I arrived and was the only guest in the hotel. The man who greeted me was very nice. We watched Payback with mel Gibson and had a discussion before he let me in the kitchen to make my own food as I arrived at midnight and the kitchen was closed (I washed my hands very well). I felt at home! first time that ever happened.
I already wrote a review about how rude the owner is, so I wonât repeat. This âhotelâ is tired and remote. It isnât quaint and itâs not a good representation of how charming Ireland can be. No bar (wish I had taken a photo), no restaurant, the beds are old and not particularly comfortable, the comforter was way too warm for the lovely summer weather on offer.
Not particularly eco friendly as body wash and shampoo was in small plastic bottles.
I couldnât be paid to go back!
The Ardgort House is a delightful step back in history - a lovely manor home with modern conveniences. Our host, John, maintains the property inside and out with care - from the fountain out front to the cleanliness of the rooms.
The inn is a walkable distance from the village of Castlederg which has all the basic necessities. (Evening dining options are limited, and the Ardgort House Bar and Restaurant are not currently in operation.)
John provides a warm fire in the woodstove in the evenings and is a delightful conversationalist. In the mornings, he prepares and serves a delicious full Irish breakfast or variations on it as requested by the lodger per breakfast menu the evening before.
We would gladly stay here again.
Clean & very comfortable.
Just a quick overnight, booked based on other reviews. Did not disappoint, would book again when in the area.
Host friendly & very helpful
Lovely host, nothing too much trouble; spotlessly clean property, lovely breakfast - and a couple of little extra acts of kindness that were greatly appreciated, thank you!
John was a wonderful host and our room was fabulous. We has a balcony with table and chairs and a super comfortable bed. Coffee and tea in room, good TV, wifi. There is a nice size bar on the main level but we did not visit.
The property compares almost to a grand hotel in its splendor, just not so big. We liked the location because we visited off the beaten tourist track towns in Ireland.
The town of Castlederg is undergoing some public square renovations and the dining choices were a bit limited. We had a nice meal at El Greco.
Big, well-maintained property and driveway. Easy to park. Easy to find on google. Peaceful. The one gentleman who greeted us was wonderfully friendly and helpful.
If youâre looking for modern, hi- tech and gourmet food donât go. If youâre looking for friendly, traditional and original itâs a great place. Nice location, big well equipped rooms and just the best hospitality, memories and laughs with owner John.
We stayed on our way to Lusty Beg Island snd it was ideal with an interesting straight and âroller coaster roadâ down to the lakes.
A place to make a memory or few.
My partner and I stayed for just one night and met John, our host, on arrival. John was an absolute gentleman and made every effort to accommodate us. The room was perfect, spacious, with an adjoining terrace that had gorgeous views of the local countryside. Breakfast the next day was, as everything else, impeccable! Overall a very welcoming and relaxing experience and we would highly recommend Ardgort House to anyone travelling in this area!
very friendly service, even if the owner didn't seem to expect us. Huge property with plenty of parking spaces, comfortable, clean and big bed- and bathroom. The house and signpost does need some TLC on the outside though
This is a charming and cozy B&B. The bed was a little low and we couldnât get the TV to work but we were tired anyway. This was a one night stop on our way around Ireland and it suited us just fine.
