Checkin was very friendly and helpful. Photos a bit misleading as kitchen area is shared between three rooms. Bathroom was pretty cold (studio room) and shower cubicle cosy/small with a general musty smell. Bed was comfortable but location on the main road meant itâs a noisy night if youâre a light sleeper. Continental breakfast was lovely with lots of choice.
Very good value. Was less than half the price of most other options in and around Bristol and the rooms are fine, the property is interesting and everything was very simple. Owner was very helpful and lovely.
Really enjoyed our short stay here. Lovely room with an adjoining small room with writing table and chair. It does have about six wooden stairs inside the bedroom door which would not be suitable for some. The choice of breakfast items was really good many different cereals, cheeses ham and fruit. Owner very nice.
Rather a quirky place on the edge of Bristol. There is a bus stop right outside, very convenient, took about 40 minutes into city centre so no parking to worry about. Our room was rather dark with heavy wood and colour scheme, but well enough equipped, although there was a considerable amount of traffic noise. Tiny shower and diy breakfast (plenty of it). The owner was away but the gentleman who welcomed us was very friendly and chatty. This was not a luxury stay but fine for a stopover.
Great welcome from Andy and the owner but no getting around the fact this is an old facility that while not atypical of UK B&B is sadly way behind what one expects in other countries. Heating coming on only for a short time morning and evening and an old creaky bed (described as King but UK King is actually a small Queen) very very busy road and extremely old small shower. Great little breakfast area but doesnât make up for a not great sleeping experience.
Arrived when it was dark and raining no lights on the court yards very dangerous trying to go up the steps.
Room was not as clean as we would of liked
The bathroom doors were glass and see through ok for families but not friends.
Shower a few hairs in the tray.
The bedside wall light full of dust.
Breakfast was do it yourself, all in the fridge opened packets of cheese and meat ( one was out of date) how many people had handled the meat and cheese.
All in all not an enjoyable stay
Beautiful B&B, extremely comfortable beds, the owners were very friendly and even left a bottle of Prosecco for us as it was our wedding anniversary. Overall a lovely nights stay and would definitely recommend.
This was my second visit to The Old Star. A fantastic little B&B that was perfect for my trip to Bristol. Really friendly hosts, perfect location and a lovely room.
