Amazing old world charm. Def stay there. Great cocktails and service was very friendly and helpful by everyone. Nice bed. Some rooms may be noisy for some people if you are on the main road. Our room had a plumbing smell in the bathroom..not sure if others do.
Excellent location to stay in Alexandria. Close to everything. Walked to both the Fish Market and the Alexandria Library. Breakfasts were great each morning and the staff was very attentive. Manager and staff all very nice. Enjoyed Montys Bar with entertainment on the first floor. Two women at Concierge were very helpful Nagham and Nesma. It was great also to have the car transport service available at the Cecil Hotel. Rania from the car transport was very helpful in arranging our 3-hour car transport from Cairo to the Cecil Hotel on the evening of our airport arrival. Moustafa was the best driver. We also took a 5-hour tour of the important Alexandria sites with him. The Cecilâs historic significance makes this hotel stay very memorable. Thanks.
Staying here during research on the 61st Highland Anti-Tank Regiment ww2. The building is of particular historical interest to our group being HQ for General Bernard Montgomery during the 1942 Egyptian Campaign. Thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay
We had a very bad experience with this hotel:
1. They claimed the hotel was non-smoking, yet the smell of cigarettes' smoke was everywhere. The security personnel were smoking openly in the lobby. Our room was next to an "office" and the employees were smoking all the time. The rooms also smelled cigarette smoke.
2. The hotel operates a very noisy disco that was still thudding at 3:30AM.
3. The windows in the room were not sealed properly. We felt we were on the street, with the street noise and the smell of car exhaust very vivid in the room.
4. The hot water shower took a bit to warm up, and then was constantly changed between cold and very hot all the time, practically making the shower unusable.
5. The cleaning personnel were very unprofessional. They loudly fought with one another.
Overall, this was a very poor experience. This is a dilapidated hotel that was renovated on the cheap. Yes, the location is great and the hotel has history. But this is where it really stops. You are better off staying elsewhere.
First of all, this is an old and very historic hotel. Do not expect all mod-cons! That said, staff were amazing, friendly, helpful and couldnât do enough to please. Our room was large and overlooked the Corniche so was noisy until about 2am (as expected!) but compensated for by the view, the proximity to old downtown, amazing cafes and restaurants nearby. Montyâs bar very âold Englishâ with live music after 9pm. Good food and drinks, attentive staff. But itâs smoking - and Egyptian cigarette smoke clings and lingers!
Itâs a great location! You can walk anywhere and you have lots of options for restaurants. The staff were so nice and friendly! Spatially our house keeping lady Samia.
