"ça a mal démarré ... puis ça a empiré"
Après qu'un fer à repasser défectueux a souillé ma chemise, à la réception ils ont eu l'audace de me demander de l'amener dans le hall plutôt que d'appeler quelqu'un pour s'en charger ... L'unique mini-savonette n'a pas été remplacée en 3 jours, le 3ème jour c'était ce qu'on appelle de la techno couche mince ... "Belle Claire"
Hotels.com avait noté cet hôtel 3+ étoiles, mais en fait c'était du 1+. La chambre était très propre mais austère, avec sa vieille chaise, sa table, son sol carrelé et sans tapis. La chambre coûtait plus de 2 fois sa valeur réelle. Elle aurait dû coûter dans les 125 à 150 dollars la nuit étant donné son niveau de qualité et de confort. "Bellclaire dans l'Upper West Side de New York"
C'est la 3ème fois que j'y vais et ça a toujours l'air d'être en travaux. Mais c'est presque terminé. Les chambres sont petites mais bien, et les salles de bains super. Mon seul souci (2 en fait) c'est que quelqu'un au 5ème étage a fumé dans sa chambre pendant tout le weekend et qu'à la réception ils n'ont rien fait. My room at the Belleclaire was not large, but it was clean, well maintained, and comfortable. Convenient to the subway system, just off Broadway, and a short walk to Central Park and the west side museums. I didn't need anything during my stay, so I can't comment on the service, although check-in and check-out were both smooth and the desk clerks were […] friendly and polite. "Great location but tiny, noisy rooms"
Although centrally located in the heart of the Upper West Side, the rooms are so tiny that unpacking a bag becomes a problem and opening the bathroom door to use the toilet isn't possible either. For two days our hot water didn't run and we couldn't get the air conditioner to work. The walls are pretty thin so noise from adjacent rooms is annoying. […] The Internet connection, although complimentary, frequently reported "too many connections" so it wasn't possible to use as a reliable business connection. The lobby is spacious and the front desk is friendly but unless location is everything to you, I'd recommend other hotels in the price range for a little more space and reliability of the amenities. "Small room, but comfortable and convenient"
There are only two things I really want to note. First, the service is excellent. The front desk is very polite and understanding of your needs, and the lobby attendants at the front door make you feel welcome. The second, is that the rooms are incredibly tiny. I stayed in a full bed this visit, and I will certainly be coming back to this hotel again, […] but probably booking a king-sized bed. There wasn't a closet, because there wasn't enough room. "Clean, comfortable, but street noise overwhelming."
Staff was nice. My 5th floor king size room was decent size, clean, and had all the usual amenities. My only complaint was the noise level from Broadway. The building is old and has no central air hence the window a/c unit. Despite a wooden box to cover the whole setup, it did not filtering much noise nor a strong cold draft from the window. I lived […] in manhattan for two years and currently live downtown in a different city so used to garbage trucks, buses, and bars closing etc. But this was like sleeping with the window open Would have rate 4 stars if not for this. Nice neighborhood, friendly staff. We had an awesome room! Accessible. Lots of food shops and grocery stores around the area provide convenience. "Budget Option"
After travelling to NYC for business on someone else's dime for two years, this time I was on my own penny - and looking at budget options. I chose Hotel Belleclaire because of the location and OK reviews. Hotel is extremely convenient to Broadway subway line including one-stop express travel to Time Square if needed. Check-in was easy and polite. But […] I admit, when I opened the door to my room I thought "Oh, how the mighty have fallen - sigh." It's not the first room I've stayed in with no carpet (including Weston's low price point, Element, and the Club Quarters) but I always find it off-putting - so "cold." And, the room is 14' by 14" including the bathroom. Yes, small. But, here is the good news...nice, newly renovated bathroom. Clean. Convenient. And two nights for the price of what I used to spend on one night. So, all in all, I give it a three. Worth considering, especially if you want to be on the Upper West Side. A nice, clean room, but the radiator was not turned on and wouldn'[t come on--in February! Unfortunately I immediately went to be and didn't realize there was not heat until the middle of the night, when I didn't want a maintenance person clanging aroundk, as I needed sleep after a long trip. Next day, I inquired at the desk, who advised me to to turn […] up theradiator handle to max. Still no heat, after a long day out of the room. Again, I crawled under the covers and endured the chill, as I was too beat to deal with a late night maintenance visit. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. Di I stay warm under the covers and sleep right away, or make the call and put up with maybe an hour of maintenance worker in my room. However, I would slay there again, because the room was fine otherwise and the clerks were nice and helpful. But I would be sure to check that heat, an hour before I was ready to turn in. "Trapped in a Storm..."
