The Visby Fängelse hostel is a practical place to stay in Visby, well located just outside of the ferry. The vintage wallpaper and historical decor elements are nice and funny, as well as the experience of sleeping in what used to be a prison.
However, there is almost no staff, only staff at the bar somewhat know what’s happening. There are not enough showers and toilets for the number of guests. Renting sheets and towels is outrageously expensive. The respect of quiet jours (starting at the usual 11pm) for the evening is a myth ; we had to try falling asleep while other guests were partying in the common spaces, which were gross the following morning. We put food in the fridge and one of our yogourts and some fruit mysteriously disappeared.
