"Ny Renaissance house--the piano room"
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. Overall, the place is satisfactory. We stayed in the Piano Room, located on the second floor, front side of house. The half bath that was supposed to be "ours" was tiny, shared with many, as it was off the dining room. One has to walk across the landing and across the dining room to get to the half bath. There […] was no mirror in the half bath, and the sink had rocks in it-tried to play off as decorative, but I'm pretty sure they were covering something up. The shower is located on the fourth floor-nice, claw foot tub, two sinks. There was one hairdryer mounted on the wall-made me glad I brought my own-would hate to know someone had to wait because I had to dry my hair. The bedroom itself was nice. The bed was comfy. The room had no overhead light, just lamps. The shades didn't close. There is baby grand piano in the room-with a sign on it stating that you cannot touch it, sit anything on it, etc. - or you would be charged a $4000 fine. With that stipulation, the room felt unwelcoming and that we were intruding. By the way, there was no mention of this stipulation when the reservation was made. The piano took up a lot of space in the room-space that could have been used to put something to hang your clothes in. The breakfast was okay-pretty standard. The staff at breakfast was very friendly. The location--Our first night there, the house was broken into. There was no staff on site when this happened. There was no outright mention of it, I just put two and two together from the sounds I heard that night (yelling, someone trying to come into our room) and comments from the two staff members the next morning. I inquired about it and told them what I had heard. There was a new lock the bedroom door when I returned that evening. We were never asked if we were okay, was anything missing, etc. after the break in. Another thing on the location-you have to walk up a very steep hill from 135th St subway station. After walking over most o Lisez la suite

"NY Renaissance Home - Close to CCNY"
Just a very short walk to City College of New York. The hotels is a very old building (with creaks and tricky door locks) but they offer a spacious room and a very comfortable bed. Broadway is also near by with plenty of places to eat. I didn't see the hotel manager on site a lot, but she was always available by phone, and was very helpful.
Beautiful rooms, great breakfast but we couldn't find anyone to check out with who spoke English. It was kind of weird because we could have stayed in our room over check out time and no one would have known. Otherwise, it was very immaculate and homey. We were overall happy. A little out of the way since it is closer to Harlem. Not a lot of restaurants […] around but some beautiful churches. Lisez la suite
"The New York Renaissance Home"
Really beautiful rooms, I stayed in the Blue room which looks like a room out of some historic rich lord/duke's room at a mansion/palace museum. The hotel is conveniently located 5 minutes from the City College 137th St subway station (train #1). I was there for an interview at the Columbia University hospital and it was 15 minutes door-to-door. It […] had one of the lowest rate for a 1-night stay in NYC at the shortest distance to the hospital. The neighborhood is ok, I would not say it's unsafe, but I would not walk around alone late at night. I also would recommend calling at least a day before arrival so that they will be expecting you. I stood in the front area for half and hour waiting for someone to check me in. I tried calling but only got the voicemail. One of the housestaff happened to be coming in and was surprised to see me. But I want to be clear, that the staff were very friendly always. I left early for my interview and so am unable to comment on the included breakfast. Also, be aware that the bathroom is shared for certain rooms (including the Blue room) and the heating unit in the blue room gets rather noisy at night. Lisez la suite
"Emory suite very spacious, very good for a family"
Felicia was nice enough to upgrade me to the Emory suite when she recognized me as a returning customer. I have enjoyed several of the rooms, but I have to say the Emory suite really is the best. There are two bedrooms and a sitting area, with a private outdoor patio and garden area. I was there before the holidays and the rooms were decked out with […] beautiful extra decorations. The main bedroom in the Emory suite is huge and has a giant warm radiator, wood panelling almost all the way up the walls, fireplace, and table and couchette, and I think the bed is kingsize. The second bedroom has the bathroom, electric fireplace, and two individual beds, and the french doors entering the private garden with table for 6-8 people. There is A/C for the summer, but I was there in the winter. All the beds have down comforters and featherbeds. I'm sure if you call ahead you can get the featherbeds fluffed for you to have maximum comfort. Breakfast was delicious as always. There is very interesting art and historical photos in the hallway. I am not kidding about the size of this suite. I used to live in New York City and had a "floor through" brownstone apartment. We would have been very happy to live in an apartment this size if it had a kitchen. Also, I found a more convenient way to get here that uses the A (or BCD) subway lines and the 145th street station. Walk up 145th to Convent, then down Convent to the street the guesthouse is on. The hills are less than the 137th street 1 train and the neighborhood is more picturesque. Lisez la suite
"A great cheap option"
If you are only interested in a pampering, stop reading now. This place is a little different from your normal chain hotel, but if you want the place where you stay to be something to remember, this could be the one for you. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and the rest of the building matches it. The free breakfast has great choice, and plentiful. […] It is also a good chance to meet some new people. You are only about 5 minutes from three metro lines, so getting into the tourist places is easy. The only downside is the noise of traffic and the odd creaky bit of the house, so be warned if you are a light sleeper. Lisez la suite
"Continues to be a nice experience"
I've stayed here several times on business. It continues to be well run.