Unable to get back to CT due to the Blizzard Nemo, I opted to stay at Hotel Belleclaire for a night. The people there are lovely. The rooms are clean and nice, and the price was outstanding! Be forewarned, it's an old building and the radiators make some noise. I noticed it the last time I stayed as well. It's not overbearing, but I can sleep through […] most anything. Quick piece of advice, request a room on the side street as opposed to those overlooking Broadway. (again a noise issue) The last time I stayed I had a room with a cute little hall entrance that made the space feel a bit like a Manhattan hideaway. When I go back, I'll request a room like that instead of the more "traditional" layout. No food on site, but there is coffee, tea, and cocoa in the lobby. It's very convenient to the 72nd St. subway, which is an express stop. There are also great markets in the area and a fridge in the room. Found a great winter rate at the Belleclaire Hotel on Hotels.com so I thought I’d check it out. I was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem of a hotel. I frequently travel to NYC for business and have stayed at many of the boutique hotels in Manhattan and Brooklyn, so I have a good basis for comparison. What initially drew me to the Belleclaire […] was location – I love the Upper West Side: great architecture, plenty of great delis and restaurants, a short walk to the subway, and the Beacon Theatre is only block away. Upon my arrival, I was advised that I was upgraded to a larger room which was very nice. The lobby is attractive in an old NYC ambiance sort of way, and the room was very spacious and well appointed, not luxurious as in a 4 or 5 star hotel, but appealing and comfortable. I judge boutique hotels by how comfortable the bed is, including the quality of bedding, and the bathroom – must have a great shower with quality towels. The Belleclaire met the bar on both counts. We were able to check in early so that was a major plus! The room was significantly smaller then photograph, the bathroom was microscopic! This was an old hotel that had been updated but remained old!!! We were miss informed from staff about our check out time, and no liticure in the room reflexed the time. I was very happy with my one night stay at Hotel Belleclaire. The hotel is conveniently located about 1 block from the A train. This provides easy access to going downtown to the big tourist sites or uptown (I was traveling up to NY Presbyterian hospital). ?It is a 5-10 minute walk from Central Park. Lots of restaurants/coffee shops nearby. The hotel […] is in a very old building that adds a certain charm to the stay. While old, it's obviously been renovated and is in great shape. There was some renovation going on (only on the outside front of the hotel). This was no bother. Staff was friendly at check in and check out. Hotel room was very clean. I was cold at first and could not get the register heat to turn out (like I said, old building) and the staff quickly brought me up a plug in room heater for me. We stayed here for two nights in mid-September and the lobby was a mess due to renovation. We found out later that renovation started in January and was supposed to finish in September, but from looking at the progress there is no way that project will finish this year. Hotel was under construction---a total mess. Loud, dirty and uncomfortable. The lack of disclosure by both Hotels.com and Hotel Belleclaire is unconscionable. As a frequent traveler, I will be sure to steer clear of both for now on. BTW...even if this hotel was not under construction, it would be no gem. It is really a narrow halled pre-war apartment […] building converted to a hotel by chopping up existing rooms. My closet was as big as my bathroom and about half the size of the overall tiny room. Things like an old (and loud) in-window air conditioning unit just added to the "my first apartment out of college" charm. At the prices they are charging....Good Luck!
