Visit a former spiritual centre of Minoan culture
- Aventure
- Couples
- Histoire
Rineia Island is an offshore paradise offering sun, sand, spectacular sunsets and natural beauty that’s sparsely visited and is a hidden gem of the Mykonos region. 7,000 years ago, this island was populated at a time when its neighbouring island of Delos was a Minoan spiritual centre. Rineia was dedicated to Apollo around 530 BCE, and later the 2 islands were connected by a rocky walking passage called the Big Rematiaris and Little Rematiaris. Here you can find the ruins of an ancient Greek temple juxtaposed with the ruins of a 20th-century Christian church.
Whether you’re in it for scenic shorelines or historic ruins and spiritual legacy, Rineia Island has it. It’s accessible by ferry off the western coast.
