Chatuchak weekend market is the ultimate shopping destination in Bangkok, and every Saturday and Sunday tens of thousands of people come to hunt for bargains at one of the 15,000 stalls, or simply soak up the busy and exciting atmosphere. Getting to the market is easy, either via BTS getting off at Mo Chit, or using the MRT and getting off at either Kamphaeng Phet or Chatuchak Park station.

For cool clothing, we recommend getting off at Kamphaeng Phet. Although there are numbers to help you locate particular stalls, there's no definitive list of the shops at Chatuchak weekend market. It’s part of the ‘JJ Market’ experience to get a little lost among the strange and wonderful stalls, but if you would like a more definitive overview of Chatuchak, pick up a map, which at least gives an idea of what is where. We have picked 5 of our favourite shops at Chatuchak weekend market that we think are worth checking out.

This is one of the few shops at the Chatuchak weekend market that's air-conditioned, but that isn’t what draws the crowds. Thanks to some savvy designing, the collection at Kinnaree is suitable for every lady. Selling smart dresses, skirts, trousers and tops in a range of beautiful colours, from pale aquamarine to candy pink, the shop practically guarantees you'll find something special.

The silk is some of the finest you can find at the weekend market, and whether you're looking for a simple top or a wrap dress with flower detailing, there are plenty of options. Prices start at just under 1,000 baht, to over 5,000 baht if you want something that's made to measure. Kinnaree also stocks a range of jewellery that complements their clothing selection.

    Guate Leather

This colourful leather goods store has some funky Paul Smith-inspired stripes on the shop façade that catch your eye, but not quite as much as the stunning leather handbags that hang from the ceiling.

The quality of the leather and craftsmanship is amazing, but Guate also only releases bags in a limited run, so you're unlikely to spot anyone else with the same bag, especially as they come in a rainbow of colours. The bags range in size from small shoulder clutches to roomy shoppers. There's also a range of wallets, purses, keychains and rucksacks available.

We adore the selection of great value jewellery that is on sale at Backyard Jewellery in the Chatuchak market. It’s playful, cute and slightly quirky. The collection has shades of Alice in Wonderland, with cute Cheshire Cat earrings, White Rabbit pendants and red rose earrings.

As well as plenty of cute things, Backyard Jewellery’s Chatuchak shop also has some more modern pieces for sophisticated night-time looks, chunky rings with encrusted pearls and a beehive pendant with black and white stripes. Prices are excellent, with costume jewellery prices starting at only 300 baht and cool little T-shirts starting at only 150 baht.

For edgy men’s and women’s clothing, head to Masque & 17:09, which is a wooden-fronted boutique in section 3 of Chatuchak Weekend Market. The collection focuses on casual wear, with racks of patterned shirts, shorts and a small selection of natty trilbies for the guys and T-shirt dresses, blouses and boyfriend jeans for the girls.

Top picks include a paint-dipped T-shirt at 280 baht, a short polka dot dress at 550 baht and a canvas shopper that has an old Vogue sketch printed on both sides for 580 baht. One of the greatest things about Chatuchak Weekend Market is the chance to discover up-and-coming labels and designers. Masque and 17:09 really encompass this by offering original fashion for both men and women.
