We would have preferred a double bed instead of two single beds and better shampoos and shower gel but other than that everything was adequate to our needs. The manager was very polite and helpful and spoke good English.
The hotel bathroom was disappointing, The place appeared to be more of a two star hotel than 3 star place. The pillow sheets were stained. The manager and staff were helpful and tried to make our stay as enjoyable as possible but we just expected a nicer hotel. Hotel location was good in that we could walk to all the sites.
Phil's are not ready to live up to their listing. The air conditioning is only in the bedroom of the suite. Daily housekeeping is offered only if it is requested, and even then soap and towels had to be asked for, the bed was left unmade, floors were not cleaned ( a dead cockroach remained on the bathroom floor for 3 days! ), and trash bins were seldom emptied.
The shower did not work properly and was repaired rather poorly. Complimentary water was difficult to obtain and we were actually asked to pay for it the first morning.
The cleaning boys left the key to our room in the door for a full day.
Premium bedding was quite tired and worn.
Wifi was inconsistent.
The "free newspaper" was never supplied.
The "balcony with city view" overlooks a tin roof and patio of a next door residence.
And we were constantly told that we were the only guests who had any concerns. All we wanted was what their listing stated when we made the booking. Phil's ended up being a frustrating stay.
I had the misfortune to stay at Phil's Residency(should be lodging). No wi-fi a few times the wi-fi registered on my iphone. No room cleaning for a week-on enquiry was told that I had the room key.No restaurant any where near. The two Bihari children employed by management brings plastic bags with food.To top it off the night manager Augustine was not able to swipe my credit card.I had to do it for him.The day Manager Ravi Menon tries to talk glibly and explain away lack of amenities. They charge Rs.5000 for this.I got 2 plates,2 buckets, 2 spoons as amenities and a few strip sachets of shampoo and sample soaps.Whew what a mistake.
Narrow road in front of property.Phone lines are working only as intercom -you got to go to the loby to make outside calls
Me and 2 freinds had a brilliant stay at Phil's the staff were great and helped with everything we asked for friendly and spacious. Would recommend highly.
We enjoyed our one night stay at Phils. The staff were very welcoming and the location was good. The appartment was spacious for the price. The only way this place could improve is to just clean things up around the edges really. For example, there were a few scuff marks on the walls and there was no headboard for the beds. But these are small things. Overall, this is a great bet for Fort Cochin.
Great little homestay in Fort Kochi. Mr Ravi, the manger, and his staff were most helpful. Walking distance to all the major sites. Great overall experience.
