful hotel that I will definitely recommend to friends and family, we had a lovely stay. Lisez la suite
"Great location, good value, a little "shop worn""
We had a decent sized room with 2 big windows overlooking the canal. Loved it, tho had to shut the windows at night because of "traffic" below! Kinda like your neighbor starting his truck at 6 am to go to work. But the windows were sound proof. The decor was very fancy, swags and all that, but the upholstery worn. We paid 5 euros for 3 days of internet […] that worked pretty well. AC worked great, but only if you were in the room. That was OK since it wasn't too hot. Bathroom very clean, but shower tight for a "large" person. Very comfy beds. Michael at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. He warned us that we may have (big) trouble getting back from Murano because of the vaporetto strike (the factory gives you a free ride to, not from) Another desk clerk did not point out that important fact! Great location. We took a vaporetto from the bus station to the Realto stop and had to lug our bags over just 3 bridges. Not too bad. Free breakfast is in a very tight room (10x10) with only tables for two. You get coffee, tea, tomato juice, yogurt, hot rolls/croissants, jam/Nutella, cold slices of ham & cheese. Packs of cookies are for the taking all day. Steep stairs to the rooms. Would look to see if I could find another hotel at a similar price before I would return, but I definitely would not rule out a return visit. Lisez la suite
"Not quite 4.5 starts"
Nice hotel in a good location (after you find the hotel)! Lovely Venetian decor. Close to water bus, shops, restaurants and tourist spots. Did not like walking up the steep, narrow stairs but apppreciated staff help to carry the baggage upstairs and downstairs. Breakfast menu was not as nice as offering in other hotels, including cheaper ones. Overall, […] a bit too pricey but I understand it is the tourist season. Lisez la suite
"A great place, excellent location"
I'll be brief. The location is superb....with easy access to everywhere. Its close to the Rialto bridge and San Marco Square, so you can take the regular Vaparreto service from the airport or train station with your luggage, if you don't mind carrying them over ~ 2 bridges to get to the hotel. No need for expensive private taxis. The hotel is small, […] cozy, and the staff and owner are quite wonderful. They are accommodating, kind and really want to serve the guests. Rooms are super, clean, well kept, and service is excellent. Breakfast was simple: freshly baked pastries, good coffee, meat, cheese, cereals, yogurt. There were some problems with the internet service for 1.5 days, and we were refunded the very modest charge and given free service after. The hotel suggested and helped arrange transportation, touring and gave great suggestions for things to do. Only a couple of things might cause some guests to call or email in advance. The hotel is not staffed on site at night. Help can be reached by cell phone, and the staff was wonderfully responsive. We didn't need anything, but I saw one of the staff come in at 1 AM to carry a couple's bags up the stairs. Second is that some of the rooms are accessible only by stairs, without a lift. This is not uncommon in Venice. If this is an issue because of age or infirmity, then call in advance to request a more easily accessible room. We loved the hotel, the owner Paolo, and his staff. If the small items above don't bother you, you'll find it an excellent place to stay. Lisez la suite
"Great hidden gem"
Yes, Hidden. But then again, most of the quaint gems are hard to find, but well worth it. The room was perfect, right on a small canal and near everything there is to see in Venice. The staff was very helpful, polite and even more helpful. Make sure you ask for a room on the canal, there may be some noise as the small town wakes up in the morning, but […] we found this charming. The hotel help make our honeymoon the most magical time of our lives. We come from a romantic city, but there is no comparison to Venice. Thank you CSMF Lisez la suite
"Comfortable, friendly and well located"
We spent 3 nights here and we were very comfortable. The location was excellent. An easy walk to all the major attractions of Florence. The room is a throwback to the 70's. Old veneer furniture. Old bedspreads. SMALL bathroom/shower. But clean. The friendliness of the family running the hotel is welcoming. The morning continental breakfasts provide […] more than your standard roll and jam. There were lovely cold cuts of meat and boiled eggs. Coffee was great too. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. Lisez la suite
"Central location and welcoming staff."
Nice little hotel, our room was clean and well appointed. The bathroom looked like it had recently been renovated which was a nice surprise too. The staff were very firndly and helpful. The breakfast consisted of cereals, juice, croissants, yogurts, ham and cheese which was adequate. The breakfast table whichlooks out onto the canal was nice to sit […] at and plan the days activities. The hotel is centrally located and only a quick stroll down to St Marks Square (follow the arrows) and the campo around the Santa Maria Formosa Church was pretty with lots of streets and bridges leading from it. Plenty of photo opportunites! The only downside was that our window did not have a view, it just opened onto a small central area in the building. However we did not mind, we spent our time out and about viewing the city not just looking out a window! Lisez la suite
"Santa Maria Formosa in Venice, a real win!"
We really enjoyed staying at the hotel which was nicer than we'd expected for the cost. Staff were helpful, the rooms were lovely. Our only down-point was that we had to use two separate street entrances for our two rooms (one adult/two kids in each) but this wasn't a big problem and probably wouldn't even affect most travellers. Would definitely recommend […] and stay there again. Lisez la suite
"Casa Santa Maria Formosa in Venice"
This hotel was an excellent choice for a place in the heart of Venice for a reasonable cost. Located just 15 minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge, and overlooking a side canal, it gives a great feel of the city without being in the middle of the noise. The service was friendly, and the continental breakfast was good. The rooms have a more elegant feel […] than one would expect for the price. It was a truly delightful experience, and I'd stay there again. One note: you can easily use the internet for a very reasonable price, but you need to get logon info from the reception, so remember to ask upon checking in. You won't have access when you return to your room after dinner! Lisez la suite
"Casa Santa Maria Formosa - would stay there again"
Great location - 5 min walk to St Mark's square and Rialto. The room was nice and tidy. The bathroom was very clean and quite spacious. We also had a room with a canal view, which was pretty amazing. The breakfast was a bit basic, which is an area for improvement.

