It's perhaps best known for its Friday Night Jump Up street party that goes on every week. Rum shops dot the streets, as do local barbecue joints, bars, and pubs. Derek Walcott Square in town is marked by a gigantic 400-year-old Samaan tree. It's all located along the island's northwest coast.
The town hosts 2 bazaar-type markets. The first is the Castries Central Market, which offers a farmers market experience and is a century old. Across the street is the Craft Market that is huddled under a big red roof. Both get crowded and vibrant on Saturday mornings.
