I booked an overnight stay by myself as a rare getaway to see an exhibit at the museum and have some quiet time. The hotel was OK, but there were several things that were disappointing. First, the ice machine on my floor was broken so I had to go to a different floor in my pajamas to get ice. Second, the refrigerator did not work. I could hear it humming, but it did not keep my items cold, and I ended up having to throw away my leftovers from dinner. The drinking glasses were chipped around the rims, and the coffee maker was full of spent coffee pods. More care could have been taken in the cleanliness of my room. The rug was extremely dirty looking. While my bed was very comfortable, it was extremely loud and squeaky every time I moved a muscle!
I slept in a bit, since it's so rare not needing to rush. I knew I had credits for breakfast, so I headed down there after packing up my stuff to leave. I got there about 20 minutes before breakfast was to end, and I asked the person at the front desk if breakfast was still on. They said it was definitely worth a try, it should be on until 11. However, it was pretty obvious that the person who took my order and the person who was cooking were not happy at all to have to serve me at that time. They were clearly ready to leave. I was left feeling a bit unwelcome especially, when I heard the cook say, "this is the last one!"
Despite making me feel bad about being there, I tipped them well, thinking that might help.
