I arrived solo at I Keu Ken Hostel on my first night in Argentina/Patagonia. Met great people there to hang out with. I was only there one night and it was definitely nice to arrive at a friendly hostel. The woman at the check-in desk (I forgot her name but she was from Costa Rica) was a gem. So nice, funny, and welcoming. She also made a dinner reservation for us at her friend's restaurant. He makes meals for local in his home! It was such a beautiful experience.
I spent several days at I Keu Ken, mostly because I was waiting to receive a money transfer. El Calafate is a nice enough town, but unless you have outings scheduled, it isn't worthy of more than a couple of days. In spite of that, I have great memories, because the staff at the hostel made me feel super welcome, and the hostel has plenty of places to hang out and read, relax, and/or visit with other travelers. It has a sort of hippie vibe. It isn't as modernized as some hostels - not a lot of electrical outlets (but enough) and fairly small rooms - but those issues are far overshadowed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. I highly recommend spending some time there.
This hostel has a great location overlooking the town, yet still less than 10 min walk in to the centre. It's very peaceful. The garden and deck are great places to sit and relax and watch the huge Patagonian sky and nearly as large largo Argentino. The room is nothing fancy, but clean and quite. The shared bathroom is also clean. I'd definitely stay here again!
