A staff member from the property contacted me via cell phone 24 hours prior to our check-in to notify us that our reservation was cancelled (reason will keep private per HIPAA) and that we'd receive a full refund.
After multiple voicemail and email messages to the property, the only response from them was to Expedia Customer Service denying any form of refund. Their cancellation policy for no shows is they charge one night's fees - I was still charged for two nights.
Expedia Customer Service response to me was "It is truly understandable that you would like to obtain refund for your hotel reservation. Please note that Expedia is subject to the rules and restrictions of our vendors and we do not have the authority to override their policies. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you."
I've been a loyal Expedia customer for years but if they are going to continue doing business with hotels that operate in this fashion I will now take my business elsewhere.