"Charmless"
Casa Santa Maria Formosa was the worst hotel we stayed in during a 12 day trip to Rome, Florence, and Venice earlier this month. But it wasn't a bad experience. The entire room space of the hotel has been recently remodeled with items of horrible quality. Everything has a plastic Ikea look and feel, killing any "city charm", although many people used […] to new, cheaper hotels in the US will feel right at home. They shuffled us and several other couples between different rooms every night because there was "maintenance" to be done. But don't worry! They said the new room was an upgrade (which it wasn't). The bed was the least comfortable bed I've slept on in quite a while. I like hard beds in general, but these beds have a very hard outer surface, and then a spring layer beneath poor padding where you can feel the precise pivot points as your body presses down to the next layer. Garbage. And I'm skinny. Also, the breakfast was HORRIBLE. Just terrible, terribly quality. Quite simply the worst breakfast I've had in years. On the other hand, the room was quiet, warm, and there was enough room. So the stay was pleasant enough, but absolutely nothing worth recommending, and some worth avoiding (bed and breakfast). Ugh. People who recommend this place have low expectations, and I'm easy to please. Lisez la suite
"Pretty place"
Nice hotel with attractive rooms - good size bathrooms. There seemed to be four employees - three of which were wonderful, one was a little cranky and he manned the desk most often. Besides him being a little off-putting, this place was a good value - nice canal views.
"Great Value Central Hotel"
Lovely hotel which is very central. Tip: make sure you download the directions to the hotel from the hotel site as venice is a maze of streets and bridges and it would be difficult to find without them. The hotel is split into two and we stayed in the newer part. In this part there are two flights of stairs which you have to carry your bags up so not […] for the unfit or those with really heavy bags like me!! The room was lovely, really well decorated, clean and comfortable. In fact it looked exactly like the photos. The breakfast was nice and the coffee amazing. The hotel is also really close to everywhere you would want to go, so great location. Would stay there again but as venice has so many bridges to climb, next time I'll bring a lighter bag!! "Cozy respite in Venice"
We were very happy with the Casa Santa Maria Formosa, tucked away in a nice, quiet area in Venice while still being close to the major sites. The man who greeted us at the desk was extremely friendly and helpful, and made us feel right at home. His english was perfect. The room itself was nicely appointed with recent updates, although it took three […] flights of stairs to reach it. The stairs were steep and narrow and would prove difficult to anyone with large or heavy luggage. The breakfast was good, with standard continental offerings. Wireless internet was available for 3 Euros per night. Overall, a good value for the money considering the high costs in Venice. Lisez la suite
"Beautiful hotel to explore a beautiful city"
Staying at the Casa Santa Maria Formosa was a lovely experience. After deliberately getting lost from Rialto bridge we wandered around the narrow but vibrant Venetian streets for a while before heading towards the hotel. Literally a few minutes from one of the main shopping streets the hotel is set on the corner of a picturesque square (Campo Santa […] Maria Formosa) and just by the junction of two pretty bridges. Dan was at the desk to greet us and there was a cold bottle of wine and some flowers waiting in the room for my partner's birthday. Over the weekend, Dan's knowledge of the area became apparent when he arranged the most wonderful restaurant (Ristorante Al Giardino), he also knew the history of the local churches and academies and suggested a few lovely locations just off the beaten track. I can't praise the hotel, staff or location enough. When you go to venice, stay here! Magical!
Lage optimal!
"Nice cosy but small hotel, good location"
Location was just great, after finding this very hidden hotel entrance. Hotel is very small, there's no reception personnel after 7pm, so late arrivals need to call a number to get in - the key and directions are left in an envelope on the counter, so it works out just fine. The room was small but cosy, no antiques though... BUT the bathroom left room […] for improvement, and there's the minus point. The shower is extra tiny and tile seams were growing mildew, yack. Some rooms have a view to the canal, other rooms only to inner court, which is not a view at all. Then again, best views are outside... Breakfast was ok, normal continental. It was wonderful to wake up to the scent of fresh croissants! All in all, nice little hotel with good location, but nothing spectacular. There's own imbarcadero on the canal, so can arrange water taxi to/from the airport directly to/from hotel. Saves the trouble of carrying bags up and down the bridge stairs! But water taxis come with a price, so not recommended for the economy budget traveller.

"Kleines Haus in zentraler Lage"
Great location with great restaurants and shops near by. Take water bus no. 2, get off at Rialto and walk about 10 mins. download the instruction from hotel web. Venice people are nice. good hotel service although there is not much choice for breakfast, but this is normal I think.

"Casa Santa Maria Formosa-mitt i stan"
Great location, the room was beautifully decorated, spacy and clean. Brakfast was ok, you could eat as much as you want, but the choice wasn't very wide. When you check in in the evening there will be no one at the reception and you'll be given an access code to the door on the phone.

"Casa Santa Maria Formosa - Venezia"
Enkel, men god frokost. Vennlig betjening. Grei gangavstand til det meste.
