We online booked a family suite for 4 person (2 Adults 2 children). Room allocation to us was very small to accommodate and charges for the room was also double.
The hotel itself is attractive and well appointed Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Coffee/bakery is fantastic. The setting is in a congested section of the Darjeeling bazaar without on site parking making arrival and departure complicated. We enjoyed our stay.
The service at this hotel is a disaster. When booking a tour to go to Tiger Hill to watch the sunrise, we were told to wait in the street, down the hotel 3 minutes walking, from 0300 to 0400 to wait for the driver in very cold temperatures. We were later given different information. After booking the car to take us to the railway station, there was no note in the system about the booking or the payment. This was sorted out however at thst time of departure we called the driver who informed us he was never informed of the departure time. They did provide a heater in the room as there is no heat in the hotel and we were there mid December. Room was large. The restaurant is horrible, wouldnt recommend. Bad food, cant pay by card as machine doesnt work. Cant pay by cash as no change. Staff are completely not trained and for this reason i would not recommend. As full time travellers, we appreciate helpful staff and unfortuntely there werent any at this hotel with tge exception of the night desk clerk. Very nice young man.
Our stay at Sumitel was great. The staff was extremely friendly and took care of all of our requests in a timely manner, even when we ordered our dinner late, they accommodated us. We could see Kanchunjangha from our room, which was an added bonus. The front desk attendants and the night manager was also very friendly, including the kitchen staff Pranesh, Lakpa and Sovana. The only room for improvement I would suggest is Wifi, which was extremely slow. Otherwise a great stay.
