Terrible. When we went to check in at Pine Needles were we reserved and they said we were moved to Mid-Pines a more rundown sister property. We know both properties and specifically wanted PN. Still l moved us. Musty smell. Heat was so bad that my wife had to sleep with her sweater on. Took 45 minutes for the staff to bring a blanket. Donât stay there. When shared our experience at check out no so much as âIâm sorry â. Seriously avoid this experience.
I THOUGHT I was booked at this property, but was actually booked at Mid-Pines by Hotels.com. So, I can't give a review of Pine Needles accommodations. BUT, the golf facility and staff I met there was spectacular.
So be careful of the bait and switch; they may put you in the Mid Pines Hotel which is across the street - not in the Pine Valley Inn where the pictures are. I did notice that on the reservation it buries the fact that it is Mid Pines - but my overall record says Pine Needles. We in fact drive to Pine Needles. Mid Pines is an old hotel that we did get an updated room but is much different that what is listed. And the unfortunate part of using Hotels.com I couldn't get a refund so we were stuck. We enjoyed the golf and would recommend playing on both courses! And we loved the golf staff. But as a hotel it's just disappointing all the way around. I rarely write a negative review - but they should just do a site that says Mid Pines Hotel and cross reference each other. I could have stayed at the Marriott down the street for much less and enjoyed the golf. There was no benefit to stay at the hotel and golf.
This was a great experience in every respect EXCEPT for the noisy AC unit which made sleep almost impossible. What a shame, because we loved everything else. .
So many unfortunate things happened. Firstly they couldnât find my reservation. Then the toilet was nasty. The room smelled old and stinky and we found someoneâs golf ball they left behind. Our big screen TV didnât work and to top it off, a big huge water bug came charging out like âhey what are you doing hereâ the dead one stayed still! But on the great side, The staff was awesome! And the food was great. Yes we ate there before we saw the bugs! We left at 4:30 in the morning of our first night when the bug came charging!
We booked at the Pine Needles Lodge, but upon arrival they bumped us to their sister hotel across the street (Mid Pines) for no apparent reason. Mid Pines is run down and in need of a lot of TLC. We do not recommend staying there.
I love PN but it is showing itâs age. If you can accept a quaint, rustic experience with creaking floors, tiny bathrooms and hearing everything from neighboring rooms, its for you. The convenience, food, golf and southern hospitality are top shelf.
Cute. Front desk person was the only person I interacted with, super nice. Room is clean and very bed & breakfast-y looking. Definitely not a traditional hotel. Interesting set up, with different units. Close to down town Southern Pines and the SP Greenway (starting at Reservoir Lake). Stayed here before heading down to Laurinburg.

Very warm and inviting but needs some TLC and updating.
We arrived in the dark and not asked if we had trouble finding them, how was our trip, glad your here..nothing. They have a series of buildings and we were offered a map vs. valet or bellman. Then the room. Wow! they are small, old.
It is NOT quaint - just outdated. The room was poorly lit as was the parking lot. There was a musty smell. There was a box TV. As I said it was late, we decided to live with it for one night and cancel the second night. Then I stepped on the floor near the right-side of the bed and my socks were soaked. The small refrigerator, sitting directly on the carpet apparently was leaking(or so I thought). Then I felt wet on the bottom of the bedspread(not touching the floor) Now we knew the source of the musty smell. So at 10:30 we moved to another room in a neighboring building. the bathrooms are tiny with a pedestal sink and a 4 inch by one yard ledge to do what you need to in the bathroom. The shower curtain brushes the side of the toilet when closed. We will never be back and this has made us suspect of Expedia's ratings as well as Trip Advisors. The only think folks can like about this place is the location if you are a golfer.. "C'mon Man"....
