Hotel feels like a prison with its metal gates and metal doors on lobby and all rooms.
Room was clean; staff, polite (if often nervous).
Terrible neighborhood, one of two "worst areas" I've stayed in, and I've lived in a few Bay Area neighborhoods suffering from "urban blight." Only one open restaurant in a three-block area. A discount grocery store (on Del Paso Blvd.) is six blocks away from hotel.
FOUR people, in two hours, without me prompting them, advised: "Don't walk around here more than you have to, and especially not at night." Spend extra money and stay in a better area. . . avoid what my Sacramento-familiar friend called "The Stroll."