"Elegance at The New York Renaissance Home"
We had a wonderful stay at the New York Renaissance Home. While it is a bit far from major sites, the NYRH makes up for it in comfort and elegance. Our room was lushly appointed, quiet, and full of gorgeous antiques. It was much larger than the small rooms we've stayed in before in Manhattan. They provided free snacks and amenities in the room and a […] wonderful, generous breakfast the nice day (fresh berries, salmon quiche, Belgian waffles, Chobani yogurts, fresh juice, coffee, muffins). The kindness and care of the staff and owners was apparent, and we'd happily stay here again. Highly recommended! Lisez la suite
"great value, great night sleep"
Great location for visiting CCNY. Very affordable, especially since a home-made, delicious and generous breakfast is included. The bed was extremely comfortable. B&B decorated with amazing art and antiques. Some rooms have shared bath, as ours did, but we never saw anyone coming or going. The guest house manager/cook was outgoing and helpful--she made […] the stay extra special. Lisez la suite
"Still lovely second time"
This was my second stay and the breakfast was even better, a full catered production. We had the rose room and it was very comfy and full of antiques. There was a featherbed on top of the mattress making it very plush. Convenient and comfortable, and quiet as it is away from the rush of downtown.
"The New York Renaissance Home"
After reading the reviews online I wasn't expecting the hotel to be all that. However I loved the stately feel to the place and the quiet street it was on. Did not however expect to pay a $5 deposit for sundries in the room that I may use. Nonetheless staff were friendly and breakfast was great! I sure needed the work out climbing up to my fourth floor […] room. Lisez la suite
"A well loved home, cozy"
This reminded me of staying with my grandmother when I was in college. Cozy and quiet with a lamp by my bed and trains in the distance. Except my grandmother's house was not so big and had no such valuable and unique antiques. The owners clearly love this house and decorated it carefully, and now share it with visitors. The breakfast was ample and delicious, […] the shower was hot, the shared bathroom big and bright. The decor not only quaint but interesting and the common areas very large and grand. This is definitely a major step up from hostels, etc. The bathroom is so large, I did wonder why they didn't split it to make two, but perhaps because this was renovated to be a private house before conversion to a bed and breakfast, that explains some choices. It seems there are only about 4-5 guests maximum, so it is very quiet. A few things to know before you book: this is really like staying with someone, you need to be respectful of noise and privacy. This is an older house and has the charm and quirks of wooden floors and stairs and noise. As furniture and rugs are antique, they will not have that ikea-fresh feeling. The location is away from downtown, hence the quiet feeling, but near a few cafes and delis. Use the number 1 train or the buses on Amsterdam and Broadway to get here, or else you will have a big hill to walk up. But it is a pleasant hill featuring views of a park, "City College" and the newly relocated historical house of Alexander Hamilton "Hamilton Grange". I used to live in this neighborhood, so perhaps I am nostalgic, but I did like this place. Lisez la suite
"Value for money"
Hyggeligt og rigtig god morgenmad. Søde folk og god betjening. Bad deles med de andre værelser. Det ligger 4 minutter fra metrostation og det tager ca 15 minutter med metro til f.eks. Greenage Village.
"Hyggeligt B&B i Harlem"
