I arrived early afternoon and was checked in immediately. I had forgotten to load my South Africa map on to my TomTom GPS before leaving the UK and the lady of the house helped me do this on her own computer for which I will be eternally grateful. room was nice with balcony with table and chairs and river view. Bathroom had a tub - wonderful- and there were plenty of electrical points to charge phone etc. I walked to the nearby Quay Street at dusk to the recommended brew pub where I had a couple of craft beers and a tasty meal of calamari with chorizo as a starter and huge lamb shank as a main. Both accommodation and restaurant highly recommended. After the meal I walked back and, apart from the bottom of the hill, the short journey was well lit and I didn't feel threatened at all.
The hostess Pat was very helpful and accommodating and went out of her way to assist with every query we had regarding local Restaurant recommendations etc.. A comfortable place to stay if only looking for a place to sleep but amenities such as WIFI did not work very well and some maintenance required; ie broken tiles on staircase etc..
Pat and Des were excellent hosts and very helpful to the project that brought me to Port Alfred. I would definitely stay with them again! Great location and views, too.
The owners drove out and helped us change our flat tire when we were driving to the hotel and we told that we were going to be late checking in. That is beyond the best service that I have ever had at any hotel.
Pat and Des were most welcoming and we really enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable bedroom with a view over the water and wonderful breakfast. Will definitely stay again should we go to Port Alfred.
